Mortal Kombat

Eh dunno, I watched it recently and that first film really doesn't hold up well at all.

No, it truly hasn't. Aside from the Scorpion vs Cage, Reptile vs Kang and Goro's fight scenes, it really isn't as great as I found it to be back in middle school.

how about Jennifer Morrison(Warrior,House,Star Trek) for Sonya

The problem here is that this is a group story, and should not focus one character. One example that is similar is the Avengers film that is focusing on multiple characters.

I still want and hope they the keep mystical and supernatural elements for the theatrical release. That's what made the game popular besides the characters.

I enjoyed the web series and if this new movie is anything like that I'm down for this. It'd be great to finally get a serious MK movie.

Donnie is awesome but he's too old. My guess is Hollywood is going to get a younger Asian actor.

Screw too old! :cmad: The dude's asian. Slap some make-up on him and he looks like 20 again. In my life time, I need to see Donnie Yen as Kung Lao.

I say Gina Carano for Sonya, she doesn't have to be played by a blond actress, lets get some realistic punches and knees thrown around.

Tony Jaa for Liu kang? If he isn't the main character and doesn't need to do much talking, the fights would be sick.

I wouldn't entirely be against having Johnny Cage being the main hero character, I think his take on the whole mystical aspects of the tournament would be funny and most in line with what the average fan would feel in that situation.

Sonya has always been blond so stick with blond. Don't need the fan boys *****ing :o Kitana is the black haired one. Unless we switch it around heh

well, just saying Sonya doesn't have to be a pre-blond actress, hair can be dyed. But I get the feeling this guy is not going to bring the MK games straight to live action. Hair color changes might be the least of the problems that the "Fanboy" will complain about. (I hate that term, it makes no sense, because you get called a fanboy which ever side you're on, like something or hate something you're a fanboy?)

Yvonne Strahovski for Sonya :o

i wouldnt mind laura from smallville/v, or strahovski from chuck to be sonya.

Okay here are some questions for everyone, Who should play Raiden, Shang Tsung, Princess Kitana, Kano and Jax?

Should they get unknowns to play Sub-Zero, Scorpion Reptile and any other ninjas?

If they do the first game storyline how should Goro be done, CGI or prosthetics?

for goro i would go posthestics and cgi work, as for sub zero/scopion/reptile if they were to be minor characters then ya just stunt actors would be fine for them. As for raiden/shang tsung/kitana/kano/jax/lui/johnny/sonya that is a bit harder to pick.

As expected...fan casting... *groans*

KT: Yes, my sensibilities lean more toward realism as opposed to the more mythological stuff that Mortal Kombatautomatically has. You can expect more of that instinct in the feature version. It will be more realistic and gritty than the last two movies, but also a very big story.]

Facepalm.

Exactly what I didn't want to hear. The mythology is part of what makes MK so cool.

Le sigh. I'm probably never going to see a true MK movie in my lifetime. It could be so epic, on such a large scale ..... but directors like KT are too ***** to try and capture it.

Maybe the best course of action is not to have a main protagonist. Perhaps a series of short stories with different character point of views intertwining could be an option. I dunno, I think something different needs to be tried here other than simply following a single character arc through a fighting tournament.
I dunno,...it's hard to make an effective ensemble movie without one main guy to root for..

Karl Yune came to mind for Liu Kang aswell, never really seen him act though, only that there's a resemblance.
