Morrison's Multiversity

I wasn't aware of it, didn't know Lee was on the roster of artists. Which world is this? I'm assuming Freedom Fighters themed?

Yeah it takes place on Earth-10 where the minority Freedom Fighters (I.E.: African Black Condor, a Gay version of The Ray etc.) take on Overman (Nazi Superman) and the Nazi Justice League.

I wonder if Andy Kubert wasn't avaiable. Nazi Batman is the grandson of Enemy Ace, so i thought Kubert would be perfect for this.

So Pax Americana was transcending.

Also it blows my mind that no-one has noticed that the cover is also the DC comics logo on fire. It's pretty obvious. Even the title bar through the middle makes the makeshift gap for the 'C'. Plus the diagonal line going up through the middle is the 'page flip'. There's a reason they cut the peace sign in half. That Morrison/Quitely.

Hm, I kind of see the D, but I don't know, not sure if that was intentional or not. Be cool if it was, though.

it was a great issue indeed. Morrison + quitely = mind blown.

i just picked up pax americana............... there goes the rest of my day

What's everyone's thoughts on Pax Americana? I read it twice, once from beginning to end, the second time end to beginning. It's cool that it works both ways except for a few sequences that don't really make much sense backwards (the scene where The Question is chased by Blue Beetle and then fights Nightshade particularly doesn't work all that well to me backwards). I'll probably wait for the HC to read it again.

The scenes are still read forwards, but the order of the scenes goes backwards.

so should i try reading it from front to back, but still read the captions in each panel in the original order?

it was a very dense comic. I definitely had to repeat it but it has a lot of great layers. It's good to see captain Allen Adam back. SOS is still my favorite though so far. One thing I would say that's great is that Morrison and quietly basically did things that you could only do in the comic book and I appreciate that. This is definitely one issue that took advantage of the medium and it was a beautiful thing to see. you kind of wonder though how much did the gentry really affect this world and how much of it was really just always messed up.

I think the gentry once again manipulated the world with ultraa comics.

In the scene where Adam and Prez Harley are walking, when they come over the bridge, the bridge and it's reflection make an eye looking with the guttering.

So, Lord Broken is clearly there- his Multiversity #1 appearance being a house filled with eyes behind windiws. The Gentry have been gaining access to the worlds through deaths it appears (besides Ultra Comics), so Yellowjacket's death was what let the Gentry in as a physical manifestation.

Harley planned to exorcise them himself with Adam and Peacemaker, but Steel, pawn of the Gentry, foiled his plan. So now that superheroes are effectively dead on that world, it seems the Gentry did quite a lot.

I really hadn't thought about these stories in the context of the Gentry stuff at all, that'll be cool to go back to as I re-read these. With Ultra Comics being the last book, i wonder if we'll get a clear resolution to that, or if it'll just remain something in the background that we'll be left to interprete on our own.

Oh cool, I thought Ultra Comics was the last one. I was hoping we'd get a physical conclusion to the main story, and not just something readers were to piece together on their own.

Great observation

Ah so Damian is going to end up being the earth 16 representative on the multiversal Justice League.

Thunderworld :hrt:

It's a testament to Morrison's talent that he can go from something like Pax Americana to something so vastly different like this.

Thunderworld was pure magic. Multiversity is so good. I wanna marry it.

I still think Adam will overcome his defeat and reemerge, but Thunderworld is the first issue with a clear victory to the good guys.

There is the theory that the banishment of Adam from Earth-4 is what leads to him to being in Limbo in Final Crisis: Superman Beyond. If that's true, Adam could be returning to Earth-4. Though I do believe that Earth-4 must remain as a world that is inherently distrusting of heroes.

As for Thunderworld it was freaking brilliant, either that or Pax Americana is my favourite so far. Thunderworld definitely was the first victory of the Multiverse, I guess it was Intellectron talking through the comic that Cap screws up.

I'm only left wondering now how Master Men will end. Perhaps Superman himself is the agent of the Gentry here, and it is the reassertion of the "traditional" hero that defeats the Gentry on that world.

The guidebook, is probably the one I've been looking forward to most (y'know, that I've read Pax and Thunderworld). Can't wait to get that one.

Thunder World was outstanding! I loved seeing Captain Marvel again as he should be!

With Thunder World, those Shazam co-features awhile back, the upcoming Convergence story and the movie, I wonder how long before we see a full ongoing series for Shazam.

Just finished reading Thunderworld. Man, it was so much fun! :woot:
