If you'd told him you were pressing charges against him as well unless he would agree to not press any on you, then wouldn't both of you not be charged? In Canada, because the store I get to buy into only needs $7500 to start. This a far cry of what is normally needed to start a business. Most businesses take at least $25 grand to start minimally.

Under Canadian law, the fact that you were defending yourself is no excuse. The law allows you to defend yourself to the point of stopping an attack, but even the slightest act outside that can get charges laid.

So being very personal and particularly vicious towards him is meant to prove what, then, exactly? That the people attacking him on that level also have some character flaws?
