He seems more posh than Daniel Craig to me.

You know, call me crazy, but I think it was a mistake making Cavill's Walker an American. I think they should have rewritten it so that he can play a Brit and Cavill can use his natural voice and swagger and integrate it into the role. Like maybe he should've been an MI6 assassin who had ties to Isla...i don't know, something. I felt at times Henry was struggling with the American accent, but that might just be me.

Yeah, Cavs is definitely more Posh than Craig. I’m not sure he would be good at a Craig/Dalton style Bond, but I could see him fitting more in the Connery/Brosnan mold.

His American accent was a little shaky at points but it wasn’t anything that bothered me. It’s not like it was Sam Worthington or Dougray Scott bad. But I do think they could have let Cavill keep his natural English accent. It just adds to his charm.

Ethan becoming the bad guy for half the movie would have been too reminiscent of the last Fast and Furious movie. I’m glad they went the direction they did.

I had no issue with his accent whatsoever. Americans don't even come close to nailing the British accent. The brits on the other hand pretty much nail the reverse.

Yeah, his accent didn't seem bad at all to me. Sam Worthington, Orlando Bloom, Gerard Butler, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Simon Pegg, James McAvoy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jude Law, Chris Hemsworth...all worse at American accents than Henry, imo.

General perception is we're all posh, we ain't. Craig is a northerner, Cavill isn't.

Well as an American, I'd never call someone like Tom Hardy "posh." For me that's not about regions, it's about a general vibe they give off.

My ranking from most favorite to least.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE - Love the creepy tone and the more everyman quality to Hunt.

FALLOUT - For the next level action and the callbacks to the original.

ROGUE NATION - The Batman Begins to Fallout’s TDK.

MI3 - Bland supporting cast, but the Davien stuff is great.

MI2 - I’m sure I’ve got nostalgia goggles on, but I like it, especially the villain.

GHOST PROTOCOL - The Dubai stunt was cool, but I don’t like the goofier tone. I never rewatch this one.

You mention the goofier tone of GP, but that film opens with the brutal murder of An IMF agent.
Jane Carter who loved this man is so mortified at being in the same room with his killer that at one
Point, her hands are trembling.
Yes, GP has a slightly lighter tone but there is plenty of conflict and drama.
Heck, they barely averted World War III!
And they came so close to failing their mission in GP that they had to answer for it in the next film.

Yeah the only film that I would say had a goofy tone was MI2 with the over-the-top love story and absurd visuals.

#2 accomplished that rare "feet" of being both dumb and boring all at the same time.

Yep I remember all that. I still find it too light and cartoony though.

The only sequences that I really enjoyed from MI: II are when Ethan tricked Mcloy into thinking that he had the virus and when he later took out Stamper and assumed his identity so that he could steal Chimera.
The rest didn’t feel like Mission Impossible
At all.

Ghost Protocol is my personal favorite. The story was great and the stunts were really cool.

I don't care what anyone says. I will take M:I 2 over M:I 3 any day of the week, every damn time.

Then again, I seem to be the only guy around here who actually really likes M:I 2...

Heh, maybe one of these days I'll rewatch MI2, but I remember disliking it in theaters and the time or two I tried to watch it back when VHS and Blockbuster were things, so... one day. Maybe.

I dunno, I looove MI:3 and I love it because A) the story is simple, straightforward and easy to follow (lets face it, these movies get too convoluted for their own good sometimes). B) PSH is the BEST villain of the franchise. He was so menacing and really brought the tension to the film. C) the climax. Even though it wasnt as epic as MI4-6, i thought it was tense AF especially when Ethan "dies" and Julia is left to fend off a bunch of mercenaries by herself while trying to revive her husband. I thought JJ did an excellent job of crafting an intimate but nailbiting climax in that movie.

I loved PSH, but for me, JJ wasn't thinking cinematically yet, and other than the helicopter chase and the budget to recreate parts of the Vatican, not much about it could've been done on TV. I also thought the Rabbit's Foot gimmick was a bit smug. And maybe just because I like Benji more than I ever cared about Julia, but I was much more tense at the end of Rogue Nation when it really seemed like poor Simon Pegg was about to be killed off.

With that said, you might be right about Cruise's ego in 2. It was evidently big in 3, but I forgot 2 did have him climbing a mountain without a wire and in luscious long hair. :hehe:

Just curious, who is your least favorite character in the Mission Impossible film franchise?

Sean Ambrose from MI:2. WOW he was a lame villain and Dougray Scott's overacting wasn't entertaining, it was just annoying.

My #2 would be faux-Jim Phelps from the first movie because, well I'm one of those who find what that film did to his character to be unforgivable and it drastically knocks the movie's ranking down for me.

If I was ranking the worst MI characters, they’d all be from M:I2.

1. Richard Roxburgh’s boring henchman
2. Yawn Ambrose
3. Helicopter pilot guy
