New Constantine Movie?

I hope some of the supporting cast returns like Rachel Weisz, Djimon Hounsou, Peter Stormare, maybe even Tilda Swinton as Gabriel again. I assume Shia LaBeouf won't be.

Peter Stormare and Djimon Hounsou pretty much look the same as they did 17 years ago. Tilda Swinton’s character looking older isn’t a problem because Gabriel was disavowed and made mortal at the end of the first film. Rachel Weisz being in this film all depends on whether or not they can justify her presence in the story they’re trying to tell, though I guess you could apply that to any of the characters. But, yeah, count me as another one of those people that would really like to see Peter Stormare return as Lucifer. His presence in that little bit of screen time that he had made such an impact.

Like in my previous post, I’m really curious to see what the story for this one will be. Will it be adapting other comic book arcs like the first film, or will it be entirely original?

I've seen a number of fan posters where he has a cigarette. Guys, he quit smoking at the end of the first film.

I also don’t think he’s going to have the comic book accurate trenchcoat like a lot of people are hoping. It just doesn’t fit his version of the character. If he does have one, it’ll probably just be black or a really dark color.

I am also curious what he’s going to look like. Will he just look like he usually does nowadays, or will he have short hair and be clean-shaven like in the first film? Would be kind of nice to do some thing kind of in between, like having the short hair but with a goatee. Even more of a plus if the goatee is made to look a little more “devil-like”, as sort of a mockery.

He can keep the beard because it does make him look younger but maybe have shorter hair than usual.

In regards to JJ Abrams, while the quality of his directing usually varies, his work as a producer is usually pretty good or at least decent. As far as Goldman is concerned, he is 50/50 in terms of quality and execution. Sometimes, you get a Batman and Robin, other times you get a Strange New Worlds.

With Francis Lawrence coming back to direct, I am a lot more hopeful that this will be good. At least for me, he hasn’t made a bad film. Red Sparrow I can’t speak to, but all of his films that I’ve seen usually range from decent to genuinely great. He’s only gotten better as a director over the years, so I’m even more excited to see what he does with this with the experience he’s gained since directing the first Constantine. I am also hopeful that he’ll have a ton of input on the script and do rewrites with another writer, so I’m not as worried about Goldsman being attached.
OK I can see if you judge it by batman and robin and strange new worlds as 50/50. For me though using that same scale it would be 0 for both your examples. Didn't like Strange New Worlds. I won't go into here, there are lots of examples in that thread. I would just be repeating. But yeah if you like some of his work I can see your point in maybe liking this.

Yep got a soft spot for this movie so count me in for another for sure!

Zaslav looking at the response to this news:

Now give us Point Break 2, Johnny Mnemonic Rebooted, Return to the Lake House, and Another Walk in the Clouds.

Keanu is so hot right now. All of those sequels would be box office gold.

Keanu as Constantine was one of the worst CBM castings of all time but the internet gives it a free pass because people love Keanu. And now Zaslav gets to collect praise for killing off the promising HBO series and replacing it with a decades-too-late sequel to a mediocre movie.

Same here, love the first film so I'm pretty excited about the sequel.

Less so about Akiva Goldsman being brought on board.

In all sincerity, I legitimately thought the film was pretty universally dismissed. Like, you can't get a LESS grungy LESS British dude than Keanu. And Shia as Chaz? Stormare and Swinton were cool in their roles though.

What do y'all like about it?

The acting in the movie was solid, the action was effective, the storytelling and pacing were well executed.

Also the parallels between the secular world and the spiritual world were very well done. I loved how a hidden spiritual world was explored.

And lastly the third act was great.

The middle finger was classic. :hehe:

For me, I had never seen or read any of the comics so I had no preconceived notions ahead of time. Shia aside, the rest of the cast was fantastic. Androgynous angels? Loved it. Stormare as the devil was well done. I just loved it from one end to the other. If I had read the comics I might have felt differently. I didn't really know who Constantine was supposed to be until the TV show.

It’s an example of how you can be unfaithful to the comics and still be good. Just a really stylish and well-acted film with shots that are forever burned into my memory.
It's like they aren't even related. I can easily treat the movie and the show/ comics as two separate entities with very similar themes and enjoy both.

If they're stupid enough to bring back Shia as well... Then *Bane voice* You have my permission to rage.

You know what, y'all have convinced me to give it another chance. Only watched it once and was mostly just pissed about how wrong Keanu and Shia were in their roles. I'll add it to my '31 Nights of Halloween' list.
