New Mutants New Mutants News and Discussion - Part 2

I have info from another source, a third person, and this source actually speaks very well about Boone and bad about Fox and specially Kinberg, that was quite demanding with Boone during pre-production. So who knows....

Im 100% sure Boone is not the biggest flaw of this movie. We all know Fox's history, so...

As I have said before, both Fox & Boone are responsible for this debacle. Every bad decision made by Boone was fully endorsed and supported by the fox hierarchy.

There were some of us nobody's who were actively involved in trying to warn both Fox & Boone that they were going in the wrong direction with the movie, but we were mostly ignored. Some of us were punished, some even fired for expressing our concerns.

Finally the execs recognized their mistakes after seeing Boone's cut. They were faced with two options, release the Boone cut and face yet another embarrassing pr disaster like Fant4stic, or delay, delay, delay in an attempt to salvage the movie, keeping Boone as the "director" (in name only, basically to save face) and bring in some new blood under the cover of night and essentially reshoot over half of the movie.

Fox picked the latter of the two options and IMO uncharacteristically made what what seemed like a good faith effort to fix their mistakes. During this process things became complicated by Disney deal, and then suddenly progress just stopped.

Then the various rumors started flying around the crew & others and here we are today, with things dead in the water.

Fox and Kinberg, you know, the main producer and overseer of this universe. He accepted this approach, so he's to blame too. He even was in part responsible for some of the casting choices, the controverial ones at least, if source is right. Not surprised, he doesnt give a damm about minorities. His actual scripts speak volume

Absolutely, Simon shares the blame as much as anyone else.
I will say this about the casting choices that were controversial, those actors both did an excellent job with what they had to work with. Especially Zaga, he WAS Roberto, I don't think anyone could've done better in that role. But you are entirely correct that Fox had no particular interest in a more diverse cast for this picture.

OK so one of my friends who's fairly high on the chain at Fox called me up and told me the following:

He/she has heard of several contentious meetings at Fox in recent weeks, the the subject matter according to my friend being the possible fate of all of the remaining X-Films that have been on the slate. Word is these meetings have been quite heated at times, to the point of yelling. Apparently there are two camps, one wanting to see the release of Dark Phoenix & X-Force, while the other group wants to give Disney a clean slate to work with (possibly to gain favor with the Mouse) , suggesting the films be completely scrapped shortly after the announcement of the finalization of the Disney/Fox deal.

I honestly don't know what to think about this, as my friend wouldn't purposely lie to me, but there's always the possibility that they may have been lied to. I guess we shall see...

Well with that in mind...

It doesn’t sound like either movie is that far with things like effects (maybe greyscale?) and reshoots haven’t happened yet. Maybe they are thinking before sinking more money in to finish it, this may be a good spot for both of them to just be scrapped and written off? I dunno about this stuff, I work in a lab so this isn’t my area. Like do YOU think they spent 180M on Dark Phoenix right now? How far invested are they in New Mutants?

Why do you have such a hate b*ner for Boone? Did he fire you? You hinted as much but that would make you an unreliable source since you hold animosity. You are just really hard on him dude.

No I was never fired. But some people that didn't deserve it were. My animosity is multifaceted so to say. I have personally witnessed Boone belittle and treat people like garbage, literally just tear them down with verbal abuse. The guy abused his power and that really irked me. Most of the time he seems like a nice guy, but make no mistake when he's in a mood or cranky or whatever the f it is, he's a ruthless prick. Not to mention that he completely changed everything about the project that we had been working on for a few years on a whim, because he wanted to make a horror movie. Beyond that, in many ways it seems to me that he's essentially responsible for the fact that in all probability we will have to wait another 20 plus years before we see a real New Mutants film.

I think that about covers it all.

What are the odds this movie gets sold to premiere on Netflix at this point?

Not likely considering Disney is going to have their own streaming service. This could be one of the films held back to debut there if this doesnt make it to theaters

Everything I'm hearing suggests that Disney wants a clean slate and as much distance and time as possible in between their X-Men product & Fox's. I don't think Disney wants to risk allowing this movie to leave a bad taste in the mouths of users on their streaming service. Especially before they put out their first X-Film.

Exactly. Maybe there are characters that Feige wants to use at some point that haven't been on screen yet. Why waste them here.

But would Disney really want to have this movie out there and dilute the Marvel brand now that they own the characters?

thats why it would be on their streaming service and not in theaters

I wonder how complete DP and NM really are, because if they really are that horrible, I would not put anymore money in them (heck, maybe they really have not been for awhile now, I don’t know how that works) and I would write them off.

Fantastic Four, Xmen and Spiderman always had the marvel logo on it though, even Stan Lee cameos. I think they should release it as the last of Fox's X-Men and recast everyone for Marvel's version of X-Men/F4 just to be safe and start on a new page.

A lot of these actors could very well end up with new roles in the MCU. I personally didn't like the way Oscar Isaac was treated with Apocalypse.

Had the chance to speak with a friend far higher on the food chain than me at Fox over the weekend, and they clarified what they had told me about a couple weeks back regarding the upcoming X-Films.

According to my friend New Mutants & Dark Phoenix are both doa. Neither will see theatrical release. They have daily access to some Fox execs, I trust this person and it fits with everything else I've been hearing, so I'm confident in saying that both movies are effectively cancelled. She said Disney wants a clean slate & that the Mouse has told the Fox to shelve all planned releases. They said its a possibility that these two movies could see release on some streaming/television/Bluray platform years from now, but only after Disney has fully developed it's own X-Men Universe. Apparently the X-Force movie is still on the table, but it will likely be released under a title like "Deadpool 3: X-Force" or something along those lines rather than simply X-Force.

I expect an announcement to that effect to come sometime soon after the Fox/Disney deal is made "official" in a just a few days I believe.

Dark Phoenix is for sure being released.i doubt it'll be good but it'll be released

And what are we basing New Mutants not getting released on?

I hope this is all true! :woot:

well...... inside word?
this user has already explained his situation/connection to the movie. you either believe him or not.

but the answer to your question is there on the last 5 pages or so :cwink:

If we just suddenly stop hearing dark Phoenix news then we know.

Release them straight to DVd and YouTube.

Work has been nuts, haven't been able to check the boards like I would like, but it seems we really don't have any new news, eh?

There are news. People just choose not to believe them.

Anya Taylor-Joy on #NewMutants: The movie will come out and people will be excited about it. But I can't say anything else about it.
