New Mutants New Mutants News and Discussion - Part 2

Oh Lockheed. If that doesn't look low budget..

Still not my preferred take on the characters, but much more excited with this trailer than the first. Optimistic I'd say compared to before.

Really good trailer for what I suspect will ultimately be a perfectly okay movie that would fare better on Hulu.

I’m rooting for it but keeping my expectations in check.

This looks DOPE! Magik looks awesome.

It does look dope, and personally I would love if it was a starting point for the new X-Men franchise, with the characters escaping and eventually meeting the new X-Men. But I think Disney will do what they usually do and just ignore everything and do their own take.

The latest trailer does look better I have to admit. Which makes me wonder what they would do if the film were a hit. In any case a follow on would have to account for the actors being a noticably older and you have to wonder the state of a sequel clause under new ownership and in a new cinematic universe. I doubt they could be compelled to do a Disney+ series because there was no accounting for that at the time.

ah guys... tell me this is a typo right or did Disney just spoil something that hasn't been announced yet?

If that’s not a typo then I guess Kevin Feige must of liked what he saw in the movie then. I guess we’ll see.

I hope it’s not a typo but there have been rumors for a while of TNM joining the MCU. Feige apparently is one of those who pushed for Josh’s original cut to be released. Possible he might also add back footage that Fox forced him to cut.

This would be such an easy opportunity to introduce isolated mutants in the MCU, Wandavision could also maybe help with that. Also, the Fox X-Men universe references were cut from recent test screenings.

New Mutants looks good, and I’d be fine if they retconned it into the MCU if the quality of the movie ends up living up to the new trailer but at the same time I like the fact this is a standalone movie with no connections to a wider universe and much prefer if the movie wasn’t part of the MCU at all.

Frankly, the chances of this actually being part of the MCU are practically zero. The only leftovers from Fox Feige is likely to retain for his universe is The-Merc-With-The-Mouth - everything else I believe will get a complete do-over. DP is flexible continuity wise that you can get away with it, and do a soft reboot of the DP character all while retaining the same actor and feel. New Mutants is a different story altogether, and I think Feige would not be interested in carrying this version of those characters into his universe.

Edit: I see this has been corrected. False alarm. Carry on!

It will be interesting to see what happens if this becomes a big hit though. Probably not much, but I bet they will consider things more.

I doubt much. But hopefully it'll inspire more horror takes on the SH genre

I also doubt that this will be a hit, but we'll see

The fact is, none of us can say with ABSOLUTE certainty that this won’t join the MCU. If (and the trailer is very popular) it does well, then all bets are off. I’m sure psylock will disagree as he always does and ***** and moan though.

Is it, tho? Most of the people I've seen talking about it are X-Men fans. The trailer doesn't even have 10 million views yet..

The MCU should introduce it's own versions of Bobby, Dani, Rahne, Illyana and Sam in the future. These are legacy characters and the X-Men have not even been established yet in the MCU.

If this was in mcu, marvel/disney would promote it like they do it with their own.
so far there is no big push from them. I mean.. no push at all.
and that says all.

If this makes money, they will continue it. Some people really think they live in a world where companies care about anything but money.

I've read Disney slightly tweaked it to fit their lens a bit more in a subtle way per Sienkowitz.

In either case, I feel this movie is getting a slight push due to the screenings and the film maker and Sienkowitz giving a positive regard to recently. That being said, I also don't feel like it will be a huge hit (it's not like it's getting a huge push by Disney) and will be a telegraphed way to promote how Disney/Fiege's way is the only way.

They didn't call Noah Hawley and enlist his talents because like he's just alluded to, his Feigeness has a plan for everything. :whatever:

Great way Mr. Iger crapped on Fox after buying them at this Summer's investment conference too. Subtle PR manipulation at it's finest. Glad that he has no plans at running for President. Alan Horn (likes dopey movies as alluded to in the chairman meetup interview done months ago) and him hopefully will retire soon then someone can put Feigioso in his proper place for once.

Kathleen Kennedy's remark about a month ago saying Marvel's had success due to all the comic books is like his Feigeness saying Star War's movies do well as a lot of books and fan material to draw from.:o The obvious point being Kathleen Kennedy's remark was oblivious to the fact they had so much material they could've drawn from publishing or other areas content wise but didn't. kevin obviously has a lot of comic material to draw from but he obviously just lets people go to work then waters it down and cookie cutters it onto the theatrical assembly line.

I never was a fan of Marvel Studio's approach totally ignoring anything Marvel Studio's related from 2008-2015 but watched a few due to Netflix in 2015 while watching some more (not every movie) since then. As things snowballed over the last few years with so much content being funneled by Disney through all the major media outlets (see front page on Yahoo all the time amidst other places) along with the break from the committee my curiosity finally went up a few years ago until the Fox purchase when I knew competition was going downhill. The widely assumed risk (although now I'm guessing a calculated move to have another well known card up their sleeve as fallback) of Marvel Studio's doing lesser known projects made me wonder how everything would end last year.

Frankly, not only was Endgame socially insulting (can't just snap fingers and not cause many deaths all over again not to mention economics or people out of jobs or other issues) but the news cycles have been getting increasingly annoying to a boiling point these past few months where all prior annoyances for me have snowballed. Yeah, I probably shouldn't be posting here but reading some of the stuff on CBM compels me to so.
