Marvel Films MCU Phase IV!

Mmmm... Doom is an awesome character, but he's not one of the top three Avengers villains. Perhaps the most interesting as a protagonist, and by far the number one Fantastic Four antagonist, but not the best antagonist for the whole Marvel universe, not if you're putting the focus on the heroes.

I'd much rather Kang as the overarching Thanos-level foe. Giving Kang Thanos-like screen time works. Giving Doom Thanos-like Screen time doesn't. Doom should run Phase 5, the Masters of Evil/Thunderbolts Phase 4 and the Kree-Skrull War would do well in terms of an ancient time-spanning war that Kang is embroiled in.

Phase 4 should be about 'the new normal' in terms of the MCU being an incredible world unto itself, now distinct from our world. It also might be an interesting place to work out 'the next generation' in terms of Runaways and Young Avengers and the like.

With much of their classic lineup back, instead of the main franchises being the ones that lead up to the Avengers, the Avengers, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four and another property should be the thing that leads up, perhaps alternating which 2 a-list properties are together for any given event. In short, drop the Captain America, Iron Man and Thor franchises and use them to push and expand other franchises. There are some number 4s I'd like to see, Cap especially, but there are no number 5s I'd like to see, honestly.

Year 1: Spider-Man 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Ant Man vs Giant Man
Year 2: Dr. Strange 2, Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2
Year 3: Avengers 4, Inhumans 2, Black Widow
Year 4: Marvel's Secret Wars I (capstone for Phase IV)

They should really bring make the Runaways film that they put on the back burner right when the Avengers plans were starting to gear up. It would make for an interesting film and possibly have a Guardians of the Galaxy kind of reception from the general audience.

I'd be for that. Expand it in different directions. Show that the major players are relative, and that C-listers are interesting.

Agreed. With Dr. Strange as the cornerstone, they could really dig in and explore this corner of the Marvel Universe. Not doing so would be a huge missed opportunity IMO.

I'd do a Dr. Strange sequel, Ghost Rider/Blade team-up movie (there are concerns that either of them can't carry a solo, plus it'd be more efficient this way), Moon Knight over at Netflix, pepper in, say, Werewolf By Night and a few others (think along the lines of Hawkeye and Black Widow's intro into the MCU) across those movies/shows and BOOM... you have all the ingredients for an Avengers-esque Midnight Sons movie.

I really hope so. Probably one of Marvel's best new/original series in the last 15 years.

I doubt that Runaways will be one of the three mystery films in 2020. Marvel will have sequels lined up. If Marvel doesn't plan on making a fourth film for any of the older heroes like Cap or Iron Man, then there may be room for The Runaways and other new properties.

I figure they'll take a break from most of the older heroes after their 3rd films to not tire the audience with their constant appearances.

while I agree that the Runaways will not be one of the 2020 movie (horrible suggestion anyway), so far MS has a very good track record mixing sequels with new properties. And I doubt 2020 will be any different. At least one of those three movies wil be something new. That's the way the stuido does it and it worked out pretty well so far.

The problem with that theory is that Marvel does not like to wait more than three years to make a sequel off of a successful franchise. If it's a choice between an unproven property and a proven one, Marvel will opt for the proven one. This has been proven to be true since Marvel adjusted their phase 3 slate to accommodate Spider-Man and Ant-Man.

Spider-Man is a different situation. Marvel is not making this film, Sony is. Had no deal been made between the two companies, then Sony would still be making the Spider-Man film in July of 2017. He is hardly new. Marvel knows Spidey makes money. This is more than anyone can say about Captain Marvel or Black Panther, for example. Though Marvel won't be making any BO money, they will be selling tons of merchandise.

I'm more interested in the Runaways than the bulk of the Phase IV suggestions (I must be the only person on the planet who does not give a crap about a Hulk sequel or an MCU Fantastic Four).

Now that they have the momentum going with Captain Marvel and Black Panther I'd like to continue seeing movies that break the MCU's standard white male lead mold.

Officially it's still Phase 3 (similar to Ant-Man being considered Phase 2). I wouldn't be surprised if it was bumped to Phase 4, though.
