Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Maybe Monolith could do Batman Beyond after Arkham Knight :D

Love this game. Not only is it a ton of fun, but as a big Tolkien fan I love all the references to the lore like Celebrimbor mentioning the two trees even if they did some drastic changes to Celebrimbor's "backstory".

Anyway, just platinumed it (or whatever the equivalent is on Steam) and I am still playing it despite also picking up SSB for 3DS.

Just beat it. While I had a total blast playing this game, I was pretty disappointed by the end. The final boss "battle" is a joke and everything ends on a "we don't know what to do so we'll just really hope for a sequel" cliffhanger. The last few missions overall are completely rushed and the plot twist that should have been much more impactful to the story/characters is given little more than two lines of lip service.

I was also disappointed by the lack of iconic locations within Mordor - the developers said we'd get to go to "all over" Mordor and travel to various locations within it from the films (Baradur, Mt. Doom, etc), but these are really only seen in cut scenes. While the locations we did go to were constucted, I felt that they were fairly rudimentary - there wasn't any rhyme or reason to them, just plains with ruins randomly placed. Had they been able to flesh these areas - and the forts/castles - out more, I think I might never want to leave Mordor, but as it stands, the land just serves as a backdrop to kil Uruks in...not a bad backdrop, but it could be better.

The game played amazingly smooth, so long as there were less than 15 or so bad guys fighting at one time. I saw several framerate drops, especially in the last few missions where the game couldn't keep up with what was going on, but maybe that's my fault from branding so many Uruks...

The Nemesis system was fairly simple - I don't think its nearly as revolutionary as the developers claimed, but it did add an element of fun that would be missed had it not been in the game. i'm interested in seeing how they expand upon it in the next game.

8/10 for me.

Quick question - if you choose the dark ranger skin does it appear in the cutscenes aswell?

Thanks. I'll wait til I finish story mode to change it then.

Wow, this game has to be the most anticlimated ever. The last two bosses, miserable lol.

Still the open world and nemesis system make up for it, but now i see why this is just a 8/10 instead of 9/10.

Yea the last 2 boss "fights" were pretty lame but the rest of the game is a blast to play.

Yeah, I came here to talk about how incredibly bad the climax of this game is. After enjoying it quite a bit, they completely crapped the bed with the finale. You don't even get to fight against the person they have been building you up to fight since the start. What is the point of learning all these skills if you can't use them in the end? So, so disappointing.

Honestly, I greatly prefer the Dark Ranger skin. There are so few cutscenes in the game that it wasn't an issue seeing the main skin in those. That and the cloak of the Dark Ranger is just BEAUTIFUL to see flowing behind you; they did a really good job with it.

Clear Arkham tech.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor sees all with new photo mode

A patch available now for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One introduces a new photo mode, letting users play around with some camera tech to get just the right image of Monolith's action-RPG. For all its magic and mystery, we're not sure the ancient art of photography has ever reached the shores of Middle-earth until now.

Toggled on and off, the mode lets you adjust things like the angle, depth of field, zoom, texturing, shading, frames, filters, borders, logos and so on. For example, trigger-happy types can apply a film grain texture or a saturated filter, very much comparable to the Photo Mode introduced to The Last of Us on PS4.

This game is SO addictive. There is so much to discover, so much lore for a LOTR fan! I'm loving it.

Photo mode! Definitely gonna buy this at some point then! I wish every game had a photo mode

I finally finished the game today. Loved every f'ing second of it. Wow. Just such a kick ass game and really loved how it explained so much of the LOTR's lore. Iv seen all the films but still was foggy on a lot of stuff so reading the lore pieces in this game was just awesome. I really hope they do a sequel. Would love to see more Talion. Also, more games need that nemesis system. Such an awesome, kick ass gameplay feature.

Just bought this today and played maybe 30 or so minutes. I'm not the biggest LOTR fan but I'm loving the game so far. Really fun combat a huge open world to explore, and a lot of collectibles to find. I couldn't ignore it.

Honestly, I think it's better than any of the Arkham games.

Yeah, once I put the Dark Ranger skin on, I have never taken it off and I highly doubt I ever will. This is one of the very rare occasions where I like an alternate skin better than the default. IMO, alternate skins should always be cool and fresh, but the default should always be the clear cut best.

Also, I disagree about the cape being from Arkham. It's vastly superior, at least to the capes from AA, AC, and AO (which were still groundbreaking and great). I'm sure AK will feature a similar or even better cape.

I preordered it so I should have got the dark ranger skin but I got the captain of the watch skin which is no where near as cool

Yea that DR outfit is boss. Cant wait for the DLC for this game. Loved it so damn much.
