War Machine has an impressive arsenal at his disposal but nothing that harm vibranium.

Hmmm.... the vibranium suit has limits, as we see BP get knocked down during the final battle in his movie, and by Thanos in IW, how does it stand up to explosions, or high heat, because War Machine has plenty of that.

Also, War Machine has one weapon which might disrupt the vibranium suit - as it isn't solid vibranium like Cap's shield - his sonic blaster that he uses vs Scarlet witch. Even if it doesn't disrupt the suit it might incapacitate BP as it attacks the eardrums rather than just being pure brute force.

If War Machine fights smart ( eg carpet bomb with HE / napalm followed up with the sonic blaster ) or simply picks up BP flies straight up until BP passes out and drops him, then I think he can win this one. If he engages in hand to hand at ground level then he's done.

I go with War Machine on this one.

People are seriously underestimating Rhodey here. Not only can he fly, but he also has a ridiculous amount of firepower. T'Challa got floored by a grenade launcher in BP.

What's gonna happen when he gets hit by this?

Rhodey can just rinse and repeat until T'Challa is dead.

Sure, the Panther suit is tough, but it isn't invincible. And it's possible to hurt T'Challa with less force than Rhodey is capable of dishing out.

War Machine wins

Iron Man suits have taken hits from far stronger characters than T'Challa before and we know he's strong enough to lift a tank (typically 50+ tonnes) whereas T'Challa's best strength feats (tipping a 1.5 tonne car over, forcing a 2 tonne rhino to turn) aren't on the same level.

More importantly, he's got flight and extreme firepower so he can win this fight from a distance. As others have said, T'Challa was stunned/concussed after a hit from a grenade launcher and then again by a rhino so Rhodey's missiles/bombs should be too much for him.

Cap got multiple free hits and chances to get back up because Tony only wanted to hurt Bucky and then won with an attack from behind. A fair 1 on 1 fight between Cap and Iron Man would've ended very differently.

I do agree that Civil War proves that a vibranium weapon straight to the reactor can disable an Iron Man suit but it seems unlikely it'll come down to that.

I just have to point out here: the established rule of this thread is gear/time period is based on the picture. The picture given for Black Panther is from Infinity War with the vastly superior upgraded suit, not the Civil War suit that had trouble with conventional weapons. The IW suit literally absorbs kinetic energy and redirects it to his attackers. This should make the vast majority of Rhodey's arsenal useless.

The only shot War Machine has is if he can throw so many missiles at once that he can overload the system or if that sonic weapon he used can be properly calibrated to 'deactivate' the vibranium like the Wakandan rail system did.

Either option may certainly be possible, but I struggle to think of any definitive evidence for either of them. And failing those two possibilities, either T'Challa eventually gets his claws into the suit and shuts it down or this is just a plain stalemate (as long as War Machine is smart enough to stay out of reach - which, unlike Tony, he is) .

All you say is true, and I see WM being the victor more often than not, but I think it would be a mistake to completely write BP off. While Tony wasn't trying to kill Cap ( although he was trying to kill Bucky) and vice versa, he wasn't holding back with his punches, he was going for a KO, but Cap was too tough and skillful.

I the same way, given his tech I can definitely see BP beating WM if the terrain prevents free movement or flight.
