Natalie Portman is JANE FOSTER!

I hope we don't get a Thor/Sif/Foster Love triangle :down

I'm happy with this casting.. takes a load off knowing she isn't Sif

Portman in Thor. I can dig it. Cannot say I have much faith in Hemsworth, but with Branagh at the helm and an already good cast surrounding him, I have faith in the project.

Hopefully Portman beat out Biel, and Biel isnt still up for another role. Shes nice to look at, but shes got a bit of a ways to go before Im confident in her projects.

biel was up for sif not foster

Feige said we wouldn't be

Foster could care for Thor after he's banished and (presumably) wounded. Blake doesn't necessarily have to be in it for Foster to be

The press release DID say the character would be updated, after all

I'm happy that Blake won't be in Thor. I've said from the beginning that I think it's a bad idea to have two different actors playing as Thor/Blake, and with the update we will only have Hemsworth playing both the Norse god and the human alter ego in the movie. It will allow Hemsworth to play all the meaty part of this role, not just the action part.

Btw, I'm very happy to have such a talented and beautiful actress as Natalie Portman playing the love interest of Thor. Although it'd be nice to have Lady Sif, but I think having a human (as opposed to goddess) as love interest will make the story more compelling.

Great to hear Portman's in.

The plot sounds like God of War meets Cloverfield, sounds very good.

No brainer than an acting talent like Portman wants to add a Branagh film to her already impressive resume.

Edit: I also think Blake will be in the film, but Hemsworth will play him. After all he needs a name that humans can refer to him by. Obviously "Thor" wouldn't work. I can still see him playing a crippled physician that has to deal with suffering/dying patients in a hospital.

I can definitely see Natalie as Jane. A way better character for her than an Asgardian warrior goddess.

I personally believe that Blake is just going to appear at the very end, and that's where he meets Jane.

Just how big would the role be though?

I see Portman coming only half way in, or a third of the way in, so I don't see it being a huge role. I wonder if they will even go back to Asgard for an extended period if the 2-3 Acts are mostly Earth based though, so it could be a big role.

All I can say is "Hellooooooo nurse!"

 :yellow:

I don't know enough about the Thor characters. But she's a good actor, so this film seems to be turning out well.

Jane Foster started out as a typical '60s love interest/attachment to the hero/occasional damsel-in-distress. She was Don Blake's nurse at his private practice. She grew over time to become a solid everywoman character and a confident, renowned doctor in her own right. So, basically, she's a normal woman in the medical field now.

This has probably been brought up before but maybe Donald Blake will be an alias for Thor while he is on Earth, instead of just a normal guy being changed into Thor. I don't know it might seem a little to far fetched but its a way to get both character's in there without casting two different actors.

That wouldn't really be Donald Blake to me. I'd prefer they just leave Blake's name out if they're not going to use the actual Blake character.

Make since, plus one of the producers said that Blake wasn't in the script at all. Maybe in possible sequals after the Avengers is done.

Producers lie... but I don't know how Thor learns humility if he isn't a human or a character with all the typical human characteristics. It may not look believable with a 6'3 muscular guy playing a crippled human being, but he doesn't have to be the Blake we all know. I am guessing if the producers aren't bull, maybe he'll just be this guy with amnesia that can't remember his name and has no legal identification. That would do away with Blake. But I can see why Marvel doesn't want two actors as it would be cheezy if the guy playing Blake disappears into a cloud and then comes out as He-Man or whatever. That's a turn off. I think it's best if he is some sort of doctor or physician on Earth though.

If they're gonna keep Hemsworth as the human/powerless version of Thor, I wouldn't mind if they made him a bit closer to Jake Olsen than Don Blake. You know, a younger, more athletic paramedic rather than a surgeon. That would allow him to see mortality up close, which I guess could inspire him toward a more human outlook on life.

I love Natalie Portman! She's great. I'm liking this cast so far, and if they get Biel too, this cast will be gold.

Now this is a casting choice I love. I was worried when she was rumored for Sif, but Jane Foster is a great match for her.:woot:

Nice cast, Portman is one of the most talented young actresses around!

If Jessica Biel will be really in this movie, I think she'll be Amora the Enchantress, a villain, not Sif, Jane Foster must be Thor's love interest.

Depends.
Why couldn't he be restricted to using a cane by some injury, but still be robust. Something on the idea of Dr House. Now he is not a Viking Thunder God, but he is not a 90 pound weakling either.

This is the first thing that has made me feel positive about this film since KB's announcement to direct many months ago. I don't know anything about the character, but Natalie Portman is never a bad thing.

Is Blake still used in the comics? The most I know from Thor comes from The Ultimates, where he was just Thor.

Ultimate Thor is pretty much nothing like the main version of Thor.

He lost his Don Blake persona in the '80s and just recently regained it, only Blake is a separate, sentient part of Thor now. There's a whole spiel about how gods and humans are two sides of the same coin that JMS came up with for it. Basically, Blake is now Thor's humanity given sentience.

Great casting. Lots of great comic casting lately, hopefully CC will have a big reveal. *cough*Cap*cough*
