Reader Review : The Punisher : War Zone Script!
Date : November 19, 2007 Writer : Ramius
By Kent
The Punisher has always been my favorite comic book hero. He couldnt fly; he didnt have super powers, but what he lacked in style he made up for with sheer brutality. The comics were laced with pitch black humor and over the top violence. What also made this man interesting was the fact that he was a stones throw away from becoming a bad guy himself. Lucky for us, the Punisher was always on our side.
I enjoyed the 1989 version starring Dolph Lundgren that was shot in Sydney. Sure, it wasnt perfect but in comparison to the bigger budgeted 2004 version, it was friggin Titanic!!!
I know a lot of folks like the Tom Jane as Frank Castle version. I thought it was too soft.
This 100 page draft, written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, Kurt Sutter
Frank prowls the mean dark streets of New York and the character and the film will be much better for it.
Frank is played as a tragic figure, not a shut- in like Janes, but more like Mad Max in the Road Warrior. Hes cold, mean and unapologetic and hes got NO time for people. His relationship with Microchip is interesting. Wayne Knight from Seinfeld could be a real surprise in this. Hes not just some dumb sidekick for Frank. He has some neat little moments that provide reason behind why people like them would become vigilantes.
Sure, it doesnt feel wholly original, but it works in the context of the film and the character while these guys are doing all their fancy moves, Frank brings them down with a couple of grenades. A nice Punisher moment. And theres no Gods gonna sit this one out punchline. Phew!!!!!
Theres also several other core Punisher moments like gunbattles and explosions. In one particular nasty scene, a bad guy is blown up but remains intact or so we think. When he talks to one of his fellow scumbags, we discover hes got an armful of his own intestines. Nice!!!
If you were disappointed by the fact that the only real action scene in the 2004 version was the shootout at the end, prepare to be blown away. Every action sequence in this script is ten times better than that.

that's sound cool like it should be. except the sewer parts.
I hope the battle van is in there or some other kind of assualt vehicle.
do you know any thing on that shadowVoyd?
I just hope this punisher doesn't let someone sing and play a gutair
while frank sits there like a chump.
this script suggests if that sitution happen in this movie frank would do the right thing.
shoot the dude and continue eating his breakfast.

Yea, what the Hell was that about? And Frank let him go??? You know, now that I really think about it, that movie was dumb as Hell.

To my fellow hardcore action-nuts out there, put this with Rambo as one of 2008s must see pictures.
So you'd rather Frank risk innocent lives in the diner with a gunbattle or any kind of violence, when all the other man's done is play the guitar?
One shot is all frank would need!
what gun battle there's no gun in the other dudes hand he singing and mocking the death of his family!
you act like it was a crowded restarant it was him, the lame assasin, the 2 regects and the waitress. and they were at the counter far away!
That clip just made me puke! like it did in 2004!
I really love it when that asassin come up to frank and gets smart with him. get real when he came and got in his face the punisher would have put a fork in his eye!
one shot!!
that's all!![]()
If it works for the Ninja Turtles, it'll work for Frank.
I think the stuff about Frank having a daughter is dumb. I don't care if you're going for the closeness of the comics but it'll basically say "**** Thomas Jane and the first movie." Now, I am one of the few and the proud who loved both the theatrical and director's cut version of the 04' film and I don't want a reboot or a remake. This should be just what it is, a sequel. Otherwise, the script sounds good.
Yes, he didn't have a gun, it was a guy playing guitar, who was no threat what so ever to Frank, for all he knew it he's just some weirdo. And the lyrics to the song, do not mock the death of his family.
I can hear what you're thinking,
All your doubts and fears,
And if you look in my eyes, in time you'll find,
The reason I'm here.
And in time all things shall pass away,
In time, you may come back someday.
To live once more, or die once more,
But in time, your time will be no more.
Also, lay off the bold and learn proper grammer.
Is there a reason your text is that size? You're coming off as about ten years old.
Fine...Frank opens fire, Frank gets arrested for murder, Frank goes to jail.
Once again...all the other man did was play the guitar. That's it. Frank isn't justified in killing him at that point. At all. Even if he's pseudo-insane Punisher.
I rather they respect the actual source material then pay respects to a sub-par movie that felt itself in a position to tamper with established continuity and didn't even deliver a good movie as a result.

Or because they didn't have enough of a budget to even shoot in Canada let alone Central Park. And If they couldn't shoot the Kuwait opening for the first film, chances are very ****ing slim that they would be able to do a 'Nam flashback.Bubonic,
Right on point about the fanboys, it's because of Jane they nixed the Central Park angle (AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and not very many people complained about it. I'm sick of hearing about Jane, its because of his boyish looks and smile they altered the Punisher's origin. The Central Park massacre was the main reason that attracted me to the Punisher, not this eye for an eye crap flick. You could have a good Vietnam war flashback, and yes you can have ****ing BORN!!! On screen! Maybe this incarnation will make enough money to warrant a Born translation. You gotta admit (if done right) it could rival all the classics. Meh!
And he didn't care, chances are Joan, Bumpo or Dave would call the police if he killed him for just playing the guitar. In the original script the confrontation was more involved, but cut down because of $$$. The movie was ****ed budget wise.claydogg said:There is that better? do you guys read the comics at all?
do you think the punisher would have lasted 2 days in the New York
(not miami with MR C.) without being able to read a guys moves and have good street smarts.
that guy gets in his face and basically say I'm going to Kill you Castle!
