Other than the fact that Canadian law is bizzare... the person assaulted doesn't have the right to press charges, and can be over-ridden by the homeowner? What if the homeowner was the one doing the assaulting... for example, a man beats his wife and he's the homeowner (her name isn't not the deed or mortgage)? It's an assault against a person not the home.

Anyway... aside from the bewildering nature of Canadian law... I really am speechless.

If you'd told him you were pressing charges against him as well unless he would agree to not press any on you, then wouldn't both of you not be charged? I think just about anyone would choose neither person getting charged over letting themselves be charged.
