New Mutants New Mutants News and Discussion - Part 2

Probably Dark Phoenix since its a Kinberg film, but I predict The New Mutants is going to be more dull to watch.

OK so one of my friends who's fairly high on the chain at Fox called me up and told me the following:

He/she has heard of several contentious meetings at Fox in recent weeks, the the subject matter according to my friend being the possible fate of all of the remaining X-Films that have been on the slate. Word is these meetings have been quite heated at times, to the point of yelling. Apparently there are two camps, one wanting to see the release of Dark Phoenix & X-Force, while the other group wants to give Disney a clean slate to work with (possibly to gain favor with the Mouse) , suggesting the films be completely scrapped shortly after the announcement of the finalization of the Disney/Fox deal.

I honestly don't know what to think about this, as my friend wouldn't purposely lie to me, but there's always the possibility that they may have been lied to. I guess we shall see...

OK, question...

If they ate the cost of both New Mutants and Dark Phoenix and did not give it a theatrical release, is there some type of tax write-off they could use? I remember some time back, a studio did something similar, but the impression I got was that movie in questiondidn't cost nearly what these movies are said to cost.

Might be easier to use it for their streaming service or something.

Dark PhoeniX should be the final film IMO.

i thought disney and marvel were hanging on to new mutants, hence the reshoots and the idea of making it more superhero-ish

You are clearly weren't following Slugzilla's scoops. The film is delayed because allegedly its not good. Its basically a dull horror movie just with mutants and Disney doesn't want the film to be released... Allegedly. No one delays a movie18 months just to make it more superheroish.

are those updates even real?

you may have a point about the delays there. I think Fox/kinberg are trying to make everything cohere into one universe at the last minute. They seem to have shoehorned the prequel cast into the deadpool sequel and personally, deadpool is starting to feel sillier and closer to X-Men Apocalypse as opposed to X-Men 2, Days of Future Past or Logan or heck, even Deadpool 1. not sure I like the direction they're taking but I don't think they should make a universe where their classic films will be completely disconnected from their modern ones.

I have a hunch Fox believes that comic books have come such a long way that they can now adapt the X-Men's look onto the screen very literally and they are thinking, "oh, just dress up some guys in these outfits have 'em throw those poker cards around or scratch each other with their claws." What they need to do is adapt the characters' personalities, stories and arcs more literally, not the look. They don't even know how to make the look work anymore.

I think the report is true. Boone wanted a full horror movie but Fox wanted something more superhero and less scary. But after IT and the test screening, they decided to go full horror. Maybe that's the reason they got Manson for the soundtrack. The video is kind of creepy.

Please consider the following questions :

1. Why has the song been released over a year before the movie is scheduled for release?

2. If Fox delayed New Mutants so they could do reshoots to make it darker, as pretty much everyone aside from me has reported, why wouldn't they be saving this for the soundtrack?

3. How often does a song specifically recorded for a movie like this get officially released this early on?

Perhaps some of these questions will help you to better understand exactly what the fate of this movie will be.

some users will quickly find an excuse, saying Fox gave Manson permission so the song would start creating hype or something :funny:
maybe it was Kinberg's clever idea and all, lol. He's so clever, u know

in the cut you saw was it actually in the movie?

So if another director named Josh tries to tackle a Marvel property, we should all run the other way?

Yes, flee in terror or disgust, your choice. Though I'm quite confident that the rare & horrifying creature known as BooneTrankalips will never rear it's hideous head in the Marvel universe again.

What’s wrong with Boone? aren’t xmen fans supposed to be a little more tolerant of new weird things? I actuallt liked seeing a new take on mutants from Fox, their xmen stuff gets very repetitive, they need a sci-fi and writing boost with the main installments. Something after Logan.

I have nothing against Boone at all. I don't have enough information to truly judge. If the movie is released, then I can judge that and try and figure out how much he is responsible for.

Slugzilla claims to have insider knowledge and that information gives him a low opinion of Boone. He's either full of crap or in a position to truly judge him that we are not.

I have info from another source, a third person, and this source actually speaks very well about Boone and bad about Fox and specially Kinberg, that was quite demanding with Boone during pre-production. So who knows....

Im 100% sure Boone is not the biggest flaw of this movie. We all know Fox's history, so...
