Regarding April's profession, they should just split the difference and make her a scientific reporter. Like she handles the technology and science community-themed stuff for the news. Or she just reports for the stuff on the side with her actual job being in a lab.

Or since this is a new age the turtles are in....how about she works as a scientist and has a Youtube show or Blog where she reports news

Eh. I find it annoying when they try to put new age stuff in movies.

Though you wouldn't want it to be too much of a Mary Sue deal, I think she should be able to relate to each of the four guys because she's kind of like each of them in a way. She has a slight leadership streak like Leo, she's kind of a tech geek girl a la Don, she has a sarcastic quip or two per Raph, and she's into pop culture per Mike.

he didn't say to put new age stuff in it...he said since this is a new age pr new time line or new take on the turtles......

I would like April to be handled, like she was in the 2k3 cartoon. I really think she should just be a science whiz, and develop a close buddy relationship with Donnie. With both being nerds.

What? New Age? This is our Age...present time all that is going on..this is the nterent age....everyone in connected to the web....we are on youtube we are on various blog sites if april were alive today she would have a facebook and twitter and connected to the web via her iPhone/Andiod/Blackberry/Tablet/laptop

Its not inserting new age is presenting the Turtles Universe into today...because its not the 80's Or 90's anymore

I would still like her to be some kind of investigative reporter in some sense of the word

Here's an article from io9 with director Jonathan Liebesman speaking out on the recent the controversy. A very interesting part in particular:

"Look, it's so funny-if everyone was such a die-hard fan, they would know that the TCRI canisters where the ooze comes from. That is alien ooze. Now I'm not saying what Michael said is exactly what the movie is, because we're sitting in a room now figuring everything out."

And what he said matches up with this:

http://tmnt.wikia.com/wiki/Utrom
The Utroms were stranded on Earth and interacted with humans through the company, T.C.R.I.. They are responsible for creating and losing the canister of mutagen that transformed Splinter and the Turtles. When they were stranded, the Utroms contacted their homeworld. They were ordered to stay and observe humanity. Eventually, they were forced to leave Earth by teleporting to another world. They later returned and opened official relations with humans and other alien races.

Now, could this mean that Michael Bay saying the "alien race" thing was premature, and that they're possibly going with "alien ooze" angle?

Who knows at this point, but it's definitely interesting to speculate.

That's honestly why I'd prefer they not emphasize "our" tech too heavily, it'll just date the movie terribly. I think that's what makes certain films feel "timeless". I mean, I could watch DarkCity today and -- special effects not withstanding -- it's not "of" a particular decade or year. So I'd rather not have a scene with April updating her Facebook status or Tweeting about breaking news, because we'll groan at all of it in 5-10 years. Obviously you can't ignore it completely, but, any "modern" tech (meaning not just the usual sci-fi mumbo-jumbo pulled form someone's ass) should ideally be in the periphery, not given close-ups.

I know this isn't even up for discussion in a Michael Bay-produced, Nickelodeon-backed tent-pole filmed aimed at small children of action-figure-loving age, but hey, a man can dream.

If only she were given a chance, I would love to see Cassidy Freeman play April O'neil. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2336905/

Maybe Gemma Arterton could pull it off. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2605345/

Cassidy Freeman. S**t yes.

I live in a reality where she's probably too old for this film's demo, though. Shame. That is a godd*mn woman right there. They'll probably go with some ****ty-hot, barely-legal model-slash-actress and give her blocky glasses that she'll inevitably take off in each scene just to "nerd" her up a bit :woot:

I gotta say I never knew the ooze was alien , though that's from the comics and that angle wasn't in the versions of the characters the public at large knows best i.e. the TV shows and the films.

That said, the guys who've between them made Wraith of the Titans and The Transformers saga don't really give me enough confidence to say , "yeah this film is gonna be great!".

Then again , I've havent been into the turtles since I was a kid , and I wasn't planning on seeing the film anyway. However , his recent statements may calm those who are worried and to plan on seeing it.

I'm not saying she needs to be tweeng and FBing 24/7....what I'm saying is she could be an Internet reporter.....these days not many people get their news from TV...they get it from online...I dunno...just seems like a new approach that could work

Seems too much like a gimmick.

She should just be a regular reporter from a crappy network.

Kinda like...

Or really just being an investigative journalist. Not necessarily standing in front of a TV camera or uploading a story to her blog/site, but tracking down stories. You don't really need to focus on the "tools" for that, but obviously computing is ubiquitous in our age and so it'd be just as glaring as not seeing any tech. There's just a way to present those aspects as not to immediately scream "2012".

Anyway, that isn't exactly TMNT-specific issue, so this is probably off-topic. I just tend to cringe at "look at how cool our modern world is" scenes is most films now because it just doesn't help their bid for posteriety. Times change quick. No doubt though that this film will have lots of sponsers so tech (Apple, Nokia, Samsung, etc) as product placement isn't really avoidable. No biggie.

fringe does product placement without going overboard

True, but Fringe won't be a Michael-Bay produced, large-scale tentpole film backed by Nickelodeon that will exist as much to sell "stuff" as it will to tell an entertaining story. Kind of an apples-to-oranges thing.

Colbie so cute . As far as April's job goes, it would make sense if she were more of a blogger or someone who chases down stories as opposed to the TV Reporter thing which , although not out of style is very 80's . The funny thing is , that Donnie would probably be a hacker today. Lol.

Cobie would be a great April.

They say this will be released Christmas 2013, i really can't see it being ready by then, they still seem to be discussing the story according to Liebsman, Plus all the CGI it will need, i think it'll get pushed back to summer 2014. Just like they did with Star Trek 2.

Plus 2014 will mark their 30th anniversary.

I can almost bet $10 bucks that Michael Bay cast a so called "geek woman" as April such as Olivia Munn

Ok so for Splinter Voice:

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa

Hiroyuki Sanada

Hell Actually if Ken Wantabe isn't cast as Shredder Hiroyuki could also do very well in the role
