I really liked Rebecca Ferguson, but her work in Rogue Notion can't even be compared to Michelle Yeoh's stuntwork in Police Story 3. Or be compared to Yeoh's action work in general.

I respect Yeoh too, but it's an apples and oranges thing to me. Yeoh wasn't in films with the tone of MI much. It's a very over the top, cartoony type of action. The MI stuff is very modern, with some over the top touches, sure, but trying to come across very gritty.

You know what I love? Most action movies who have a tough female on the good side will only let her have one fight against a bad guy, and it's usually another female (see Fast and Furious series, Guardians of the Galaxy). But this movie had Ilsa go up against a guy, made it believable, and was awesome.

What really stood out to me about that scene (by the standards of an American movie) is that Ilsa draws her knife and calls out her opponent. Most of the time in these movies the woman is fighting her male opponent in self defence, but in this case she swaggers out and basically says, "Yeah, *****, come at me, it's been a while and I need the practice."

And meanwhile, Ethan just kind of runs away and lures Lane into a trap. So technically, Ilsa gets to have the big "final battle" scene.

Tom did as he races motorcycles and I believe is a certified stunt driver, but Rebecca only did the close ups on a rig, that is why she wears the helmet so they can use a stunt double easily for other shots.

Ah ok, thank you. You know, I'm kind of surprised that that plan could even take off. I thought that it'd be grounded by the sheer size/weight of Tom's giant brass balls.

for certain shots he's on a rig as well I think. The frontal close-ups for example.. that would be way too dangerous to film. certified stunt driver or not.

Super late to this, but this was absolutely fantastic! I loved Ghost Protocol, but I definitely like this one more. The action scenes were shot marvelously. The opera set piece and the car/bike chase were brilliant. The underwater sequence was great too and I loved that the ending was a more of a suspenseful affair, rather than another gigantic set piece. McQuarrie is just such a damn good director. Both this and Jack Reacher were so well directed. Anxiously looking forward to his next project .

And of course, Rebecca Ferguson . I can't think of anything to say about her that hasn't been said already like a kajillion times . Just an absolutely amazing actress, that I desperately need to see more of .

For me, Tom riding the motorbike in that scene is just as impressive as anything he did in Rogue Nation. Those bikes were zooming. It must be so good for a director to have the actor's face in the shot like that, instead of using clever editing with stunt doubles.

I think that the car and motorbike stuff were the the best action stunts in the film.
I love that the sequence starts with a high tech heist and that turns into one of the best chase sequences in movie history .

Just finished watching it. I loved it and think it's the best M.I. movie yet! The action scenes were fantastic. There's a scene with the motorcycle chase that I swear was shot on the same mountain road as the one used in the new Fast and Furious. I give this movie a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Extremely entertaining.

I recently heard some describe Rebecca as "looking like Mariska Hargitay had a baby with the sun." This is perhaps the most hilariously awesome descriptor that I've heard in awhile, and kind of true.

Oh and having rewatched the movie, I'm officially going to start pushing for an Ilsa Faust spinoff film. She's that awesome.

Why a spinoff? The franchise is Mission Impossible, not Ethan Hunt's Mission Impossible. You could just make a MI movie with her as the lead.

Indeed. I also like how it's with the most physical imposing villain and not just some random henchman.

Random, but it's connected to the series and it's a visual effect that I've always admired.

The bridge attack scene in Mission Impossible 3 is remarkable because all of the water is CGI. Yes, the entire ocean/body of water is completely computer generated, and the bridge was 'extended' by movie magic via digital plates. They actually shot the scene near LA near a valley, and the bridge itself is fair small.

^She's pretty the most praised part of the movie. And it'd be a cool movie with a strong female lead. There's two good reasons right there.

Maybe the next movie could have Ilsa return as a team member, but give her a quasi independent storyline where she's effectively the lead character for her side of the mission (i.e. similar to Brandt's role in the current movie). Rather than have her play off Ethan as a love interest. That might cement her status as the natural successor to Hunt and test whether audiences would buy her as the sole lead in a future film.
