The opera scene in RN was expertly staged and shot. Really well done.

Ugh I just wish the climax of this movie was better, with the other movies(especially 3 and GP) there was a sense that their mission was actually... impossible! In this one it just didn't feel as intense.

You should read the Collider interview with the director. He perfectly explains why they didn't go for the expected big finale and how the plane scene was originally intended for that.

It's a decent finale for the film. It is clear it was not the original ending and the reports of re-shooting the ending were accurate.

No, they didnt re-shoot anything. Those reports were false. They paused filming to come up with another way to end the movie.

It was very "Hitchcok-ien." And again, I love the whole "take the shoes off" thing with Rebecca Ferguson (take notes Jurassic World, she does it TWICE in this film). The whole "London chase" was really well-done as well. Very moody/eerie, I half-expected Jack the Ripper to go walking by or something.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the first time that a MI film has:
Directly referenced the events of previous films (besides just returning cast members)? Because I cannot recall it ever happening before, but here:

-They reference Ethan breaking into the CIA (MI).
-Motorcycle action scene (subtle MI: II allusion).
-A Rabbit;s foot on the keys that Ilsa throws Ethan (MI:III).
-Hunley showing images from the climax of GP, and referencing it as well.
-The mention of "a new Secretary not being appointed yet," since Tom Wilkinson's IMF Secretary got killed in GP.

There are A LOT of them.

That's what I loved about that rescue. She was at such a great risk of drowning because we were shown she could barely hold her breath long enough to make it in there in the first place, but she went anyway.

It's funny, I read an article with Ferguson where she mentions that, when she first read that part of the script, she wasn't sure about the whole "Ilsa rescuing Ethan" thing. But apparently Tom Cruise loved the idea. He was really into the notion of Ilsa being Ethan's equal and thought that this would help sell that idea.

She also shocks him back to life with the defibrillator. She actually saves his butt like 3-4 times in this film.

In addition, how if they exert too much energy like rescuing Hunt and trying to pull the hatch lever it uses up more oxygen. All those factors made me so in awe of her and this actress Rebecca executes Ilsa so superbly I'd rank her a close 2nd to Furiosa for this year's kickass/badass/awesome female character.

I was reading an interview with Simon Pegg were he criticizes the poster campaign for this movie:

And yeah, they REALLY don't do her character justice in a lot of the marketing. She's awesome, and even the "sexy" moments aren't played up as such:

-Her in a bikini-The scene's like 20 seconds long and there's a plausible reason for her to be wearing it.

-The dress-Not played up for sex appeal either (well maybe in ONE moments) and it also in context.

-The "taking her shirt off thing"-Also a plausible reason for it (and it's really quick as well).

-Etc.

This movie was badass
Hello Rebecca Ferguson

I already knew that she could act from other things. "Hello Rebecca Ferguson, action movie badass" would be more accurate.

She would be the female badass of the year, only if it weren't for Charilze Theron.

I think the impossible parts of the mission are always the second act set piece. In the first one it was infiltrating the CIA, in GP it was the tower, in RN it was the water thingy.

I agree (though I won't argue with anyone who doesn't). Charlize just stole every scene she was in during MM.

MY MI Ranking:

Rogue Nation
MI3
Ghost Protocol
MI

Sleep

MI2

So they re-wrote the ending...there you go.

Yeah thats actually a big difference. Stuff gets re-written all the time during production. Whereas shooting equals commitment & money.

I wonder if there's anybody Hunt couldn't bring down? I'd love to see a fantasy scenario where he has to take on either Jason Bourne or James Bond to see if he could bring them in for IMF?

I didn't know the ending was re-written.

Btw I'm watching MI3 right now, the first half hour is boring but the rest is pretty great. Something I noticed is that it has more gadgets and spy-ish stuff than GP and RN.

Which opera scene do you prefer? This one or the one in Quantum of Solace?

Haha, I've dreamed of this for years. YEARS. While everyone else is always pitting superheroes against each other in their "what if" scenarios, I'm always, "yeah, but could Bond take Bourne? THAT's the real question!" Ethan would lose in a hand-to-hand combat situation with either of them, imo, but if we're talking some sort of heist or elaborate scheme to pull off, I think he'd have the upper hand.

Rebecca Ferguson stole the show, give her a superhero film.

The action and comedy was awesome in this... bad guy almost touched PSH, but everything else in this film stood up or surpassed anything in a previous M:I film.

The filming was outstanding as well, some stunning stuff and a nice benefit to a franchise getting slightly long in tooth.

M:I RN
M:I III
M:I
M:I GP
M:I II
