"When [Marvel was initially] purchased, [Robert Iger] said to us, ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.' There’s no question that Deadpool is working, so why would we change it?"

Ryan is staying

Yeah, over $1.5bn in box office revenue for 2 movies on a combined production budget of $168m, Reynold's version of Deadpool is a major money maker, and given the 4th wall-breaking nature of his character he can actually be folded in in someway the audience won't call bulls*** on.

My main question is what is going to happen to Drew Goddard. I know he's signed on to another film ("Sabrina"), but Marvel really need to get that dude on one of their films, whether that's Deadpool3, X-Force, or something else. He's too talented to let slip through their fingers again.

I said this in another thread but I will repeat it here, I hate that Deadpool 2 used Cyclops' orphanage in its plot. That should have been saved for an X-Men movie, and it's especially annoying now that Deadpool is being "integrated" or whatever to the MCU...
He's probably being rebooted. I don't see Feige integrating Foxmovies' continuity into the mcu.

Exactly. He's not going anywhere, it would crazy for them to do away with the current version of Deadpool and even Feige knows it, hence why he said they're not going to mess with him.

Regarding Goddard, maybe have him write New Avengers or maybe the X-Men movie

He's not. He's probably going to crossover at some point too.

I wonder if this law suit would affect their chances of directing the MCU X-Men or F4. I know a lot fans including myself want them involved in the MCU in the near future but if its found they ripped of some guys work for stranger things it would certainly leave a sour taste. Especially if theyve already had discussions with Feige and Disney thats gotta be awkward.

‘Stranger Things’ Creators Face Plagiarism Trial In May Over Netflix Show – Deadline

The Duffers are screwed. And they surely deserve to pay millions to the man whose script they ripped off. Plagiarism should be a career-ender for anyone in any field.

Goddard should totally write the new X-men film for the MCU. It’s going to take a ton of creativity and ingenuity to come up with a storyline setting off the idea of mutants and mutations in the MCU. I really wonder how they will pull this off

Possibly via some cosmic event?? Some way connect it a Fantastic Four series of films?

Outside of Deadpool pretty much anything X-Men that FOX was producing before the merger is getting cancelled. I think we all expected this.

It got poor ratings in the first place. So if Marvel Stud10s are rebooting the characters that appeared in the previous foX films, might as well cancel the foX shows.

I like that they are streamlining things. Hopefully by 2022, its just the mcu films andthe Disney+ shows. I can't wait for Runaways, Cloak & Dagger and Aos to end.

Well thats because of the movies, put him in the backburner and give Storm, Cyclops, Rogue, Psylocke the film adaptations that they deserve and that could easily change.

Also, you should label characters right. Not all X-Men characters or associated with the X-Men are called as a X-Man. The term X-Man is earned by the characters in the first place. As a X-Men fan, that should be a given.

TBH, I'd put Rogue on the backburner since she got plenty of screentime in other films and save her for the sequel. Same with how I feel like the reboot shouldn't be about Jean Grey, Beast, Xavier and Wolverine although I want those characters to be part of it. I'd like to see Cyclops, Storm, Bishop and Psylocke get the most screentime in the first X-Men team film of the MCU reboot since those were all characters who I felt really got ignored and poorly portrayed in the Fox films.

Yeah she got a bigger role in every film that she appeared in. :o
She was the main protagonist of the first film. I'd honestly do a team of Cyclops, Jean, Xavier, Bishop, Wolverine, Psylocke, Beast and Storm with Archangel and Thunderbird present and Thunderbird getting killed off and Archangel looking like he also dies until after the credits. Rogue and Gambit would be in part 2.

No she wasn't, Logan was. She was only the protagonist in the first half of the first act. She was not a main character in X2 or X3 either. Her role was cut out of the theatrical cut of DOFP. Rogue is not overexposed at all and the little we've gotten of her in the 3(-4) films she was in, she not only got barely anything to do but she was a far cry from comic Rogue. Theres plenty of untapped material for the MCU to mine from.

Why would Warren by the Archangel the first time he shows up on film? And why would he be killed off In the same film? That is a waste of a great character and a great arc for Warren. X-Men Apocalypse all over again

He looks like he's blown out of the sky early on in the film and then we see him strapped to an operating table in the stinger.

I have no problem with saving Rogue for the second movie but c'mon. FoX wasted her, and her role got smaller in every new film that she appeared in. Her last film appearance is way back in 2014 and it was a three seconds cameo. Its not comparable to Deadpool or a reason for her to be put in the backburner. Geez.

Nope.

Yep. Archangel would become a Horseman again, then wind up leaving the X-Men and joining X-Force alongside Psylocke. X-Force 3 would be Dark Angel Saga where Cable, Deadpool, Domino, Fantomex, Psylocke and Siryn (and possibly also Sunspot and Mirage) have to save their teammate and friend from himself. If I were Kevin Feige, I'd still give Warren a HUGE role in the MCU. He'd be one of the most important characters going forward, just not initially.

I’m definitely looking forward to a more “fun” version of xmen. Obviously they should still cover prejudice but as all minority groups know even when things are bad we still find ways to love our families, fall in love, have fun etc. perhaps it even becomes more important

I would definitely not make Warren a central figure.

Joy is just as important to the struggle as constant heartbreak. The movies never seemed to find that balance.

If seeing more "lightness" means more hope in the charactetization, more bonds between the heroes, more true to comics characterization for the likes of Beast with his intellectual zingers and Nightcrawer with his swashbuckling attitude then sure.

But if "fun" just means more jokes in the script or turning EVERYONE into RDJ-light "quippers" then no. And I'm sorry if this offends but that does seem to mean what people talk about when they mean fun. Jokes are fun. They are. But a great action scene is fun too. Taut drama is fun. A good actor on all cylinders chewing the scenery is fun. But today the online world has one definition: Thoroughly Four Quadrant styled jokes. And an abundance of them at that. This despite even some MCU films that show you can have humor in them but still not undermine the proceedings and take the story at face value. BP, TWS, CW and IW all show that you can have a big hit and there can be funny moments but you don't need a joke or "lightness" every five to ten minutes. It's okay for the audience to actually feel an emotion. It's okay for dramatic tension NOT to be cut in a scene. It's actually fine for the audience to take seriously the situation of the ramification of what using these super powers in a violent confrontation means.

Again... It is more than okay by me if there isn't just misery porn for the Mutants in the MCU. That actually would be refreshing as compared to, well, going on decades now with tbe comics. But if it just means "more jokes and the characters are mostly loveable quippy *****ebags" then count me as being underwhelmed by that.

It is my assumption that when people say a more fun version of X-Men, they mean more like TAS. Which really did find the perfect balance.

The most obvious contrast is Rogue, who was funny and had heart in spades in the show, but in the movies was angsty and dull. The dynamic between her and Gambit was also fun, and missing from the movies as well.

Jubilee was also a light character (despite having her own real problems) who was comic relief in the show, but she never graduated from cameo in the movies.

Beast also had abundant charm in the show like in comics, which Kelsey Grammer captured, but was completely abandoned for the Nicholas Hoult version who is totally boring now.

While not from the show, Iceman is also supposed to be lighthearted, like a Johnny Storm type, but in the movies he was dull.

Etc.

A much lighter, vibrant energy to the movie. Less melodramatic soap opera with subdued emotions like Days of Our Lives. I'm fine with the X-Men getting brighter and more "jokey" provided it's coming from the right characters. The X-Men being allowed to have well-rounded personalities instead of cardboard archetypes will make a big difference

Yeah, the movies really managed to get Beast wrong. Largely because Hoult just phoned his performance in after First Class and was miscast and poorly written in the first place.

I also agree that Rogue should be closer to the Lobdell/Necieza characterization than the Claremont one.

I didn't have an issue with Ashmore's Iceman but making him more of a lovable prankster would be a huge step in the right direction.

Jubilee can wait until the first generation of New Mutants graduates.
