Need of a Batman Next-Gen Game

How about a game based on the comics? Ultimate Spiderman was kinda fun and had great art direction, movie tie-in's for the most part suck balls.

I actually think the game Pandemic is working on is gonna be a stand alone Batman, not based on any movie.

Even if it's a stand alone....it's still a strange thing to see a developer NOT take advantage of the upcoming movie.

Sales get a massive bump up solely on a movie about the character coming out.

It's wierd to not see them take advantage of it knowing it'll equal more sales. Even if it's a stand alone game.

Well, if they are making a game based on Batman, they could be waiting for the DVD release being that at this stage the game isnt ready to be talked about, shown off. I dont know. LucasArts hasnt told us anything about the new Indy game they are working on, maybe when the DVD to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, draws near, we'll hear more about it.

Altho both, Indy and Batman have a Lego game coming out near their respective movie releases.

I mean like you, im a bit perplexed. If they have been working on a Batman game, its been for awhile, so why we havent heard anything, i dont know.

I thought Indy is in the same boat...and the only officially anounced game for him is also a Lego version?

Also, anybody see this:

Free TDK contact for XBOX LIVE:

It was also announced awhile back that TDK themed PS3s and XBOXs would be released. Kind of strange to have a TDK console and no TDK game to play on it.

I'm actually not so surpised with the Indy game, because there's been quite a few Indy games that have come out on they're own. I think LucasArts is so confident in they're Star Wars and Indiana Jones licenses that they don't care about when they release those.

I with alot of people here, in thinking that the game is probably going to come out with the DVD. And if it doesn't then we'll know that it's either not happening or that it's soely based on the comics.

And I don't mind them taking they're time, either. But, the game industry is all about hype.

And the only actual stuff to come out lately about Indy was the spilled beans from fired LucasArts emplyees. Other than that, and the preview trailer like 2 years ago and preview in GI...it's practically in the same boat as this project B.

I think well hear more on the Indy game after the release of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, which is probably one of Lucas Arts biggest titles to date. With the Indy game, we know its in development, unlike the Batman game which may or may not be in development, although if i had to wager a guess, id put quite alot on this "Project B" being a Batman title.

Ah, but Indy has had only one good 3D game (Infernal Machine on N64), so should they be so confident? :p Ah, after a new movie it'll sell like hot cakes.

I'm actually glad they're avoiding the movie tie-in. BB wasn't very good from what I've heard and most movie games suck if they're for new releases. The one exception I can think of is Spider-Man 1 and 2. NOw there have been some great games based on older movies, even if they forget the values of that movie (I'm looking at you Godfather), but those are more prestigious efforts. If you **** up Godfather, Scarface or Warriors too bad, you're in trouble.

A free roaming Batman sounds intriguing...but dificult. For that to work it'd have to be as immersive as GTA or at least the GTA copycats (again looking at you Godfather, as well as Sain'ts Row :p ). I'm not sure anyone will spend that much time on a superhero game.

i think a next-gen free-roam batman could be amazing. jumping from rooftop to rooftop, hiding in shadows, beatin' up thugs, driving the batmobile. i even think a detective element could work, i mean, and this could be a premature judgment, but Rockstar's LA Noire looks to be really interesting.

It's wierd to not see them take advantage of it knowing it'll equal more sales. Even if it's a stand alone game.

Liscenced Games... especially movie liscenced games, have crazy unmovable deadlines. Games made on these deadlines come out significantly unfinished. Developers get called lazy all the time, because they signed on for an uncontrollable unforgiving deadline. That's a bad idea if you're trying to make the perfect Batman game. The sales bump isn't even close to worth it.

It's not, but it's extremely tempting...knowing you've got a helluva sales bump in the bank already because of it.

I'd take the delays to high hell any day if it means a good game.

And I think this massive movement towards having a GTA-Batman has really made people hyper-critical of any Batman game that doesn't have free-roam. Batman Begins was a good game, but that game got needlessly hammered to high hell because it wasn't what people want from a Batman game.

And as for Indy...he might not have many good games, the last one that came out is supposedly the best to ever come out...I'm assuming they're confidence must stem from good sales. Otherwise, I couldn't see why they'd keep cracking that whip if people didn't keep buying it up.

Well, Indiana Jones is gonna be shown off at E3, so i wouldnt quite put it in the same boat with this "Project B"

You know...ive always thought while playing assassins creed.."i wish this were batman..it would be perfect" runnin the rooftops..stalking crooks/enemies...think about it.

I thought the same thing! Put Assasin's Creed and Spiderman2 in a blender, add cowel and you'd get a pretty cool Batman game.

But you have to admit, swinging around that big open city was fun, or not, I don't know you well enough to make that claim.

Spidey 2 was great.

And it's the reason everyone wants they're superhero to be tossed into free roam.

True. SM2 is hands down the best video game in the last ten years (PS2 generation and up). It is the reason every superhero game is either free roam or has fans complaining that it is not now (even though Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 show that perhaps Treyarch fluked with SM2). For 2004, the swinging, the boss fights and the humor all worked perfectly with just enough minigames and city missions to do and variety of building that the fact it was a 10-12 hour game and not GTA was okay.

But Spidey needs to step up into the next gen. but that is a different thread. I think Batman as free roam can work, yes and no. Again for it to really work it needs to be as deep as a GTA game and well developed, but that would take anywhere between 3-5 years. No way a developer will spend that much time on a licensed game. So, a reall ydeep level-based game may work better. If we get another half-assed free-roam superhero game fans are going to **** a chicken.

I'd love a Batman free roam but I'll take a linear Batman game if it means it'll be good.

A Spidey game needs to add Spider-Man's emotional pathos to a game, something that can't be done on a rushed liscence game, in order to get to 'the next level.' "More webbing" and "longer game" and even "more bosses" won't do it. The new 'Spectacular' cartoon is actually a pretty good model of storyline and boss fights, though.

As for Batman, I tend to agree, do 3-5 years or just do a linear. He's going to be limited anyway if you don't do the full 4 years, might as well choose how he's limited.

Anyone know how long Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was in development?

There was a behind the scenes video in the game and it said that they were developing UD for two years as opposed to one year for the original Hulk movie game.

Only 2 years? I'm impressed. It's the 2nd best superhero game to SM2.
