Mattchew's Fanart Thread...

So I am <finally> finished with my April entry.

The theme is to recreate a character in a different era, so after many idea about this wonderfully broad theme, I decided to do 'Catwoman BC'...

CatwomanBC.jpg

I was kinda going for less 'Flintstones' and more Jungle Queen from 'The Maxx', a character that I think has a lot of strength and mystery, like Catwoman.

I played around a lot with the color and background on this one so comments on the color (not the shading, but rather the pallette) would be appreciated.

Regardless, let me know what you think!

That's a great entry Matt. Lovin the warm colors backed by the sunset. It adds a lot of atmosphere.

Here's my entry for July's contest where the idea was to do a take on an iconic moment from a movie or comic...

Great stuff!!
I think what stands out the most in your art are the coloring schemes. I really appreciate the people here who draw more like a "Sunday funnies" style (e.g. Calvin & Hobbes) rather than traditional muscled out comics. It's a lost form.

The catwoman rocks!

Thanks!

Well, I have to admit, my 'style' is a function of the limits in my ability, but I'm more than happy you like it! Thanks for the kind words.

Awesome! LOVE IT. The colours are great, nice variations but a good overall pallet.

Thanks!

So my little bro wanted me to make a stupid pic of a guy rapping for something he was doing...

I sketched this in pencil, the used a felt-tipped pen on it, and then took a pic of it with a digital cam...

I'm sending him this pic to see if it was kinda what he was thinking of, so I'm not sure if this is the version I'll move forward with, but thought I'd post this first attempt anyway since I'm gonna try in do more progress updates in the future.

I censored the one hand cause he's giving the finger.
Click below, but only if you are hardcore.... the depiction of an extended middle finger has been known to evaporate souls.

Thanks, Le Diable Blanc!

Apparently my little brother agrees with you, cause he's happy with the design and gave me the go ahead...

I redid the sketch in Photoshop, so now I just have the black done:

If you're a fan of the f-word and the many ways of conveying it, click below to see the uncensored version.

For some reason I like the black edge in the first one.

Yeah, I agree. I was always gonna put it back in. Anyway, here's the next step...

mob_step1_censored.jpg

Quick question: Would it be better to just shade the guy and keep him B&W or should I do it in color, but in just really muted tones? I'm not sure I really have an opinion, so what do you all think?

Uncensored finger below...

So...

After working this in color and then converting it to B&W, I realized i didn't keep enough true white to take really achieve what it should have been in black and white, so I decided to go with the desaturated version, rather than fiddle with it forever.

Here's a final version, of the guy, with a few alterations of the pic to come...

As always (when I include horrible vulgar gestures in my pics), unensored version below...

Another good piece. I think you should stick with the color versions only because I feel it's one of your biggest talents. You have a knack for finding a striking balance. But don't listen to my opinion, I'm still drawing stick figures. :woot:

Here's the final version...

It's supposed to be album art for an 'album' of 'rap music' my little brother is making... don't ask.

Anyway, here's the final version:

click below for the hardcore, downright evil version...

Thunbs up, it's totally believable (although I probably wouldn't buy that album :oldrazz:)

So here's a new pic I'm starting to working on...

Thus far, I've just done a bit of sketching... It's gonna be a pic of Cyc, Rouge, and Iceman taking on Juggernaut.

jugger_01.jpg

I plan to flush out the background to include more of Iceman's trail, and think Cyc will be positioned a bit differently to sell the idea he just received an uppercut, and there's probably gonna be a TBD injured X-men on the ground under Cyc, but this is the general idea.

Thoughts? Thanks!
