Marvel Films MCU Phase IV!

I hate this. You shouldn't have to watch some streaming show to understand a movie better. I hope this is an exaggeration otherwise they're definitely pushing this a step too far. There will be many more people who won't watch these Disney+ shows but want to enjoy the future movies.

Lets be realistic. It will be some minor Things like the Agents of Shield/Age of Ultron Connection, where the Team found the Information About the secret Basement.

I highly doubt it will be that minor.

Realistically it will most likely be comparable to watching the Avengers movies without watching every single solo film. Which, let's be honest, beyond this board there's a whole world of people who already do that and its never hurt the mcu before. This is just a a tactical play to guarantee that the superfans like us will all definitely sign up to satisfy our completism and desire to analyze everything in context with everything else. The general audience will watch the shows they're interested in and muddle through without the others just like they always have.

I see I’m not alone in my thoughts. This is a play to ensure Disney+ Is successful. I can’t blame them, but it still sort of pisses me off.

If they're really spending $25mil per ep on these things, then they might as well be 8-hour movies, as it pretty much makes them the most expensive TV shows ever made (other than maybe Amazon's upcoming LotR show) and gives those short seasons higher budgets than a lot of MCU films have had. They're certainly gonna want to justify that kind of investment.

I think the biggest tie-ins with the movies will be that they introduce characters that will feature in them. So like Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk and Kate Bishop will have decent-sized roles in future MCU films.

Disney plus is like 8 bucks a month or something. Some of us pay more than that on a single movie ticket and see these movies multiple times when they're in theaters. What do you look at like that, you're basically paying a movie ticket price watch the shows

I think it's only $5.99, innit?

But yeah, I'm thinking these shows will inform where the characters went between films, and give fans a fuller picture of how they ended up where they are, without killing people's understanding of the world if they don't watch them.

Think of Cap, Widow, and Falcon working shadow ops after Civil War

Or Banner becoming smart Hulk and being the world's primary superhero for 5 years

Or Rumlow's transformation into full-blown Crossbones

Any one of those could've made for a cool show that would've been fun to see, but at the same time they weren't at all necessary to figure out what was going on

If Wanda shows up in Dr Strange 2 more powerful and with a more comic accurate costume, for instance, anybody who watched the show will know exactly how that happened, but anybody who doesn't watch will just figure "I guess she's been training with Strange since Endgame, got a lot more powerful, and got a more witch-y costume"

We know the next time Flacon shows up in a movie, he'll be Cap, but this will show his trials and tribulations to fully becoming the new Cap, but people who don't watch will just be like, "yeah, Cap gave him the Shield, makes sense"

etc

A month-by-month subscription will cost $6.99/month. The yearly subscription is a little cheaper and will cost $69.99/year ($5.83/month). New subscribers can try the service for free for the first seven days.

Then there's a Disney Plus, Hulu, and ESPN+ bundle: $12.99/month ($18/month if you sign up for each service individually)

Just to be clear......as clear as my muddled mind can be at this point....I'll end up buying (ahem....renting) Disney+. I recognize it isn't a bad deal (for now) and said so. The thing that rankles me is the slow, methodical intrusion of piecemeal options. Spectrum, Direct TV, etc. annoy me just as much and I've paid monthly rentals to all of them. I'm already getting Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO/Showtime packages. I'll add Disney+ on a monthly basis as needed. The inexorable rental packages grind on. It's a part of our lives. Amazon Prime seems like the smartest option because it offers an option that is clearly convenient and, relatively, inexpensive. So, Disney's approach to selling + is smart and a real money maker. They are blurring the lines that were previously cut and dry. Not a horrible thing to do. Just bring JJ and DD back.

I’ll pirate the sh** out of Disney Plus’s content(especially the Marvel stuff) since I’m perpetually broke. I can’t afford Disney Plus at the moment.
Me too. Especially their library is still missing a lot of Marvel/franchise films. I kinda hate that they acquired FoX.... but not of all Fox's catalogue won't be added in D+. Hbo max/Peacock won't split their catalogue for 2 streaming services.

Yep, given that there are so many services to subscribe to now, money is tight right now for most people and the fact that we [the UK and the majority of Europe] don't get Disney+ until March 31 - I can see a lot of material being watched illegally.

Not by me, of course. I don't condone that type of thing. :cwink:

Gee, maybe I was wrong about Disney pushing Disney + :o.....ESPN radio is pimping it

I thought they paid good at the bar you "work" at. ;)

They are saying by the end of 2020, Disney+ could have 13 million subscribers. At $7 a pop, that's $91M per month. That's over $1B per year (where are you Michael Myers? LOL). I know they've got a lot of overhead, but that's some pretty serious money. Kinda makes that 25M per episode look like chump change. :wow:

Had a feeling that would happen. To many people logging on at once. Remember the Avengers Endgame broke a website for ticket sales as well? It happens.

I remember well. I couldn't get my ticket. What a horrible problem to have. "I have too many customers." LOL.

Yeah, 4 movies a year from 2021 to 2023.

Marvel Studios Dates Five New 2022/2023 Movies; Confirms Plans For Four MCU Movies A Year
Get ready for a whole lot more of Earth's Mightiest Heroes as The Walt Disney Company has officially dated five untitled Marvel Studios movies for 2022/2023 and have essentially confirmed Marvel's long-rumored plans of releasing a minimum of four feature films per year moving forward.

Marvel Studios' updated slate for their blockbuster Marvel Cinematic Universe now looks as follows:

Black Widow - May 1, 2020
The Eternals - November 6, 2020
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - February 12, 2021
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - May 7, 2021
Untitled Spider-Man 3 (w/ Sony) - July 16, 2021
Thor: Love and Thunder - November 5, 2021
Untitled Marvel Film - February 18, 2022
Black Panther II - May 6, 2022
Untitled Marvel Film - July 29, 2022
UNTITLED MARVEL FILM - October 7, 2022 (new)
UNTITLED MARVEL FILM - February 17, 2023 (new)
UNTITLED MARVEL FILM - May 5, 2023 (new)
UNTITLED MARVEL FILM - July 28, 2023 (new)
UNTITLED MARVEL FILM - November 3, 2023 (new)

With everything that's already been announced for Phase Four, it's unlikely we'll learn more about these prospective films until, at least, San Diego Comic-Con, but it seems increasingly likely the new dates have been reserved for the following: Ant-Man 3, Blade, Captain Marvel 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. and Fantastic Four. However, with two untitled 2022 films that have yet-to-be revealed, some of the latter dates may actually be saved for the next big Avengers movie, Deadpool 3 or the long-awaited reboot of the X-Men.

While it's not expected to take place within the MCU, The New Mutants also remains on Disney's schedule, slated for release on April 3, 2020.

On another note, Disney has pushed back Matthew Vaughn's The King's Man seven months from February to September 18, 2020. They've also dated a number of titled and untitled Fox films, including Ridley Scott's The Last Duel, which will star Matt Damon, Jodie Comer, Adam Driver and Ben Affleck, for Christmas 2020 followed by a wide release on January 8, 2021.
