People say this, but I don't get it at all. He isn't wooden at all in UNCLE imo. It is almost like people are applying his Superman to his role there.

Yeah I don't get it either. Cavill and Hammer were really good in their roles. Debicki was pretty good too. The film itself was just dull and flat. It needed a faster, funnier script and more action.

Yeah, man. That evil bastard sacrificed his life to save the world. What a prick. :woot: :oldrazz:

So glad to hear this. I really like him in the man from uncle" and have found him terribly misused as superman. I still think he has it in him to be a way more endearing, charming and likeable version of that character. I think the ethan vs young evil bond type would be a cool way to go as others have said.

Makes sense, he played a pretty good villain in Batman v Superman.

I don't even think he's particularly wooden as Superman, tbh, he's just not being given much decent material. It's not like he was Hayden C. talking about sand.

That's true. But with BvS it is hard to see where the material ends and he begins. I still like him in MoS, though watching it back, it becomes more clear he is rather passive. But again, how much of that is the writing?

Okay, if Renner or Baldwin returns I'm putting money on Cav killing either one.

I'm not entirely sure whether any set can take the charisma sucking vacuum that having both Cruise & Cavill in one scene together will cause....

If Cavill isn't the villain... do you think that he could perhaps be a protege to Hunt, who could take the lead in a future film with Hunt stepping into more of a "central command" type of role? Of course, that would depend on how audiences respond to him in this film. But you have to think that they have plans for this series after Cruise decides to hang it up. I know Cruise may literally be the Count of St. Germain, but if not, he'll eventually get too old for this type of role.

Wasn't that the plan for Renner?

I think I read that Cavill's manager confirmed he was the villain.

I don't care who you are but you ain't topping PSH's villain in MI3. That dude was a dangerous mofo being played by an awesome actor.

Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, and Jeremy Renner are also expected to return, though it’s unknown in what capacity.

Christopher McQuarrie, who directed “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation,” is back to direct this sixth film from a script he wrote.

Plot details are still under wraps but sources say Cavill would play some sort of a right hand to the head of Cruise’s unit. Alec Baldwin played the role of Cruise’s boss in “Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation” but it is unknown if he will return as the part has been replaced with a new actor (Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Fishburne, Tom Wilkinson) in previous installments.

Apparently Cavill's manager has since confirmed him as the movies villain.

I'm kind of hoping that Vanessa Kirby is playing the main villain, and Cavill is her right hand man, chief enforcer.

In the Man from UNCLE, Solo stood by stoically when a bomb exploded around him during a senate hearing. He didn't bat an eyelid.

Later on, during his fight with Kuryakin, Solo told the Russian to save Martha.

So no, I don't think I'm confusing their characters at all.

The film was very dull and flat. It's as if they didn't know how to get the action going, or really any scene going. The tone was really weird. It was one of the most boring films.

I think Cavill would only be playing the villain here if you're going to hire him. Otherwise his role seems to become a bit redundant next to Cruise and Renner. I think he's been hired to fight Cruise at the end.

Wasn't Cavill a replacement for Cruise on UNCLE?

Ethan Hunt vs Napoleon Solo. I'm so ****ing in. Not even some of the stupid **** in this thread can ruin it.
