Well, I wouldn't quite put Craig on Willis level, because while I know he does Bond for the paycheck, he doesn't sleepwalk through or phone in his performances, imo, which sadly I can't say for Bruce.

But yes, Cruise's enthusiasm and commitment continues to shine through, especially in comparison to his contemporaries.

I agree.
Tom Cruise is The Man!

I often forget he is the face of a cult, but then I see a clip of him running again in one of his movies and all is fine.

The Scientology stuff is definitely creepy and even if half the stuff Leah Remini says is true, it’s disturbing. I don’t fault people for avoiding his movies to not line the pockets of that cult.

That being said, I’ve also read anecdotes from his costars like Bill Hader who say he is the utmost professional on the job and always gives 100%.

Is there a video of this actual interview? Would love to hear the audio. I assume they are teasing him about the way he gets ready to fight in the trailer.

The role of Bond is feels more painful then anything. The amount of scrutiny one is in for, even for the ones people love, is crazy. Can't be much joy in it, outside of the money.

There is nothing more disturbing or ironic then the star of The Handmaid's Tale, being a member of a real world cult.

He is. Cruise is very respectful, positive and very committed. You just have to be at your A game because that's what he's bringing to it.

I wonder what they have planned for MI7 because 2021 will be 25 years since the start of the film franchise and they should do something special.

I would like to see The Syndicate have its own Secretary who is pulling the strings and they cast someone like Tom Hanks in the role.

So, I actually didn't hate Reacher 2. Certainly not good, but also didn't feel like it was anything below serviceable, it's pretty much fine. Predictable, but all of these movies basically are. Knepper and the assassin dude weren't half as interesting as Herzog and Sam Worthington Clone #6, but meh, I basically had a decent time with it.

Saw McQuarrie was still producing too, not sure how much he had to do with it. Still, B-grade Cruise action fare is still at the very least neck-and-neck with the other action stuff out there these days.

Was kinda laughing at the Jackman score too, so much recycled Winter Soldier type stuff there (not the themes, but the filler/incidental stuff), he's such a goddamn boring musician.

Mostly the movie just came off weird given Zwick directed it, yeah. It's a little different from what he usually does, different type of movie, but even considering that it hardly felt at all like it was made by him. Blood Diamond awesomeness this was not.

But damn, these Fallout reviews are bananas. Starting to get hyped, not long now. Might try to get through all the other films one a night the week before this hits, only saw Rogue Nation once, which makes me feel dirty. Haha. So good, even if I maybe liked Protocol a teeny bit more.

This has become a tradition for me before each new M:I film is released. Started early this evening because the first M:I just happened to be showing on Starz. I don't love the first two, but these re-watches are always fun.

I see I'm not the only one doing a Mission watch through in preperation. :D

Oh I agree there, Craig's performances haven't slumped like Bruce's, he really will take any role for the payday now and clearly isn't interested in the films he's making, but Craig's constant moaning with each Bond production is growing tiresome IMO.

Cruise seems to genuinely love making movies and actually relishes these big productions where he has a lot of physical wear and tear as well as acting to do.

For those on the west coast interested in watching the original film tonight,
It is on Starz at 10:02pm Pacific time.
Also FX will be airing Rogue Nation on Wednesday July 25, from 8-11:00pm.
FX will air an encore presentation at 11:00pm

For me 3 is where the series took a turn and became something i loved instead of just liked, or in M:I-2's case something i thought was merely ok. I think 3 laid in the ground work for Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation and Fallout to burst through the wall.

For me, 3 was where JJ Abrams, to his credit, introduced the idea of this being about a real guy, as opposed to sleek espionage skullduggery and style (De Palma and Woo are very stylish). But I don't think Abrams has any style whatsoever, so I actually am pretty ambivalent about III as a movie.

He introduced the idea of connectivity, but I think Brad Bird and Christopher McQuarrie are much better writers and directors, and their movies have a lot more creativity, personality, and just are visually a lot less "TV." With that said, I have to acknowledge III helped pave the way for the much superior Ghost Protocol and Rouge Nation.

Man, they can easily do a spinoff movie with all the women agents. Beat that Chastain and new Charlie's Angels movie to the punch. Hell, keep Benji in there as the tech wiz too. Ferguson and Patton as the main leads and Maggie Q in there.

Frankly, I would rather see Ilsa Faust get a solo movie over Black Widow. Ilsa is the enigmatic badass with a charismatic mystique that I think Widow is supposed to have, but I never got that from ScarJo.

Screw that. Buddy movie with Rhames and the crikey-dingo-digeridoo guy from 2.

Make it so.

I think the first movie has aged better than the second.

I don't think they are ever seriously going to make spinoffs or a new movie without Cruise.

I think the thing I didn't like about MI3 was the fake-out opening. Felt very cheap to me to fake us out like that. I didn't get why Hoffman's character would do it that way. Made no sense. Seems like he was enough of a reptile to do the real thing instead of play a big charade like Ethan Hunt would.

Well I normally dislike EW's current critic because he comes off as such a curmudgeon, especially when it comes to blockbusters (if there's a good one, he seems to always begrudgingly give it a "B"), but I must admit him giving this movie an "A" and calling it "insanely great" has me giddy for that reason.

The first movie has definitely aged better than the second. I can barely watch M:I2 now.

3 I am bit mixed on. I am not a huge Abrams fan, but he is a more polished director now than he was then. And it shows when you try and watch 3 now. It’s not bad or anything, it’s a pretty good action movie. But Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation are both much better IMO.

3 looks like a TV episode, right down to the cheap fake out opening before the dreaded "72 Hours Earlier."

With that said the first aged like fine wine. Sure, it is a product of the '90s with its focus on floppy discs and CD-ROM drives, and even nascent internet chat rooms. But it is a top notch action movie and still probably the most stylish and polished of all the M:I films, even if I think Rogue Nation is a tad better. Plus, that computer terminal scene in Langley is still one of the all-time great spy movie scenes.

The Vault Sequence is still my favorite moment in the entire franchise.

I have avoided most spoilers and plot details, i can't help but feel Cavill could take the lead over the next film or two.

If only anyone knew what Keri Russell would be doing in the years to come after MI3. If she were paired up with Rebecca, Maggie, Thandie and Paula...yeesh. That would be a loaded cast!

The comparisons to Skyfall, Fury Road and TDK is quite something. McQ may have crafted his opus the second go-around, Logan style!

I'm the same. And in my younger days I loved MI:2 and thought it was the coolest thing at the time of its release. Maybe it's just getting older.

I mean I love Hoffman's performance in MI3 and I do like a lot of Abrams' direction. however, I think Ghost Protocol combined like the slick direction of Abrams and the better plotting of the original.

Also love McQuarrie's direction as well. He understands how to direct action and make it look good and feel unique. Also you can SEE EVERYTHING.

Sick and tired of directors making everything look incomprehensible and cutting really quick. I want to see what's going on.

That's my biggest peeve about the third movie. It's not a bad movie at all. The action isn't bad. The acting isn't bad. Nothing about it is really bad. It just feels like a television movie instead of a theatrical one. I get that it was JJ Abrams' first big movie but it just feels so...cheap.
