If I have to choose one I'd choose powers... or behavior... *tosses a coin* Heads is power, tails behavior..
*coin lands* tails... ok Behavior... although it would've been funny if the coin would've landed on it's side not letting any face touch the ground...

And Unmasking takes the lead.
I can honestly say, however, that there's one good thing baout the unmasking; it's biting him in the @$$. Had everything-or ANYTHING-gone right for him as a result of his going public, if he reflected on it as the best thing he's ever done, I'd be 10,000 times as mad as I am about it.

They could just pull a "LAWL GUYS PETER PARKER WAS JUST A COVERUP FOR THE REAL SPIDERMAN AND HE ENDED UYP BEING A FALLOUT IM REALLY THE REAL SPIDERMAN" Then have it be someone else, and have them 'use peters powers' or web slinger thing so everyone is like
"Well, maybe peter isn't?"

I thought at first that Other had to do with The Other... that's why I voted other then I realized that other Meant OTHER reasons... well here they are...

Costume...
The Iron SPidey suit A.k.a. the Red&Gold Aberration... with tentacles...
First of all The suit looks like crap, suddenly the suit gans magical symbiote ripoff costume changing powers... Whatever happened to "My suit my colors" Spidey's now bulletproof. Back in the day he could dodge bullets...

Organics...
The first blow against Peter Parker, the character... Originally Peter devised the web shoooters, his first gadget... It's use was not only to give SPidey a means of transportation, but to give us a small glimpse of Peter's gifted intellect... Having Organic webbing dimishes that...

Stingers and the rest of the craptacular powers...
Not only he's wearing an Iron knockoff suit, he can talk to insects... The new Antman? He can stick to most surfaces with his whole body... I swear he could already do this... Night vision... Why does he have a Spidey sense for... last but not least, the evil skewers of doom... Man-Spider has teh stingerz, Wolverine-esque skewers of doom... Wait a minute!!! Spidey's not a killer! Not anymore bub! When the skewers pop out someone's gonna be kebobbed!

Behavior...
Suddenly Peter's intellect has decreased, from being one experienced fighter in the Marvel Universe he's become t3h n00b! 100 times more gullible, bigger pansy, and anyone, like a newborn baby can beat the crap out of Spidey, a guy who back in the day has fought against Juggernaut, now gets the crap beaten out by everyfrickin'body... not commenting on his yesman attitude towards the iron drunk... Y' know, the guy who went on a rampage because people were using his technology...

Living in the A-Tower...
Yay! Dissapearance of Peter's supporting cast! Now Peter has his family kidnapped in the A-tower, because he's the glorified Antman/Robin to Stark... This helps Peter into being Iron Drunk's bitc... I mean faithful sidekick...

Unmasking...
What can I say about this... It's so wrong that it's not funny... Are we talking about the same guy who was worried that anyone knew who he was... because of the deaths that this would cause... (like Gwen, Ben Reilly, Harry Osborn, etc.) The guy who crapped his pants near Norman Osborn worried of what he would do to MJ, May, the guys at the Bugle... THAT GUY UNMASKED HIMSELF IN FRONT OF THE MEDIA? Are we sure that Uatu isn't sniffing space super glue and tuned out of the 616 and we're watching the Bizarro 616?

Although I'm leaning a bit more towards behavior, Unmasking and the evil skewers of doom...
at this rate joey q's minions will have REESE WITHERSPOON mopping the foor with spidey and THAT my friends would be the final humiliationof spider-man:spidey: :spidey:

The behavior is getting on my nerves.

Especially in Civil War #3....

I thought about picking "behavior", since that leads to many of his dumb decisions lately...

BUT....his behavior lately is really not Pete's fault...it is just plain old lazy and inconsistant shock value WRITING.

If Pete physically had been unmasked by Iron Man, i could deal with it better....but not because Iron Man ASKED him to...and then aunt may was written to give him an "OK" on exposing himself as Iron man suggested. It is just dumb writing.

So, that is why i didn't choose "behavior" personally, because after i thougth about it logically, a lot of it is just too perposterous for Peter Parker to ever do if written in character based on the entirety of his life and life's lessons and internal drive of what he has always desired and the concerns he's always held: those concerns that make him the hero Spider Man always has been.

Behavior on a lot of fronts.

Whatever happened to the Peter who fought Ock during that Master Planner story? Who at the verge of giving up forced himself back to his feet, lifting that metal debris off his back, draining nearly every last bit of power from his body and still managed to kick the ass of Ock's goons?

Whatever happened to the Peter who crashed the Human Torch's party just for **** and giggles and then proceeded to provoke him and the entire Fantastic Four into a fight? He knew he didn't fit in with the rest of the superhero community and was just fine with that.

Whatever happened to the Peter that learned the responsibility that comes with being Spider-Man and more importantly, just a man, when his uncle Ben and Gwen were taken from him.

Whatever happened to the Peter who could beat the odds time and time again, not just with his fists but his mind.

Whatever happened to the Peter who never dared take the chance to reveal his secret identity to anyone? Not even his own Aunt May and Mary Jane, because he felt it was that important.

I wish I knew. These days most writers just make Peter into a bubbly goofball, an inexperienced moron, a dolt, that's more likely to make an ass out of himself than be of any use to anyone.

Because the Peter I remember would never cow tow to anyone if he didn't feel right about it.

And just for the record, Aunt May telling Peter to take the risk was idiotic considering Norman BURIED HER ALIVE!

you mean that ALL the changes aren't EQUALLY annoying?
everything (relatively) since Sins Past has sucked

unmasking for me hands down. While it WILL make some killer stories, i think thats it is by far the worst idea to have hit the spidey mythos for quite a while

i like the unmasking a little
i think that the stories that will follow are going to rock
and MJ and May are going to pay for Peter's complete stupidity

totally agreed eddie, i think the idea of the unmasking is great, but it is one of the founding ideas about the character. I think that changing that was a big side step for some really good ideas.

Sure, the unmasking is great for increasing some sales and for a fresh load of storylines...in some people's eyes....fine.

A lot of different various ideas could be come up with/written for shock value to increase sales and for more storyline opportunities. Doesn't mean Marvel's writers "should" write anything under the name of perposterous "change". And that it "could" happen.

When you are throwing the character under a bus to do it, and ignoring history and core characterization to achieve it, i personally don't see it (the storyline) as good. It just feels empty and cheap. A lame stunt.

Of course Aunt may and pete wouldn't EVER say SURE, LET"S UNMASK.....knowing all the harm it would cause and HAS in their past. Pete's never desired to tell even close friend(s), let alone a whole world full of nut jobs. Pete always WHACKED OUT mentally if even ONE of his enemies would find out his identity. This is a fact.

the unmasking is a lot better than Gwen getting knocked up by Norman Osbourne, or Peter "embracing his inner spider", or the Iron Spidey suit..

And this is the big difference for me.....hate the unmasking, like the unmasking.....no matter, the event at least had a purpose (whether you agree with it or not)......

...The "Other" and "Sins Past" had zero purpose....none, nadda, zip!!....the only accomplisment was the brutal and often times nonsensical destruction of well established characters.....in essence pissing on 40 years of Spidey history....

....for that reason, I'm amazed that anyone can put the "Unmasking" in the same category as the aforementioned cancers.....just my opinion

Organic webbing.

It was a good change in the movie but to just toss out the window something so unique as the webshooters was probably the dumbest decision. This is something that needs a seriously retcon, and BAD, because the story that gave him the organic webbing was easily forgettable. :spidey:

i know, i agree

but i'm still confused, aren't ALL of the recent changes equally annoying?
there should really be an all-of-the-above option

But the creator of the thread specifically wanted to know your opinion as to the worst.....list them from 10 to #1.....what's your number 1?...or better yet...if given the chance, which would you retcon first?

....the problem with the question in my opinion, is that there's been so much crap coming out of the Spidey titles, it's really hard to get your head around the worst of the worst....it's like walking back to your campsite to find 5 bears leaving it in tatters and wondering which bear did the most damage?.....does it really matter?

This is tough. I'll choose "other".

I think it's really the way he's handled as a character. We get a Peter Parker who is gullible, weak, and easily defeated by just about anyone. He's handled as an inexperienced noob over in New Avengers, he's Tony's Lap-Dog in ASM, his Uncle Ben has been brought back in FNSM (okay, I just really hate that crap), and his costume looks like a ******ed sixth-grader designed it. He's been unmasked, there are rumors that his wife's going to be killed off, and there doesn't look to be any sort of relief in sight.

The unmasking, despite the stupidity of the concept, DOES provide some interesting story ideas....but that well will run dry in no time. You can only have so many stories with that before you're left with a Spider-Man book devoid of any Peter Parker or supporting cast.

The stupid powers are pretty much ignored, so that doesn't annoy me anymore.

Over in ASM, he's changing his attitude towards Tony (finally). Also, if ASM wants my money, all they have to do is have an issdue where Peter b****-slaps Iron Man around for 22 pages....and WINS. I'll buy that.

Honestly, none of it annoys me as much anymore. I'm more or less indifferent to what happens in Spidey nowadays. Marvel's going to do what they want, and all I can do is not pay for stuff I don't like. They don't operate by what the fans think/want, and I can't blame them SOMETIMES, but so far, it seems like they're doing exactly what the majority of fans don't want, and the fans buy it anyways.

Either way, It'd take alot for me to dive back into 616 Spidey again.

Good to see you're still on your game Shin! :D

Stepping outside of debating quality for a moment, I know this has been said before but I'll say it here, one of the biggest failures of Joe Q in my opinion has been the lack of focus in Marvel. I know we're in the middle of Civil War, but in the past, its been like everyone's been running around like chicken with their heads cut off. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing and its made for some really head scratching moments. The organic webshooters is one of them.
