New Mutants New Mutants News and Discussion - Part 2

I’ll be damned, they released a new and good trailer. Magik looks very cool.

But for real, say this movie actually takes off at the box office and becomes a sleeper hit. I doubt Disney is gonna ignore the fans wanting more so what would they do? Just say this is one universe in the Multiverse of MCU Madness?

Yo...this is looking alright

Some very standard horror trailer tropes and horror tropes in general. But idk, we've never really seen that in the SH genre. At least not recently/since Raimi. And I doubt we'll see those anytime soon anywhere else

Looks like a tv movie. Anyway, can't wait that the final foX Marvel is gonna be released, so the X-Men Marvel Studios era will finally begin.

I mean, it's definitely different but hey...Joker was different.

It won't get a sequel.

The movie is not a mcu film. And if they think they could absorb this into the mcu, theyare not gonna wait for Box office numbers and just sell it as a mcu film eXpecially they already acquired foX last year.

It looks much more like the first trailer than I expect. It's not promoted like a typical superhero movie, but let's be honest, it wouldn't succeed if it did. They're hoping to reach the "IT" and "Conjuring" crowd instead. It'll be interesting to see if they succeed.

VFX is alright, but not like particularly great. Cannonball is the worst here.

I like this movie will be a stand-alone movie with no previous ties to anything. Those are becoming increasingly rare nowadays. Much like Dark Phoenix before it, this movie is more or less a lame duck and that’s fine. This trailer makes the movie look dynamic and interesting enough that it’s possible the movie can be a modest success(if it’s good that is).

Illyana definitely wins this trailer both character-wise, but especially through her power display at the end.

True, but really, that's what I enjoy about it the most. Like other X-Men stuff like Logan or Legion, they aren't marketed as your typical comic adaptation, but that with a twist of another genre.

Yeah, that wasn't really a criticism. I think if superhero movies want to survive, they'll have to change and adapt. Otherwise, they'll just get stale and same-y. Logan and Legion are both great examples of going "beyond traditional superhero movies".

And that's a good thing to me. Even if this turns out bad, I like that some are trying different things in the genre. Unfortunately this will be a one off and the DCEU and MCU don't seem to want to broaden the genre's horizons that much

I'd throw Deadpool on there too. Kinda played with the tone and for sure the structure of most SH movies

I still hold out hope for WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as well.

To add one more, and this thought came to me even more when watching the Golden Globes, I'd add Joker as well. It's not X-Men sure and one can hardly even call it a comic book or superhero movie, but it's an example of the genre evolving and changing. After all, if all of these comic book adaptations, whether TV or film, felt exactly the same, there'd be no point in watching them. It's why stuff like The Boys or Watchmen feel like a breath of fresh air, and hopefully that applies to other future adaptations like Locke & Key.

The MCU not so much. DC, on the other side, IS broadening the concept of comic book adaptations.

Aldo, this doesn't look like a TV movie AT ALL. And with Peter Deming as DoP, I would've bene surprised if It did.

Legixn didn't even do well with tv ratings.

But yeah, luckily Eternals, Shang-Chi, Black Widow don't seem to be traditional superhero movies just like Endgame, Black Panther, Thor Ragnarok and Doctor Strange.

We were talking quality, not quantity. High ratings are not necessarily indicative of high quality. Plus, the show did well enough to be renewed twice, so the people at FX didn't seem to mind.

This is a huge stretch when I say this, and it hardly counts because they're not MCU-proper and on TV, but I think that Daredevil and at least the first season of Jessica Jones did help broaden things as far as adaptations on television. But again, since that's Marvel/Netflix and not Marvel Studios proper, I could just as easily take that back since those may not count as much.

Well you talked about survival. Low viewership isn't it.

True true. I forgot about Joker

Ignore them. They're just trolling and have issues

Joker and Watchmen are also excellent examples.

I was more talking about films rather than TV. Because TV for the last decade or so is a bit more experimental than most films in general. But yeah TV is definitely more of a playground

Yeah, I think superhero TV definitely has a leg up on the movies right now when it comes to more experimental ideas. Guess that makes sense though. There's less money at stake. In the end, I think it's inevitable that we'll get more diverse superhero movies though. Studios won't have much of a choice with the current pace of new releases.

Well what did you think when Marvel Studios greenlit Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Shang-Chi, Eternals, Captain Marvel and Blade? I think a studio like Marvel Studio don't need to be reminded of that though.

Also since we are mentioning recent cb films, Dark PhoeniX came from the same regime that greenlit/oversee this movie, Logan, Deadpool and Legixn.
