I do hope they go the "Hellboy"/"LoTR" route and do a blend. It seems to work well. Honestly I feel like actors give a better performance, and effects look better when something is really there!

i'm happy that bay knows we are all pissed though hopefully it will make him take a long hard look at what hes doing and actually work hard at making the movie good

I seriously don't think Bay is gonna do anything to change what he's envisioning for 'his' take on the turtles. I would be much more pleased if he wasn't a part of the project. I will say this, the guy can produce some fairly decent summer flicks, but TMNT to me is much more than that.

i'm not saying change anything but i just hope he does a good job unlike TF2 and TF3

Just read in the original comics the turtles were between 3 and 4 ft tall, hope they don't do that as its now possible with CGI, it'd look odd.

You missed my point. I wasn't talking about a good film making, what ever that is. (Bay makes fun summer fair but is cited as failing to make dramas. See reviews for 21 jump street to see the reverse of this in action).

I was talking about what happens to the cast when bay produces and i pointed to Nightmare. People might think the film worse then the original(both crappy to me) but last I checked Mara is an Oscar nominated actress was she not? Who's to say April won't be the same?

Laird is eating crow because, he made a statement on a hunch and its come to light that said hunch was wrong. There's more to the story and people need to wait and see before anything. Bay himself said take a chill pill, and wait and see. The truth is Laird had waited till this very week to speak up he would have sang a slightly different tune. Lesson of the day...obvious really.

If you call doubling down on his position in his most recent interview eating crow, then we clearly have different definitions of eating crow. Eating crow is admitting you're wrong , not further expressing how wrong you feels Bay is. If Laird had stated he was wrong it woulda been all over the place , and truth be told all the director stated was that the ooze was alien in the comics and that they were still banging out the story. There hasn't been any revelations that have discounted what Bay said or has turnned the tide of fanboy opinion.

Maybe his statements have put some at ease but having seen how these things usually go , I doubt its caused those who are complaining to admit they're wrong or stop , Laird included. Laird will eat crow once he gets a royalities check when the film makes a fortune. And that's assuming he hasn't given his rights away by now.

As for your point on the actors, I got it earlier. I was making a different point . I was making the point that you could have a cast made up of thesps and the film still would have stunk given the script and storytelling. Rooney Mara's a good actress but she can't make a bad script good.

I find it funny that 40 something % of fanboys said that they won't see the movie if the turtles are aliens on that poll on SHH's front page. What a load of horse ****, I'm sure a lot of them are still going to see the movie. Useless *****ing.

Why does it have to be someone's "take" on a property. Why can't we just get the property?

Except he directed those. ...And he's not the director here, as I am sure someone else has pointed out countless times already.

You need a healthy dose of comedy to make a property like this work on screen. It can't take itself too seriously.

With that being said, it should have a darker slant than the past movies.
I don't think they should go any darker than the 1990 movie's tone. IMHO the darker themes were almost perfectly balanced by the comedic elements.

I just watched it again yesterday, and some themes seemed a bit darker than I remembered. The Foot is depicted as a straight up cult populated by impressionable teenagers, something that's sadly not hard to imagine. After all, there is a bit of a parallel between how the movie Foot recruits and how real-life neo-Nazi groups, for example, use disturbed teenagers. When you get right down to it, the 1990 Foot are basically a lot like non-racist ninja Skinheads. That's a pretty dark theme for a family film. I don't know, do you think I'm way off with this analysis?

You mean like how the cartoon made it campy 60s Batman style? How Kevin Eastman and IDW made the Turtles reincarnations? How Laird made an Utrom Shredder?

I'll tell you why, because properties get old. Yes, yes, hard to believe, but eventually being served the same material over and over and over again becomes stale, dull and boring. The original material still remains captivating but having a remake of a remake of a remake of a remake can no longer pique interest. If; however, you add a new spin, a new take, it revitalizes a franchise for the masses.

Not saying this will be the right way, just answering your question.

Because a director is really an interpreter...they take a script or property and put their spin on it...Spielberg, Nolan, Burton, Cameron and Abrams all direct movies differently.
TDK is Nolan's take on Batman
Ironman is Fav's take on IM
Star Trek is JJ Abrams take on Star Trek

I dont take the fact that the movie is listed as "Ninja Turtles" on Bay's official site as a bad sign. Just about everyone I know just says Ninja Turtles in regards to them, its just faster and more convenient. Like you say "KFC" instead of "Kentucky Fried Chicken" lol

It wouldnt bother me if the OOZE was from alien origins, but NOT the turtles themselves!

Maybe TCRI discovered the ooze, that way it can be alien but still have the iconic TCRI container :D

The only thing that would make this even acceptable is if the ooze is alien(from the turtle home world) and a new set of turtles are sent to retrieve it but are too late and we get the real TMNT and Splinter... Kind of like a half pre-quel maybe.

At first glance, I have no desire to see this at all.

It's Ninja Turtles, I will see it even if they made Splinter a cat.

Laird and Fanboys lashed out at something they heard in the typical self entitled way. It's a producers job to be vague at this point in the press. It would be as if Nolan came out and said Catwoman won't be a villain, or rather Bane won't be a villain. A vague statement with many implications and the only thing one can truly do before having a (public) fit is to wait and see what is truly meant. AS I said earlier, the turtles aren't really mutants by most definitions and in District 9 the ooze did turn the protagonist into a member of an Alien race by the end of it. It's a slippery slop and a vague comment by a producer that obviously isn't the writing room the way he was say in his own genre productions isn't going to clarify anything.

My point about Laird is that if he had waited till this week to mutter his opinion it would have surely been different. And when you cross examine that with exactly what Bay said fans needed to do, you will find that one party is clearly in the wrong. As for his opinions on what he thought was going down, sure he's still as right as he want's to be about alien turtles by his definition. But, that's nice.(I happen to think anything can be written well given the right approach).

My point, just to clarify was that bay is more then capable of casting world class actors where the roles call for it as someone seemed to think was an impossibility. I pointed to Mara because she is the most recent example of a star in a bay produced film that isn't simply eye candy.

Of course you can, but I always find it funny when certain fans cry bloody murder about something they know they're going to watch anyways.

I doubt i'll see it... I mean, i've managed to never see any of the Transformers films despite having been a fan of the cartoons as a kid, and I feel like i'm better off for it :p Same applies here. I'd just rather watch the old cartoons.

Well I have respect for you as long as you stick to your guns.

I just think fans should wait a little longer to see some production art or a trailer before freaking out over the fact that they're going to be from outer space.

yeah fans overreact too much people already saying i am not seeing this and boycott and what not

and we dont even have a cast, any footage or a finished script
