Namco meets Capcom... again

I'll be sticking with Capcom's game as well, but it will be interesting to see Capcom's characters done by Namco.

SF vs. MK is the ultimate goal but this is pretty damn cool. Wow it seems like any crossover is possible these days.

I liked the Mortal Kombat games back in the day, but the appeal was the fatalities. In our YouTube era of one-click gratification, though, just having that doesn't cut it anymore. Even casual fighting games have to sport more solid framework. I'd rather see what Ed Boon and co. are doing with MK9 first than rush into a crossover with the Street Fighter universe.

On-topic: I'm incredibly hyped for Street Fighter X Tekken. I could never get into Tekken games too much since 3D fighters feel more limited in options, but I like the characters and some of the features Namco put in that series. What I've seen works great as a proof-of-concept. Plus, people who are getting all bogged up in Capcom oversaturating the market and SF vs. Tekken- are you forgetting the possibilities? Zangief arm wrestles bears, and Kuma is a bear. Fei vs. Law for the "who's the bigger Bruce Lee ripoff" award. Dee Jay vs. Eddie in a ganja smoke-off!

"My God! It's full of stars!"

Am I the only person who doesn't care at all to see a MK/SF crossover?

Anyway, trailer looks solid. I'm still iffy on this two games simultaneously release thing, but I'll probably only check out the Capcom developed one either way

I'm with ya on that one Tronne, MK as of recent has not been that great IMO, it seems like what MK lacks in flair, they replace with insane amounts of blood. Now, if it were to happen, I would definately want Capcom to do it, I dont want to see the SF characters made with the MK engine using dial-a-combos and stiff looking animations.

My problem with an MK VS SF is that in general the characters, just don't mesh at all in any sense like previous SF crossovers. In a MK vs SF game, it'd just be bizzare to see the Mortal Kombat characters kill the Street Fighter characters with their fatalities.

Which means chances are we'd end up with something like MK vs DC which was an alright fighter, but ultimately mediocre in the long run.

MK vs DC was just mediocre all the way, it just felt like another MK game. MK's only gimmick is the Fatalities, and throughout the years they went from cool to down right bizarre and uninspired. At least with SF, you've gotten more fluid gameplay and better new characters. From MK: DA on, they've thrown in an ass load of new characters who have irrelevant back stories and have no real appeal to them. Ed Boon just recently saw the error of that mistake which is why they wont appear in MK9.

And on top of that, Ed Boon churns out another MK every 2 years, IMO thats not enough time to come up with fresh ideas to keep the game feeling fresh every time a new one drops. Capcom took forever to release another SF, but when it finally came out, it was like a breath of fresh air that made you forget all about the SF Ex games. I think that Ed Boon should just take a break from MK and try developing some different games, it seems like MK is all that he has to offer.

SAN DIEGO, CA — July 24, 2010 — Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games today announced that Street Fighter X Tekken is in development for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®. The title will make history as fighters from these two bastions of the fighting genre come together for the very first time.

Utilizing the same technology that powered Street FighterTM IV & Super Street FighterTM IV, TekkenTM characters such as Kazuya Mishima and Nina Williams will make the transition into the Street FighterTM universe having been re-imagined using the much-loved art style of these seminal titles; while retaining their unique characteristics and signature moves as they go head-to-head with classic brawlers from the Street Fighter franchise in what promises to be the ultimate match up.

As in Street Fighter IV, 2D gameplay will feature fully realized 3D character models battling for domination in both new and familiar highly detailed environments that are brought to life with engaging animations. In addition to modes such as Versus and Training that will feature new enhancements to make the fighting experience more in-depth and enjoyable, Street Fighter X Tekken will include Tag Team combat where players select two fighters to deliver knockout assist attacks and special combos.

The announcement, which took place at Comic-Con in San Diego in front of thousands of Street Fighter fans, was made by the Producer of Street Fighter X Tekken, Yoshinori Ono, and Tekken series Director, Katsuhiro Harada. Commenting on the origins of this project Yoshinori Ono said: “This is history we're making. Two fighting games that have rivalled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn't just a showdown between Tekken and Street Fighter, but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai Games. So I'm going to give it my all.”

Well, I was a little more excited for the whole of Capcom fighting for the whole of Namco, but this makes sense. Only problem for me is that I really don't have much interest in any of the Tekken characters. It's all about Street Fighting for me

Yeah, I've never been able to muster up very much interest in any 3D fighters, with Tekken being one of the most uninteresting to me.

Anyway, in my eyes this looks like little more than Street Fighter IV With Tekken Dudes™ and I've sort of got my fighting game fix with SSFIV right now. So I'll definitely pass on this one.

:/ This looks like Street Fighter 4 with new skins

It's an alpha build ("Build 0," in fact). We won't see this out until 2012. Enough time between "then" and "now" for a lot to change.

I dont think that would have worked well bc Namco doesnt have a large assortment of characters like Capcom does. They have their 2 big fighters, Tekken and Soul Calibur and then what? Pacman, Klonoa and a bunch of obscure arcade titles from the 80s. Namco x Capacom from a few years ago was filled with a bunch of obscure unkown characters, most of which I dont think would translate well into a fighter. Its best they have this focused on Tekken bc these are their most popular and well known characters. Adding SC ones in there would have been great but I think they kept the limit to TK bc of the challenges that would have been faced trying to mesh the fighting mechanics of 3 different deep fighters into one game. Theres already going to be several compromises made with the 2 already in here, but to throw a third might unnecesarily complicate things for the Capcom developers

I'm a Tekken player but I might try out the one on the SF engine to see how it goes. Can't wait for this.

That's the main reason I want MK vs SF. To have Capcom working on it and finally get a decent MK game.

I don't want Street Fighter vs Tekken. I want a full on Capcom vs Namco, if for no other reason than the sake of Pacman in a fighting game.

Sure they do.
Pacman
Ms. Pacman
Rick from Splatterhouse (who wouldn't want to see Rick in a fighting game?)
Wild Dog (Time Crisis)
Jack Slate (Dead to Rights)
Mr. Driller from Dig Dug

Granted, about 10-12 of the characters would be Soul Calibur/Tekken characters but so what? A full on Capcom vs Namco would be worth it just to have the more obscure characters like Wild Dog, Slate, Pacman, Driller, and Rick as well as Soul Calibur characters. Why settle for a roster of Tekken's second rate characters when we could just have 5 or 6 of their A-listers and a bunch of other awesome characters?

Pacman and Ms. Pacman? Thats a waste of a slot and I cant imagine they'd be much different to warrant a slot. Im really not too familiar with the rest of those characters but I do know Splatterhouse is getting a revival. Still it would seem like Capcom vs Tekken/Soul Calibur. Maybe in a future game they can expand beyond that. After all the Capcom vs games started out as just being Xmen vs SF before expanding to other franchises in both companies libraries

I still say they are going the route they are bc they are aiming for a deep fighter. Its not meant to be the wild and crazy stuff from the MvC series or TvC. It would have to be if they put in the characters you suggested. I cant see Pacman or Mr. Digger translating well as a SFIV character or as one in Tekken 6

As much as I like SF, I still get enjoyment from MK. MK is an easier game, anyone can pick it up and play it, I'm not going to rip on it because of that. Some people just can't get into the more advanced SF or Tekken.

That's ok by me. MK is a game I play to just have fun and not be to serious about fighting.

I wish this would ignite a new cross-over game craze. We get the occasional Sonic & Mario game and the Capcom vs franchises, but I would love if more developers would make cross-overs. Just silly, fun games that make people go crazy and just give them geekgasms. The crowd went totally wild when they watched Ryu fight Kazuya.

And not just fighting games, but all sort of games. Anyone remember Robocop Vs Terminator? Revive this **** and now give us Robocop Vs Terminator Vs Predator. :awesome:

Ive found SF alot easier to get into. MK games seem to rely way to heavily on memorizing long strings of combos which are incredibly cheap. They've also been very unbalanced. I think SF has been more balanced and the fluid gameplay allows for more freedom and thus easier to beginners at least IMO.

IA. We are getting that of sorts with Sony's Heroes on the Move at least. Ive wanted to see Nate Drake and Lara Croft in a game together. It would be great if Square loaned her out to Sony to include in an Uncharted game. They could be after the same treasure and Nate crosses paths with Lara several times throughout the game. Uncharted's strength lies in combat whereas TR lies in exploration and level design. Im sure they could have some great ideas to share with each other.

Id Love a Capcom vs Shonen Jump Game

Or Capcom vs Konami :awesome:

You can't go too far with crossovers. Eventually, you'd lose what made the IPs interesting in the first place. But Street Fighter X Tekken makes sense financially. Both bring very heated discussions about fighting game interactivity, which further fuels interest in "settling the score." On a more obvious level, it's the biggest franchise in Japan vs. the biggest franchise in America, with two different games to profit off of. This is the best kind of crossover for any creator(s)- one that fuels the fans to "represent" without watering down the product and promises massive profit for the owners.
