I am all for ugly vamps, nuff said!

Edit: The Twilight films, would actually be very interesting if the vampires were deformed. It could be like a Beauty and the Beast type love story.

The way it was described in the books is much better. :o

Don't have any books on hand but they're sparkly like diamonds. It enhances their beauty, doesn't make them look like they pasted a layer of glitter goop skins. It was something interesting that didn't translate well.

I agree. The movies (particularly the first one where there was actually a glittery "noise", ugh) made it look cornier than is described in the book.

:word::up: I was at the midnight screening of Twilight and shook head with disappoint. :o

According to whom? If you look back at Vampire lore you'll see that Vampires were originally portrayed as Demonic looking monsters. In some cultures Vampires are described as looking like walking corpses.

Well actually the book says that when Vampires step into the sunlight they sparkled as if their body is covered in little bits of diamonds.

According to what the modern day vampire has come to be.

Yez, I guess I took what she described and made it a little bit nicer in my head. Sparkling like a diamond and sparkling like bits of diamond... eh, same difference to I. Don't remember much of the Twilight descriptions, mostly basing it off what was told in Eclipse.

I thought New Moon did the sparking pretty good. I liked Twilight's too, but it wasn't noticeable enough.

I thought he looked like he had a trail of sand on his chest in Twilight. It was way better in New Moon.

don't expect after new moon for Vampire movies or things in the future to follow involve any kind of sparkling day walkers....nothing to worry about...new moon hasn't ruined vampires for all of us...its one story based in fantasy with a huge following and nothing more. i wish i could reference in other movies or literature misuse of the common vampire we're all aware of but i can't right now...it was in another fantasy franchise where the vampires sucked not your blood but your energy...even though it is based on cryptic theory.

Most of the revered attributes of vampires and werewolves that everyone is complaining about her changing....weren't even created until the 30's and 40's. The writers frim the UNIVERSAL movies screwed with years and years of great mythology.

If we're gonna get technical about the vampire legend, they DID rise from the grave and feed off of blood from they're victims (mostly family members because the grave site was close by). They were dealt with by driving a stake through the heart while still in the coffin (so they didn't rise from the grave anymore), beheaded, mouth stuffed with garlic, and/or burning the body. They were believe to be possessed by a demon after the soul has left the body of the deceased.

If we're going by DRACULA legend (the original story that was written decades after the vampire lore was encountered), the "Bram Stoker's Dracula" movie from the early 90s did a pretty accurate translation from the books.

I mean come on fellas, if we're gonna "give credit" to the author for making a lot of money and creating a fan base from something so trite, you might as well give credit to the beastiality porn industry. (I'm referring to Twilight of course, not the Stoker vamps).

Right...I saw an episode of TORCHWOOD where the faries were anything but sparkly and sweet....they were big ugly murderous demons.

They probably had no glamour. Magical creatures like that need glamour to deceive their victims.

Saw it last night and liked it. The effects were way better that Twilight, the acting wasn't as obviously terrible and the cheeseball lines didn't hit you in the face this time around. Though Bella is extremely unlikable the entire movie. There's just no way to get behind any of the decisions she makes.

I think the fact that she is decisive is what makes her appealing to young teen girls: they can relate.

You mean according to Hollywood. They put out a lot of BS.

But even today some vampires put out by Hollywood aren't attractive. The vampires in 30 Days Of Night weren't good looking.

Not really.

Sorry, out of the loop...is the Twilight series just "Bram Stoker's O.C."?

Are you referring to Stoker's vampires?

Far from. Stoker's vamps are pretty badass for starters...

It was ok. My major problem with it was Bella and her over emoness. She is probably the worst part of the Twilight saga. And since all the books have been out since the first movies release I was really hoping they would show a "scene" from Breaking Dawn rather than the lolness that was Edward/Bella running in slow motion in the forest.

So basically, you can **** with years and years of great mythology?

Lol honestly though, I think it would have been a decent series if Bella and Edward werent so over the top and if the vamps didnt sparkle.

With some BIG changes, Bella not being a maniulative self destructive *****, the vampires didn't sparkled, but burned in the sun, if it was WELL WRITTEN, they didn't played baseball!!! and for god's sake didn't made it a metaphore of the disney tales, with the girls wanting to be Mrs. Cullen...:S

Actually in original vampire lore, Vampires didn't die in the sun, they were just weakened.

I don't see the problem with the Vampire baseball either. It's not really any different than let's say X-Men comics when they're playing baseball, or basketball, etc. and then their powers come into play.

Being an anime fan I treat the "Twilight" movies as live action adaptations of all the cliches found in anime/manga (which is often nowadays in the anime genre).

It has a lot in common with the ones that are really over the top. Handsome males (border line "beautiful" as Bella would say), stylish, brooding (in contrast with the happier male other interest) male leads, ridiculously self destructive romantic relationships, etc.

Vampire Knight

When seen like that these movies are actually pretty amusing to watch. Of course this won't work for everyone as some either dislike or have a complete indifference towards anime to begin with.

Yeah I dont see a problem with the baseball seen either.

And yeah, they didnt burn, but were weakened as you said. Thats still better than twinkling in the sun. If she didnt want the to burn, at least make them weaken or honestly, I would have prefered nothing to happen to them.

It had potential, but yeah, I think its just not very well written and some things kill it for me.

At least she kinda got the wolves right.

After that scene I was thinking the samething. But Alice couldn't really see the future that far (I think). Her foreshadowing is very limited.

Yeah. I know I'm sounding like a broken record, but Buffy was a far better developed character than Bella ever was. When Angel broke up with Buffy (and later on, Riley's break-up with Buffy), she took it hard but dealt with it more realistically than Bella did. And even when her ex's re-entered her life, she's on decent terms with them and moved on.

There's a bit of that in NM where Bella's on the rebound with Jacob, but it completely goes against it at the end where Bella's back to square one. In terms of plotting, it's frustrating. And again, Meyer's treatment of the vampire lore takes away most of the interesting aspects (sunlight burns/weakens them, aversion to holy objects) and replaces it with uninteresting new stuff (sparkling in the sunlight, et al).

Twilight owes a lot to Buffy, in broad terms.

Whocares about what owes what to what.

No matter how much whining the people that hate it do, the Twilight franchise is going to remain and huge success.

I'm fine with people hating things that I don't but there is some point when you should just get over it and move on.

I no longer hate it; the series is something I accept (and it does encourage reading, so that's a good thing). The franchise is going to stay strong up till Breaking Dawn, and even after that Summit is going to look for a way to make a fifth movie.

And Spidey, if you haven't seen Buffy yet -- Netflix it or borrow the DVDs from a friend. It has all the elements you love about the Twilight movie series.
