Marvel's "Fear" Event - Part 1

yeah I do too Kang. Thing tho like it's been pointed out, how can the midgard Serpant be Odin's bro if it's loki's child?
I mean unless they say this whole thing was some screwed up time line and not at all real I could live with the story.

That part is problematic...I guess I just like the idea of Odin having this all-powerful brother that he screwed over.

Just blame Fraction! Fear could've been soo much better but Fraction doesn't get Thor or his Mythos so it falls way short!

Actually Fraction does get Thor. His Ages of Thunder one shots were excellent. Secret Invasion: Thor was pretty good. And the Mighty Thor has been pretty good as well. The major blemishes with Fraction's track record with Thor are his initial arc on Thor and Fear Itself.

No, Fraction absolutely does not get Thor. His Ages of Thunder one-shots were excellent because those were alternate versions of Thor and the Asgardians, so it was fine if they were all grunting, arrogant, short-tempered cavemen. That he's consistently characterizing their modern-day 616 incarnations the same is a major failure to grasp the root of Thor's appeal--that he overcomes his past arrogance to become a true hero. Hell, Fraction's admitted in interviews that he doesn't get Thor.

Given that Thor always found ways around dying in his fights with the Midgard Serpent, I guess the idea is that the Serpent was the true serpent Thor was supposed to kill and then die from, according to the prophecy. The Midgard Serpent was just a red herring.

Secret Invasion: Thor and the Mighty Thor have been pretty damn good which are set in the 616 universe.

IMO he doesn't. Thor bringing back Loki after he was responsible for a huge amount of Asgardian deaths doesn't make sense! Besides the events in Siege Loki was also responsible for Doom turning a number of Asgardians into DoomBots.

Also IMO Odin returning wasn't handled well!

Killing royalty is a big no-no among the Asgardians. Thor killed Loki himself one time and got exiled right the f*** out of reality by Odin for it.

Secret Invasion: Thor was f***ing horrendous and The Mighty Thor has been decent in spite of Thor's characterization because Fraction padded it out with lots of fights and the Silver Surfer and Galactus being unbelievably awesome.

I've been enjoying The Mighty Thor. I thought having Asgard go to war with Galactus was tremendous fun.

It's funny how the longer the Surfer goes without his own ongoing, the more he comes to resemble his old status quo. First they made him Galactus' herald again, now he disobeys Galactus and gets stranded on Earth again.

Comic rule 73: If character doesnt appear in a monthly book you can do as you'd like with them....this rule is stipulated by Bendis Rule 1(the only one): Do what ever you want.

Did anyone mark out a bit when Cap smack talked Odin?

Having picked it up yet, but was wondering something. I read that Thor uses the Odin Sword which has a new name on the Serpent. Why does it get a new name all of a sudden and I thought it was destroyed in the fight with the Celestials.

It's called "Ragnarok" in Fear Itself. As for its return, well, the Asgardians are clearly good at bringing stuff back. Note how all of the Asgardians themselves are back after being destroyed at various points. ;)

Good point. If you have read it, is it explained how the sword comes back?

Odin was cleaning out his attic, and the damn thing was just sittin' there.

It's not explained. It's just there. Thor or Odin probably recreated it when they brought the Asgardians or Asgard itself back, respectively.
