MissionImpossible 6: Paramount backs Tom Cruise for another sequel http://variety.com/2015/film/news/mission-impossible-6-tom-cruise-paramount-1201555090/ …

Paramount Pictures vice chairman Rob Moore is ready for more Ethan Hunt, strongly endorsing Tom Cruise’s recent announcement that “Mission: Impossible 6″ is in the works.“We’re very happy to be developing this movie with Tom,” Moore told Variety. “There’s no question that Ethan Hunt deserves another film.”

It was the first public comment by Paramount execs — who tend to take a measured approach in discussing future films. Even as “Rogue Nation” opened on Friday, the studio was insisting that its tracking showed a $40 million U.S. opening, even though the final figure turned out to be 40% higher
Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Rentrak, said he’s not surprised that another “Mission: Impossible” is in the works.

“I think it’s very smart,” he added. “Given the performance of ‘Rogue Nation,’ there has to be another movie.”

Cruise revealed plans on Tuesday to return in the Ethan Hunt role for a sixth “Mission: Impossible,” asserting that shooting could start as early as a year from now.

“We’re starting to work on it now. We’ll probably start shooting it next summer,” he told host Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show.”

40 mil tracking my ass.
Cruise missile is on fire!!

I think the 40M tracking was just right......for Friday and Saturday. About a week ago, I said I thought it would come in at around 60M because I thought they did a really good job with the trailers, promo work, and the jet sequence grabbed me. After I saw that, I said "OK. I'm going first day."

Someone pointed out to me that advance sales weren't strong and that they needed to pick up. Later in the week, they did.

Totally fun, interesting movie with just enough questions about the loyalty of the characters to each other.

It's not just the weight. True 15/70 IMAX cameras are very expensive and there aren't a lot of them. The cameras aren't bought. They are rented from IMAX. For instance, there were only like two in the whole world of the type of IMAX camera Nolan used on TDKR. They were on loan. One was broken during production when Anne's stunt double road the Batpod down the front steps of city hall and crashed into the camera. How much do y'all think that cost the studio? And to beat all the shot they were filming ended up on the cutting room floor.

So strapping an IMAX film camera onto a massive cargo plane and flying it around isn't something that happens all that often.

That's interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. Still.......I'd love to see that shot......

I wonder if the stunt double is working in another sector??? :woot:

The MI franchise is solid. GP took it up a notch and this new film is right on par. Just wished Patron came back. Hope she returns for #6.

This franchise didn't really hit its stride until the last movie but I still really like the first and third ones. The third has a great emotional core to it that I really like and Hoffman is still the franchise's best villain. I pretend the second doesn't exist.

Totally.

I have to say that while the score for this movie was pretty good, the score for GP was much better. This track for example is just so awesome:

I personally loved the score for RN I think it is an interesting fact that all 5 films had a different composer for each film yet most all used similar themes to give it that audio familiarity.

Giacchino did both M:I3 and GP, but I agree with your general point. They're a pretty cohesive collection of scores.

I Grew up on the TV show.
The second series wasn't as good as the first.
But, it was good to see Phelps in action again .
However, right now is a real great time to be a Mission fan.

Glad to see the movie outperformed the tracking.

I haven't seen the film yet and I'm avoiding spoilers, but what was the general consensus for the standout set-piece sequence?

Plane sequence is great but the motorbike sequence is a belter mate. Probably beat's John Woo's in MI2 but I won't compare too much as that was back in 2000. And technology for those kind of stunt's has come a long way since.

And according to Jeff Goldsmith's podcast at Nyc screening, that was none other than Cruise's idea. The man knows how to make things better when it comes to filmmaking for sure.:cwink:

Indeed.

I'm actually curious if Cruise has any intention of directing someday. I think he'd be good at it.

Renner- it's a good year for Hawkeye

Two sequels and he gots fleshed out more

LOL so true. I went from "Ugggh Renner again" to "What the...? I'm actually enjoying this scene!" :funny:

Probably the whole motorcycle chase sequence for me. But there are several stand-out sequences that aren't necessarily what I'd consider "action sequences." Just really great and memorable sequences.

The motorcycle chase scene is my favorite.

Also, just to report again on the IMAX conversion - I just saw it again, this time on the laser IMAX in the museum near me, and the conversion looked MUCH better than on the regular digital IMAX. Still a couple of shots that seemed out of focus, but w/ far less digital noise than my previous LieMAX show.

The opera house scene is a stand out for sure, that was rad, less on the action but classic down-to-the-second espionage tension.

Oh....I thought you saw it in a true IMAX theater the first time. I'd be interested to see what that (True IMAX) conversion looks like. The problem with (at least) some of the LieMax theaters is that they use dual 2K projectors (That is NOT a typo). I can't speak for all of them, but this is the case (or was) with the Century City 15 AMC "IMAX". I would expect the true IMAX print to be every bit as good as anything, but not as good as something actually shot with an IMAX camera.

For me, the motorcycle scene was the best, but just knowing Tom was really hanging off a plane and seeing it kind of blew my mind. I loved so many of the action scenes that didn't involve planes, cars, motorcycles, etc. Loved the last fight scene Rebecca was in (I think it was the last one anyway). She "sorta" did a number on someone......she sorta did a number on a lot of people come to think about it.

EDIT: Love the Orphan Black video. You've probably guessed I rather like it too (okay, you already knew). Wish I didn't have to wait until forever for the next season. :csad: If people haven't seen this, you need to get on Netflix now and check it out. I put it up there with Daredevil and that's some pretty highflying praise. Tatiana Maslany is just unfrelling believable.

Thanks everyone. :)

That's a big enodrsement for me as the motorbike chase in Mi:II is one of my all time favourite action sequences, it's like a modern day western shootout with bikes replacing horses.

More motorcycle love. :D So I am guessing there is quite a bit more to it than in the trailer?

Personally I really liked the underwater sequence.

It might just be the impression I got from the trailers, but would you say the Underwater sequence was kind of a sister sequence to the Langley infiltration in the first film?

Yeah, the first time I saw it was a regular ol' digital AMC IMAX which I'm pretty sure was just 2K. The conversion looked pretty ugly there. The 2nd time was the museum where I used to go for my 70mm presentations, but they just replaced their IMAX film projector with a new laser IMAX projector instead, but the picture that thing puts out really is stunning. The digital IMAX conversion looked much, MUCH better on that one. I don't know how it would look on a 70mm film conversion, but they probably didn't even do one considering how few theaters would even be able to show it these days. I was just happy they didn't force me to see it in 3D to see it on IMAX. Seems like 2D IMAX releases like this are becoming quite a rarity themselves, and that's my absolute favorite way to see a movie.

 Indeed. Would be fun get her in one of these M:I movies, haha.
