New Superman Retuns: TMG interview.

Here are singer's comments:

http://www.**************.com/news/articles/2885.asp

"In my personal estimation I felt it was an issue with the marketing," Singer said. "You've got a dense summer and you're resurrecting a character. There's a different kind of approach you've got to take when you bring in something new. Even though he's Superman and the character is ubiquitous, a Superman movie is a very new thing and it has to be presented in a new way. So a lot of that burden falls on the kind of presentation it is given."

Not really. It's just because you are on the ''omg x3 suxxorz'' bandwagon/quote]

Or have you ever heard of something called an opinion Just because you did not like it does not mean no one else will

Bryan Singer received a variety of responses at the San Diego Comic-Con. From fans at panels to journalists asking him questions, everyone seemed to have an opinion they wanted to offer to him personally. I got a chance to talk with Singer for four minutes and 11 seconds.

Newsarama: Superman Returns of course, will make plenty of money. The DVD is going to be monstrous. But it seems it’s not as successful as everyone wanted it to be or as successful as people wanted it to be.

Bryan Singer: Domestically. Internationally it has so far exceeded our expectations. I was personally surprised because it is an American superhero. Compared to my experiences with the X-Men movies I feel disproportioned. The strangest surprise has definitely been the international gross.

NRAMA: What happened in America?

BS: In my personal estimation I felt it was an issue with the marketing. You’ve got a dense summer and you’re resurrecting a character. There’s a different kind of approach you’ve got to take when you bring in something new. Even though he’s Superman and the character is ubiquitous, a Superman movie is a very new thing and it has to be presented in a new way. So a lot of that burden falls on the kind of presentation it is given.

NRAMA: I was really surprised that the plot of Superman Returns mirrored the plot of Donner’s Superman movie so much.

BS: It takes you on the same journey that the original one did but as an adult which was quite intentional. Right down to him sinking in the water. It is not remaking the first one but I wanted to take the audience on the same kind of journey as the first one but with a mature guy who’s going through a dilemma that wasn’t in the first one. It’s in the marketing. I don’t know how to specifically qualify but it has to be understood how to present something that hasn’t been around for a while. The last Superman, Superman IV, in its American release made 15 million dollars. It is still something new and it has to be launched on the flip side of the other movies of its ilk.

NRAMA: After he gave up his powers in Superman II, Lois and Superman slept together. I’m going to assume that that’s when he got her pregnant…

BS: Possibly.

NRAMA: Then he gives her the kiss, which made her forget that they even slept together. Was the pregnancy a mystery for her?

BS: I ignored that part. I just assumed she remembered sleeping with him.

I was last on the previous page, so I don't know who saw it, so I thought I would repost the whole interview. Thanks for being on top of it though Horrorfan.

Horrorfan if you want to bash Superman Returns there are plenty of places in the Superman Returns Boards to do it. This is the Video Game Board & this thread is for the Superman Returns VIDEO GAME. Please take the bashing to the proper place

Getting back to the game though, one thing that makes me happy is that we get to play Bizzarro...yay.

I didn't see all of it so thanks. Is it me or is it more than a little strange that he claims it has surpassed international and domestic expectations, yet then seems to blame marketing on a poor showing? That is a mixed message if I ever saw one.

I never actually bashed superman by the way. I just said you will be waiting for a long time for a sequel...even Singer said a sequel at the moment is ''iffy'', according to another article I ran across on google. I didn't say it was a ****ty movie till whf brought up sr vs x men.

Like I say, I loved van helsing, but is it bashing it to say a sequel probably wont be coming? No.

Im sure whf and spidey know their stuff when it comes to aspects of gaming, but the movie world is a different beast. Its common knowledge in most circles that Studios want movies to go straight into profit, and if not right away, at least domestically within a week or two.I am NOT bashing the movie. I wish some of you will understand that saying a sequel is not forthcoming is not the same thing as bashing it.

He said it surpassed International, not Domestic, if you actually read the article.

It's ok Horror, I didn't think you were bashing it, just like I don't judge people who liked X3, it just wasn't my cup of tea. As it was, I was the only person in the group that went to see the movie that didn't like it.

Oh well, that's why we are individuals.:O

Was Van Helsing really that good, I didn't even bother to see it. Was it worth it?

BTW, I thought it was funny he made a sequal, and admitted to purposefully ignoring continuity from the last movie. :O

and i can kind of see what singer's saying about the marketing, but i don't think that he has to make excuses... he made an awesome movie, it just underperformed. it's not like it did badly at the box office, just not as much as everyone thought it would. once the dvd comes out, and everyone who didn't see it in the theatres buys a copy, it'll be fine $ wise.

the vampire girls were hot, sure, but the acting was SO bad. nearly every time they spoke i wanted to punch myself in the genitals just to take my mind off of it.

actually.... alot of the movie was like that for me, come to think of it.

I wana play this game so bad, it's hurting me

I like to play Poison's "Every rose has its thorn" and mute the TV whenever the vampire girls appear.

Let's just be friends again :(

we can have butt secks and I'll let you imagine me as Jesse Biel

Also Braniac, Mr Credible is getting a PS3, so don't listen to him about Van Helsing. It was a pretty cool movie...decent acting for the most part, great effects and action sequences and a great sense of style to the movie. The best frankenstien monster since karloff, and the only one actually like the book. The opening is in black and white and is awesome, and dracula's monstrous form is awesome. It has its campy and over the top moments, and goes on a bit too long (one scene is more or less done twice in different places) but it's worth a watch if you're interested.

I used to hate the movie, but after watching it with my dad, I like it, if anything, as goofy fun.

Beckinsale's accent still ruins the universe, though.

Oh, and VH's Dracula is not the gayest one now, not after Blade:Trinity's Dracula.

I do love that B&W opening.

Hmmm. I might have to check it out then, Hugh Jackman is cool, so it might be worth a watch.:O

So out of curiosity, who thinks the missions will be more vairied than most of the games from this genre. SM2 was awsome, best spidey game out, but there was only so much you could stand getting that friggin balloon for the kid.

I just hope they break the mold when it comes to mission diversity.

You're a friend to the end, but I just can't stand still while intelligent human beings actually say X-men 3 is better than Superman Returns. Bandwagon or not, it's just not true. :ninja:
