Need of a Batman Next-Gen Game

Not to sound desperate, but as publisher, does EA have the legal right to take Pandemic off the project and assign it to someone else...or finish it themselves? Has that ever happened before?

It's just hard to believe that a game being developed for as long as this one has would just get completely scrapped.

The last screenshot..either that´s Killer Croc, or Batman teams up with Marcus Phoenix to kick Locust´s butt :D

This may be the Batman game we've been all waiting for, I sure hope this one isnt crap. Shouldnt be that hard to make a good Batman game for the next gen, I like the way they gave his suit a more armored look:brucebat:

Unless WB actually was the one that pulled the plug on EA, they should have the rights to hand the project over to any studio they wish really. It sounds to me like they just decided to cut their losses and run though.

Sucks...that TDK won't get done.

I do blame them them for giving up though.

They should have kept going for it, I think. Tried to fix it. Most other, great games, get a great amount of development time. Batman should be no different.

I wish EA would just give Pandemic the time it needs to fix whatever problems there are. But if they don't, for whatever reason, and I know it would never happen, but I kinda wish that EA would come out with a press release that says:

"Look, we're not gonna lie to you. I know we said we weren't gonna release anymore crappy licensed games, but we're gonna release TDK due to popular demand. It's not great, hell, it may even be a little sucky...but it should hold you over till we get one right. And by the way...it's only $29.99."

...or something to that effect.

Everybody wins. EA gets to recoup their investment and save face by issuing a disclaimer. Fans are not lead to believe that the game is any better than the typical licensed game and only have to dish out half the price of a new title.

It might be the wrong attitude, but I'd honestly rather have a mediocre Dark Knight game than no game at all.

Sorry, I would rather have no game...especially when in about a year, we know that we'll be getting a real Batman game with hopefully quality behind it. Be patient.

i'm not too bummed because we will be getting a more darker and scarier Batman game

Iv never quite understood that thinking. If a Batman game were to come out of questionable quality, you'd recognize that and not purchase it. But someone out there might want a Batman game sooo bad that they dont care if the game is of questionable quality, purchase it and enjoy it. So why say you'd rather have no game, just dont purchase it. I saw the same statement with Fallout 3, someone said i rather them just not make Fallout 3 because its not gonna be like the others. Well then dont f'ing buy the game, let the others who do want another fallout.

Yup. I'd agree with that.

I'd add, though, that as long as they did put forth effort in the game...release it. If it's any good, we'll know. If not...we'll know.

And I can just pretend like the game doesn't exist, too. I do that all the time with Dark Tomorrow. It's like it never got made in my book.

The question isn't even about the release of TDK...but about them quitting on it.

I mean, let's be honest...Arkham Asylum could fall flat on it's face for all we know. The combat described SOUNDS repetitive and short handed...so it's got just as much a chance to fall flat as TDK had.

We're just being dazzled by the pretty pictures. For now.

Then again, Arkham Asylum is showing some promise as well. TDK might have...if we'd seen any pictures of it, maybe.

I mean, it's all relative.

TDK is getting released in theaters again in January...I wonder if this might give the game developers time to regroup and set up a new launch?

Or maybe i just need to let it go... :-(

Let it go.

All that would happen is that a week after the game launched, you would be here on the Hype declaring war on EA for releasing yet another crappy licensed game. :down

The hell I would. I'd love a 'great' game, but would be satisfied with a decent game.

Batman Begins was decent and I had a blast with it.

I understand the limitations that a big liscense creates for developers and don't expect a TDK game to be as good as GTA 4.

Yea, I'm with you. There are some gamers out there who only play those certain games that are critically acclaimed and loved by others, then there are those gamers who can enjoy a game when its not critically acclaimed and not loved by others. I'm in the latter. Ill play whatever, as long as i find it fun. I felt Batman Begins was pretty fun so i wouldn't be opposed to a Dark Knight game, if it turned out to be "mediocre" as long as the game was fun.

With that said, at this point, i highly, highly doubt we'll see a Dark Knight game and I'm looking forward to this Batman: Arkham Asylum, which at this point looks very promising.

They need to give developers more time to work on a game.

It's one of the reasons that I'm actually looking foward to Quantum of Solace.

They've had since before the release of Casino Royale to work on it. That seems like a good amount of time to get things done.

Although, of course, that's a different animal. A level based FPS is probably easier to build upon than a free-roam open Gotham City.

Go to the 9/3 Podcast. He's got the Editor in Chief of Game Informer Magazine on and they talk extensively about Arkham... and very enthusiastically at that.

Get this, the game is complete. It doesn't launch until August 2009 but Eidos is going to spend the next year polishing and perfecting it...and also working with DC for additional input. Sounds pretty damn promising.

To be honest, I wish the same time and money investment could have been put into the TDK game as well...especially considering it allegedly takes place after the film. Oh well, this one looks like it could be epic.

Spending a year polishing it? I'm liking that a lot :)

I'd rather play a complete, well thought out, relatively bug free game than some half arsed licensing attempt that plays like crud.

Odd. I havent heard about this any where else yet, so im a bit skeptical, however i wouldnt put it past EA to try and cash in on the Dark Knights success.

I say give Pandemic as much time as they want with it and release it when their done.

How interesting. Hopefully if they do release it, they at least made it playable. I think they may have missed the date to cash in on the movie though. Who knows though, superhero games sell well regardless.

But like Pat said, I haven't read this anywhere else.

What I hope happens is that EA ends up putting together a SOLID Batman game that DOESN'T ride directly on the hype of a movie release, and instead tries to make a game that sells on its own merits while pleasing fans of the movies. If EA does not make a post-TDK Batman game before the third movie, it's because they don't want to make a game that's good enough to sell without cashing in on a big movie release.
