Marvel Films MCU X-Men - Part 4

This is veering toward spoiler territory for stories just coming out right now and a bit off topic... but the receipts are out there!

Looks like i have to start buying the comics again if they’re doing material like this. LOL.

It’s not fan fiction if it’s in the books... Hard to argue that Hickman is a fan fiction writer. And this is the only logical place to bring those character relationships, especially now that mutants aren’t interested in human norms.

I mean, fan fiction has been doing this idea for decades before Marvel and Hickman decided to try it.

Jean and Logan is fan service.

To Logan fans only. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The first time I remember Jean showing any active interest in Logan was in Morrison's New X-Men. Before then, Wolverine wanted Jean but his feelings for her were never reciprocated. In fact, Logan was written as a foil to Scott and Jean's relationship.

Of course, the reason why Morrison did it was because of the X-Men movie's depiction of the love triangle & Marvel wanted that brand synergy.

It still rubs me the wrong way. And the Polymorphic relationship nonsense even more so. I'm not thrilled with the idea of that

The more I think about it, the more I enjoy and dig the idea of Scott and Jean, one of the most popular superhero couples, being in an open relationship. But Logan? Ow, Jesus, gross!

Let Sue and Reed be the tradicional couple.

As long as Storm is still dignified and being a lady and a goddess, let Jean Grey and Scott do whatever lol.

But seriously that whole open relationship thing does sound like a fanfic gone terribly wrong.

Scott and Jean I want to be the deepest love story without too many other distractions. I've never enjoyed the Wolverine angle in that. Gambit and Rogue's relationship can be very volatile.

Been pondering what visual style theyre gonna go for. Is it gonna be a more bright fun look like Homecoming / FFH or are they gonna for more serious look like Infinity War / Endgame. Personally I kinda want something in between.

Just as long as we get full, cool costumes that pop. That dour, depressing all black leather look is over and been done to death.

Having an open relationship doesn't make you undignified??

Storm is still this character.

An open relationship doesn't take away from the depth of love that Scott and Jean have for each other.

Ya'll need to get a clue about polyamory.

Nope. This was in 1990.

Jean and Logan were an explicit couple in the Age of Apocalypse, too. Different universe, of course, but it certainly seemed like an indication of how the writers saw them in terms of romantic potential.

Isn't that from the X-Tinction Agenda where Jean and Logan were prisoners in the same cell at it looked like Logan was going to die? If so, that seemed like an act of kindness/mercy on the part of Jean. (To quote Homer Simpson: "Ah, sweet pity. Where would my love life been without it?")

Not that there isn't an element of mutual attraction there. Jean was retconned into finding Logan intriguing when she came back to life from Dark Phoenix Saga and Claremont had a chip on his shoulder about editors messing with the happy ending he gave Scott with Madelyne Pryor.

I find it a little difficult to care what these clones get up to with the originals dead in space.

Another reason that makes me dig the idea of Jean and Scott as an open relationship. It can teach people a thing or two about different forms of love.

Are you ignoring their resurrection or is this your “not my X-men!” hill to die on?

No I'm not ignoring anything and understand the 'resurrection' was just a roundabout version of cloning.

Seriously, the new bodies are grown by the 5 using DNA samples Sinister keeps on every mutant, and the minds transferred to the 'husks' by Xavier from copies of the originals he continuously makes via Cerebro. Same basic principle as the 6th Day Arnie movie, or Spider-man's Ben Riley.

Now they are 100% perfect copies, but they are still copies. The original people died in space and nothing about the process used to clone them suggests thier souls (which isn't an unknown in the books) could have joined these duplicates, rather than passed on to whatever afterlife before the things were grown.

So my knowing all that does make it harder for me to feel quite the same about the characters brought back with this method.

Much like Ben Riley (or Gwen and all the other clones in Spidey) are never the same as the original to me.

Btw, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a twist or several to come from the whole resurrection thing. Might take them a while to play it out though.

it's basically which side of the x-men of theseus argument you're on. i have no problem with hickman's run so far. it's a much MUCH needed shot in the arm for the x-books.

I just aint a fan of the idea of cloning to get around death (personal take on the matter, mileage will vary I'm sure). The rest of the books were a great read.

Moira still having one life left to go suggests Hickman's gonna have some fun before maybe walking it back some.

she has at least 1 left yeah, i still feel like destiny was lying to her to try and spook her. but it's a nice out for him to reset at the end of his run/or a future writer, which i'm sure is by design to begin with

The clones were the originals all along just with a mind wipe or some type of mind control & fake memories

WHAT A TWIST

Or the ones who died in space were skrulls and never the real mccoys to begin with! What a tweest!
