The level of connectivity that's run through them all since MI3 is what turned the series away from being just a Bond knockoff, into being its own sustainable action franchise. Each film really builds on the last one, but still stands fairly well on its own too.

Way too much hotness in this ****ing film.

We need some type of infinity war level event.

Part 7

-Benji gets killed
-Luther gets killed

All that’s left is cruise and some hired team members. Similar to the first movie.

Will Smith is the villain or someone that is equal to Cruise. Keifer Sutherland? Robert Downey Jr?

JJ taking it back to a more conventional US style spy film (as opposed to the 90s Bond/John Woo style of 2) and whoever made the decision to clearly tie ghost Protocol to III, basically set the table for Rogue Nation and Fallout. And imo the series has been all the better for it.

I will always enjoy the first movie, but it feels like a different series at this point. One that started with III.

Well, Mcquarrie wrote Ghost Protocol,
But, I am sure Cruise wanted that connectivity, too.

Why did I forget that? :funny:

Though the story decision could have come from higher up, I wouldn't put it past McQuarrie. :woot:

Personally the good reviews don’t surprise me, McQuarrie is a damn good yet under rated director.

Yeah I have a feeling it was McQuarrie (and Cruise). Though he is strangely uncredited for GP, Cruise has made no secret that McQuarrie was at the very least A writer on it and that's where their partnership on the series was truly formed and they made all these plans. So it makes sense that they'd be the ones creating that connective tissue from MI3.

I always think of MI3 as the prototype or first draft of the franchise that became fully formed in Ghost Protocol. It's like, Cruise knew what direction they wanted to take the series in tonally, they knew they wanted to stress the team element more, the pieces of the team dynamic were starting to take shape, but it just wasn't quite there yet. It was the Abrams version of Cruise's vision for the series, basically. Which came across a bit more like a high budget episode of Alias with Cruise instead of Garner, but still pretty close to what Cruise wanted. But yes, to me, that film was basically the first installment of what the franchise is now. The first M:I has its charms (I'm actually watching it right now), the 2nd one...less so, but they bear little resemblance to the series from III onward. If you are new to the series, you can totally just start with MI3 and not really miss a beat.

If you kill Benji And Luther in 7, expect a sharp drop in box office in week 2.
You can kill Hunley
Lane, too.
Not Benji and Luther.

Seeing the Monaghan pics... Hollywood just doesn't know quite what to do with her, do they? So charismatic, beautiful and a really good performers but she's somehow always disappearing for a periods from high profile stuff then pops in only to be gone for a bit then does something like a crappy Sandler film, gone again then once more in a supporting role in something like this.

Yeah, she was my top pick for Lois Lane for the longest time. A truly underrated talent, imo. I mean, she's had a solid career, but she could've been A-list. Oh well, I doubt she's complaining. She gets to work with major stars AND maintain some semblance of anonymity. Not a bad level of fame to be at.

I can't believe Rebecca Ferguson had a baby 3 days ago.

Man, they can easily do a spinoff movie with all the women agents. Beat that Chastain and new Charlie's Angels movie to the punch. Hell, keep Benji in there as the tech wiz too. Ferguson and Patton as the main leads and Maggie Q in there.

Amen! And if they have to recruit Thandie Newton's thief character for something, I wouldn't complain, either. Things obviously didn't work out with Ethan so she probably went back to her old ways anyway!

Sexy Female secret agents>>>

I would rather follow a lady Bond than go on another old man adventure with Craig tho.

Pretty sure Daniel Craig would too, lol. But the $$$$ keeps bringing him back anyway.

Never throw Maggie Q in there as an afterthought my man! :nuhu:

I'm just watching Mi:II as I read this, the scene where Nyah is introduced is on right now, I liked her chemistry with Ethan and her sleek Catwoman style character, it would be cool to see her appear again in either this spin-off idea that just came up or a 7th Mission movie, it's interesting that 2 of the main women that have crossed Ethan's path in the series have kinda been a Selina to his Bruce.

I think this is another thing that has kept the Mission movies going strong, Cruise is 100% comitted to making them and enthusiastic about doing so, where as Craig and say someone like Bruce Willis have become curmudgeonly and paycheck driven when it comes to their action franchises.

Well, I wouldn't quite put Craig on Willis level, because while I know he does Bond for the paycheck, he doesn't sleepwalk through or phone in his performances, imo, which sadly I can't say for Bruce.

But yes, Cruise's enthusiasm and commitment continues to shine through, especially in comparison to his contemporaries.
