Marvel's "Fear" Event - Part 1

I loved Siege until moraldeficiency pointed out to me that the heroes didn't really do s***. The Green Goblin exposes himself as a crazy person and then Bob Reynolds defeats the Void. Still, it was fairly exciting for its first 3 issues.

As for Valkyrie, I'm willing to wait and see. Hopefully Cullen Bunn's awesomeness will trump Fraction's suckage and Yost's hit-or-missness. Valkyrie and Sin racing to collect all of the Worthy's hammers is still an interesting premise, at the very least.

Newsarama has teases for the Fearless:
"1. The fate of the Asgardian hammers seen in Fear Itself – REVEALED!
2. A thrilling, yet desperate search for power across all the hidden corners of the Marvel Universe.
3. Valkyrie becomes the Marvel Universe's most wanted fugitive, hunted by all the world's super heroes.
4. Regaining her memories, Sin has the knowledge to activate the Serpent Doomsday Device.
5. Guest stars Galore: Avengers, Secret Avengers, the X-Men, Namor, the FF, Luke Cage and the Thunderbolts.
6. Fallen Son Rematch: Wolverine vs. Crossbones Round Two!
7. No hero leaves unscathed, including dramatic changes for Valkyrie as a result!"

Siege was exciting. I really liked Siege. The 616 universe had a lot to be excited for. Until Fear Itself put it to a grinding halt in one big gigantic pile of meh.

I agree totally.

On a side note, I also think Marvel missed the boat on a Sharon/Hill/Hand mini.

He's referring to the posters @ Newsarama I'm sure. Their posters obviously have no taste.

Look how cool we are...we broke Captain America's shield

You know the suggestion some have made about the Serpent being Villi or Ve? Is it possible he is supposed to be some kind of amalgamation of these two, plus the Midgard serpent Jormungand? I mean, the final battle of the Serpent is apparently to end in Thor's death as well, as goes the tale of Thor's slaying of the serpent then walking a few steps before dying from it's poison. And why call him the serpent if he has nothing to do with the great damn thing that wraps itself around Midgard and is a crucial part of Ragnarok?

I don't actually mind that too much. Thor's fought the Midgard Serpent like 3 times in Marvel continuity for quasi-Ragnaroks. At least this time it's something novel. Not good but, y'know, novel.

Bleh, can Fraction just be done with Thor now, please? :csad:

You really should open your mind and read Hickman's Ultimates and Thor for something awesome, but man i know i can't get you open your heart for it.

LOL! *chuckle* Thanks, I needed that! After reading Mighty Thor #6 last week, and promptly bagging the thing for posterity, likely never to be read again (though I haven't ruled out having it framed, as a sample of terrific cover art entirely misrepresenting the contents of the book) my immediate thought was "OK, we can be done now."

After six months of hoping that by the end of that story we might have any kind of reasonable "story" explanation for the BS going on in terms of Thor and every other legacy character in the book with the exception of Volstagg...what we got so empties me of interest in any of them, that I can't now say I'm looking forward to FI #7 as anything beyond another opportunity to say done.

EDIT: Just spotted

I've been catching up with the Ultimates' Thor as an antidote to Fraction's, and have to say...he may be a nut, but at least he's likeable.

Hickman has a great understanding at Asgardians as a whole in the end.

Not to mention how can anyone resist a Bear who loves Beer?

Ultimate Thor is not likable. No Ultimate character is likable, except for Peter Parker. who's dead.

Compared to the caveman who's been running around Mighty Thor the past 6 months, :woot: for me he is likeable. Reminds me of a lot of rowdy northerners I've known...

Preview of Fear Itself #7

Finally, the end! (Until the decimal issues after it, of course.)

I wonder if Cap will pick up Mjolnir again. Seems like a massive insult if he's not counted amongst the Mighty.

A fan comments on his perception that some of the dialogue in Fear Itself read off to him, such as Thor and Cap cursing. Fraction said that characters change as they evolve, and each writer brings their own spin. "My grandfather fought in World War II," Brevoort added. "I guarantee you, when he was out storming the beaches of Normandy, he was cursing a blue streak."

It's not the cursing that's the problem, it's how they act as well. Fraction is so f***king disconnected it's not even funny.
