I never liked Nolan's Bat-suits myself, but I think his Bat-films, especially The Dark Knight, has merit.

I know you're a Bay fan and that's fine, but did you wash your hands of him when he did 'Transformers 2' (I still think it's one of the worst movies he's done, and the worst tentpoles I've seen) then did superior Transformers 3?

if you watch the tutrle. the design. everything is in balance. nothing is to big or to small.nothing to bright or to dark.

Yea it looks designed and more to the point, like a guy in a well designed suit. Now go look at a real turtle, look at a baby turtle, look at a turtle over 100 years old...these suits look nothing like that.

This is all subjective, sadly having been brought up with one approach, the audience might not be open to something that actually might be "better".

I'm all for oversized shell designs. I watched pacific rim and I looked at the creature designs with the utmost creative open mind. I am to do the same here. Just make it interesting and engaged.

I was being half serious. TDK is one of my favorite films, but nolan's bat characterization really isn't for me.

More to the point I'm mostly speaking on the design aesthetic that I lost faith in nolan with. From his eye for fighting, to his eye for costume design. It stood out to me cause for years everyone and their mother called teh puffy suits lame and annoying, then BB came out and people acted like it wasn't the same or even worse than before.

Lastly, I just have it in my mind that there is a better way. Perhaps this is affecting my reception of such things. I think all they need to do is have a scene in which Fox(the guy with the bat brains), pelts up a wayne tech fabric, maybe a thin black latex material. They shoot this fabric with hollow points and a wide variety of caliber bullets and we learn that is super tough polymer stuff in movie talk, however it can't stand up to being cut by say knives due to the lack of kinetic energy involved. You then go on to make a more aesthetically pleasing and comic book accurate suit without having to put the actor in a suit that looks no different than the puffy stuff of lore. Plus when it comes to the ninja fights, you can still have a high sense of danger and cool suit damage...

I digress, we got the puffy suit under the disguise of real world. It really bothered me at the time but then heath showed up and all is well. Then in TDKR he mentioned that he's angry and I was finally satisfied.

Bay's made some bad choices here and there but nothing that compares to taking away Sherlocks intellect which is something that I personally seek out in batman. I do commend bay for making a hit film with no script. I also think everything before Prime died and after he came back was dope in TF2. They just lost the audience when they started with the aimless(no script) traveling and what not. Most directors need a solid script to make a hit film. There's room enough for all these films as far as I'm concerned. Which is why you rarely see me put a film down as hard as some of the bashing trains I see around there parts.

I watch some of these films with my 12 year old family and I see the same wonder in their eyes I'm sure people saw in mine back when I was young. I think that's great. I'm sure even back then people acted like the the wonder was lost in relation to their own childhood. We just gotta have a little more perspective and a little less self importance.

Absolutely no way there wasn't a good amount of kids losing their minds during various parts of the TF trilogy. I expect the same for the TMNT films. Whether or not the grown ups who enjoyed this when they were kids are happy, I say as I've always said. It's no longer for you. It's still for them.

Sometimes the old fans and the new fans can come together. I would agree that TMNT should be focused on bringing kids in, but that doesn't apply to every comic franchise. Not everything has to be dark and gritty and not everything has to be light and colorful either.

IMO, the best direction is the one that the current cartoon is using.

It has many of the very recognizable "camp" elements from the 87 series, but execute in a fashion thats darker and more along the lines of the Mirage comics.

It, like the 1990 movie, strikes a great balance between the two, creating something that fans of both the darker and lighter interpretations can get into.

The thing is when the original series aired, it's not like it generated a huge adult or even young adult audience. I just watched an ep of the 90's show and it's mad silly. Nothing like BTAS or SpideyTAS or that ilk.

The new show def is a step towards bridging the gap, however the point remains that it's the kids that actually fuel this stuff in the numbers department and toy sales. When that changes, I'm sure hollywood will follow suit.

While I am a little unhappy that we now have to wait longer to see the film (and in turn get any trailers/sneak peeks for it), I am happy that it has been moved out of the very crowded and very competitive May through July schedule.

ASM2, DOFP, Godzilla, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and TF4 all release within that stretch of time between the beginning of May and the beginning of July.

Compared to the relatively low key and still unpredictable GOTG, that would've been hell.

As you can see by looking at this year, August rarely has big hits. The studio obviously has very little faith in the movie competing in the proper Summer movie season. August is a "we don't think our movie can complete against other movies month." That doesn't mean that it's going to fail, anything is possible but it's not a great time to release movies you are expecting to do 200mil domestically.

I think Guardians of the Galaxy can buck the trend but Ninja Turtles? Good luck. I think it's possible it's pushed back to September when all is said and done.

It's going to do fine. If anything this is great news because that means its even more time for the cg. Which is what will be the make or break for this film. Guardians won't do great money either, I think it'll be close or just under Thor. Which was good but not great. TMNT will be the same if not more. Especially now with the huge hit of the new tv show and they have a few video games coming out this year. Nickelodeon made them cool again. I really look forward to this movie and I hope it is good.

I kind of agree. Watched the movie the other night and yeah I still love I but if i'm in that world there's no way I'm thinking wow that looks like a human sized turtle I'd be thinking why is that guy wearing a turtle costume. It is amazing what they were able to do with costume but at the same time eh I just don't buy it. Not to mention the way they handle the Shredder at the end of the movie just nothing but one long facepalm.

On top of the idiocy of trying to squeeze profits out of an overstuffed summer(see this june or late may), people just need to start migrating out of the the hot spots.
Secondly, I thought it was idiocy that paramount was knowingly letting their two biggest summer entries compete with each other in such a way. Summer can't be that be all end all for these studios.

As for guardians, I don't care how much good will Whedon has built for the marvel brand, that film is looking like the bigger brand version of that years pacific rim. At least give it a bigger star...
GoG might be a great film but a great spot and brand won't save it imo. I hope I'm wrong. Now it has Tmnt to deal with....

They do keep moving it and contining to move a movie means that the studio has very little faith in it. It would be something different if it always had the August release date but it has had two previous release dates.

I do think it's a good idea to spread films out in the overcrowded movie season but that still doesn't change the fact that this movie has a three slots. Personally I think TMNT screams March release date. Again do not be surprised if it ends coming out in September.

TMNT is going to need an awesomely killler trailer to hit 100mil domestically.

I doubt that. Again, if you look at EVERYTHING that is releasing during the time it was originally slated to release. And I mean EVERY DATE it has been slated in for 2014, it was just up against too much to be even moderately successful.

Maybe they are unhappy with what they've seen, but I doubt that is what influenced their decision to move it yet again.

I do fear though that the studio does have cold feet and the buzz about this movie hasn't been the best (you can read some of my comments in past threads). My friends and I still mock the whole Hollywood whitewashing of Shredder and casting is so-so if best. Set pics haven't been impressive either. I think it's time we see a teaser or pics of the Turtles at this point IMO.

I agree. It really does seem like they've been second guessing themselves alot since the rewrite. And yeah, rightfully so with some of their questionable decisions. Not necessarily bad ones, but very questionable.

And I disagree with you that the 2nd and 3rd moves for the release date were unneccesary.

They set a May 16 date, but then moved it to June 6th. That would be because they realized that it would be up against ASM2, which would likely still be going strong by then. Also, DOFP got moved to week the following.

Then, Edge of Tomorrow moved to the June 6th date.

So there are alot of factors that have influenced this decision.

Movies can overcome bad buzz (WWZ) but they often can't (The Lone Ranger and After Earth anyone?). The release date isn't the biggest problem though, it's the constant shifting of release date. It just shows a fundamental lack of confidence in the project.

It has nothing to do with nit picking nerds, I never took the project seriously but even I took it less seriously after Megan Fox came on board. She seems like a sweet girl when she isn't throwing shade at other actresses in interviews and she is certainly a more engaging on screen than Jessica Alba but choosing her as the female lead shows that the project doesn't know how to get buzz.

This isn't 2007, if the filmmakers wanted to get real buzz they wouldn't have choosen yesterday's "it girl" to lead the film. I know most of the selling of the film is going to be about the groundbreaking CGI and rightfully so but a buzzed about good young actress would have been nice. Fox is seen as a big joke by the general public at this point. It's decisions like that along with the constant release date shifts that make me have very faith in the film's box office prowess.

I still think the movie can eek out 100mil if all goes well but will that be enough to greenlight a sequel? The international numbers will be important. I'm guessing Guardians and TMNT will hurt eachother but I think TMNT will be hurt more. I'm not expecting record breaking numbers for Guardians but I think it could hit The Incredible Hulk type numbers. I'm really waiting to see how the Thor and Captain America sequels perform before predicting.
