Marvel Films MCU Phase IV!

That way they can set up something like SECRET WARS and get to The Four and X-Men faster. I know the company line is that it's going to be a while, but I don't think it will be as long as people think.
Exactly. And I’m willing to bet my entire comic book connection we will at least see X-Men and Fantastic Four characters in Phase 4 as cameos or supporting players in some of the Phase 4 films that were announced yesterday.

Phase 4 is by far the shortest in terms of time frame, only 2 years. Has the same amount of films as Phase 1 and 2 though.

They're going to drop references, and bring the "X-Factor" team together from supporting casts in other Marvel hero films. It's going to be another Avengers type teamup.

Naturally so they can fight the Avengers.

So definitely BLACK WIDOW, probably ETERNALS and possibly SHANG-CHI are going to be set pre-snap.

WANDAVISION sounds like it could be in a time-displaced setting or partly happening in Wanda's head, and if the DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS story does what it says on the tin that's not going to be taking place on post-blip Earth for the most part either.
LOKI I'm not sure about but if it follows on from when he legged it with the TESSERACT he could be a while until he finds himself in the main MCU timeline, i dunno?

That leaves THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER, HAWKEYE, and presumably THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER (not forgetting New Asgard is now in Norway) as our main post-blip earthbound stories for now.

That seems like a good balance to me (and yeah, throw in SPIDER-MAN 3 in July 2021 I reckon)

So Phase 5?
I'd be happy with...

Feb 2022 - BLACK PANTHER 2 (vs Namor)
May 2022 - FANTASTIC FOUR (vs Annihilus)
July 2022 - GIANT-MAN AND THE WASP (vs Ultron-Pym)

Feb 2023 - CAPTAIN MARVEL 2 (vs Korvak)
May 2023 - GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY vol 3 (vs High Evolutionary)
Nov 2023 - BLADE (vs Deacon Frost)

with the accompanying Disney+ series including WAR MACHINE, INCREDIBLE HULKS, YOUNG AVENGERS (maybe called Avengers Academy?) and more...

...and then Phase 6 in 2024-25 giving us X-Men, Secret Wars and hints at Galactus in Phase 7...

...There's decades left in the franchise yet :)

So that means no big crossover Avengers-type event film before at least the end of Phase 5 (which would then be 2023 if they stick to a 2 year per phase plan) and I wouldn't be surprised if it was even further down the line in Phase 6. They sure know how to build the hype and not rest on their laurels.

This Phase 4 looks in a way a lot closer to Phase 1 than I thought. With new properties in the forefront, the MCU branching out to the small screen and an ambitious set up (on paper at least) for a couple of sequels this feels like uncharted territory once again. Exciting times.

It was never announced Phase 4 was ending with Thor: Love and Thunder. They just simply didn't want to overshoot themselves laying out the schedule beyond 2021 and provide a bit of emphasis on Disney+.

It was, tentatively at least.

I'm surprised Marvel is actually going to use Blade in the MCU and on the big screen as I expected them to bring that character to Hulu like Ghost Rider but that's awesome!

Fantastic Four was teased but are they for Phase IV?
Do you think Disney will allow Blade to keep it's R-rating content when the project moves forward?

Phase 4 villains:

Black Widow: Taskmaster
Eternals: ???
Shang-Chi: The Mandarin
Doctor Strange 2: Nightmare
Thor 4: ???

I am still holding out hope of my dream casting of Denzel Washington as Norman Osborn.

I would bet good money on villain of Thor 4 being the Enchantress

Phase 4=2 Years then

What defines a Phase I think would be an interesting question someone should ask Kevin.

A group of movies and a team-up film at the end bringing all together phase 1. Other phases followed same format with a post-script movie randomly included at the end for some reason. Phase 3 was massive.

Edit: Nevermind are 3 movies announced 2021 already.

I thought Black Panther 2 and Guardian's of the Galaxy Vol.3 were already confirmed for 2020 or 2021

Coogler just recently started writing the script for BP 2, so it's not gonna be ready right now.

This. We won't know anything about BP2 until next year's Comic-Con. The only thing we know at this point is that Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke are all coming back.

What? This means Phase 4 will only last 2 years. Weird

This.

They just bought themselves a few more years to map out Marvel's next big arc.

They said the system the were going with will no longer continue.

So it should be surprising that Phases 4 , 5 etc arent like the Phases before.

They were even talking about not calling them Phases anymore.

The MCU is going to change.

Less movies announced before hand. Less interconnected storylines and probably less Avengers films.

So far Phase 4 looks underwhelming compared to previous phases. Some of these movies need to have a lower budget

Dr. Strange movie introducing X-Men perhaps followed by Secret Wars phase 5 the Russos keep talking about featuring X-Men and Avengers...

FF movie seems to have surplanted Ant-Man but I wouldn't be surprised if those characters don't appear heavily in it. Perhaps Ant-Man will get a Disney+ show if not too expensive. Who knows...

I'd love to see this in Phase 5:

Phase 4 being only 2 years (but including as much content as any typical Marvel Phase) seems to be Feige being smart and flexible. He didn't back himself into a corner by announcing a bunch of stuff that he would then having to cancel or reschedule massively. It gives him time to map out the future of the MCU as they transition out of the main players from the Infinity Saga while incorporating the Fox Marvel properties and finding out how to best integrate Disney+ into his overall plans. Also, by the time Phase 4 is tentatively scheduled to end in 2021, the MCU will have also gotten the character rights back from the Netflix shows, meaning even more characters for them to use in the future.

As stated in the Ant Man forum, it not being mentioned at comic con doesn't mean Ant-Man 3 won't happen. We only got 2 years worth of content announcements and brief mentions of other stuff coming. The fact he didn't say Ant Man 3 means very little
