Matthew Vaughn off Thor

It has to be someone who can do with THOR what Favreau did with IM. I dont think Letterier will do that good with HULK. It will be a little above mediocre, but that's because of Norton.

THOR needs a heavyweight. Not a nobody action-director.

Vaughn's career seems to be taking weird turns these days. If he wasn't such an ******* about other people's movies I might care.

we'll see.. hopefully there will be an official announcement soon..

I am sure we will hear somemore about Vaughn and a new director since the announcement of Marvel Movies coming.

I'd love for Peter Jackson to direct Thor, but I don't want him to tread the same water. He would have to seperate the two worlds somehow. Pre-Elektra Rob Bowman would've been awesome. I loved ROF, it has the only great Matthew McConehey performance I've ever seen. But Elektra was so bad, I lost all confidence in him as a director.

Vaughn isn't necessarily unreliable at all. Layer Cake and Stardust were both good, solid movies. Though I agree with X-maniac's general assessment of Stardust. He directed both of those along with producing Lock Stock and Snatch.

We still aren't totally clear on why he left X-men 3.

However, this is not the first time this happened. Many directors have been attached to movies but then they eventually leave if nothing is happening. Look at Cassavettes with Iron Man which turned out good for ALL OF US.

Also, want to give big time credit for X-maniac. I knew I forgot to mention that he already was talking about this in his blog BEFORE Hollywood Reporter. X-maniac totally called this.

You should all read X-maniac's blog as well. It is very good stuff. I think he makes a good point that Vaughn more than likely wants to stay away from bigger budget material now and stick with lower budget, darker, edgier stuff.

Del Toro is the obvious choice for Thor (and the best, period). Too bad he's tied up in The Hobbit now.

Hmh. I'm kinda sad now. I was really hyped for him. I guess Marvel ain't gonna renew his deal 'cause his script was too expensive. Just don't get The Rat to replace him. :|

According to the article, they are sticking with the script. Chances are, Marvel can afford it after all the receipts for Iron Man comes in.

I'm thinking when the dust settles Vaughn will still do Thor and I'm also as positive as Magic Johnson that Marvel will get Spielberg for Cap. His name has been associated with Cap for so long, I just can't see Marvel not getting him. Still......Favreau seems to get it. I've said I want him to direct the Avengers and if there's a guy who I have confidence in directing any Marvel movie its this guy! He's very versatile and I think IM will push him up a notch as one of the most in demand directors in Hollywood.

Sorry, Docker but never in a million years.

Spielberg will never do Captain America. And honestly, I don't think he should. Especially after Munich.

ah this sucks. I was really looking forward to this. I really loved Layer Cake and Stardust too.

It happens, this is the nature of the business. Think about it this way. If Cassavettes and New Line's deal with New Line didn't expire we would never have gotten Favreau to do the Iron Man movie we like so much today.

I'm a pessimist so I look at it this way: If Vaughn and Fox woulda came to an agreement, we wouldv'e gotten a solid X3 film and not that Ratner debacle.

I dunno. He left X-men 3 for whatever reason and then turned around and talked about how he would've made a better film than Ratner. After he says wasn't being given the time to make sure the movie would be good etc. etc.

I'll be honest. I think Matthew Vaughn would've made a much better X3. However, I'm not too impressed by his work on Layer Cake or Stardust, a movie that chud.com tried so hard to hype up.

If Spielberg does Cap he'll cast Tom Hanks as Steve and Shia LaBeouf as Bucky.

they should get Steve to do it; he can probably insist that the entire film be in WWII instead of shoehorning the time-travel angle..

He's really off? He seemed to click with the writer, and Marvel said they were happy with the screenplay. Hopefully the next director is revealed soon.

There's just no guarantee of that, no proof it would have happened at all. Fox would still have wanted what it wanted. Step out of 'i wish' dreamland and into the real world.

What about Zack Snyder? Good with budgets, good with visuals, good with historical epics...

I think he's busy with Watchmen, and then Cobalt 60 and a possible 300 sequel. Then he's producing another "dead" film.

You guys need to get out of this mindset of get Steven Spielberg to do it, etc. etc.

Outside of fanboy dreamland, Steven Spielberg does not direct every comic book super hero movie you want. Why would Spielberg have to insist it all be WWII?

Marvel is doing this movie the way they want to without studio interference.
