WhatsHisFace said:The film broke even worldwide, for a man obsessed with making a profit, you seem to disregard the possibility of merchandising success pretty quickly, you biased fanboy.
And in writing this post, I have made a discovery.
My suspicions have been confirmed, you're a Marvel fanboy. That's why you've been holding X-men 3 over Superman Returns, it can be the only logical conclusion.
AND THAT'S WHY YOU HATE BATMAN BEGINS!![]()
Now with THWIP* I can understand it, because he worships Spider-man and therefore his whole view of the Superhero Movie genre is seen through that lense, and he doesn't give any credit to X-men 3. But for you, who seem to be a rational person, to support X-men 3 for it's sales alone, despite it's horrible quality... may you find mercy somewhere.
Here's coming from a non-biased man: X-men 3 sucks, Batman Begins is awesome.
Superman Returns is a great movie, better than Marvel films such as Daredevil and the entirety of the Blade Trilogy.
Now I really enjoyed Daredevil, Blade and especially The Punisher, and as quickly as I can say that Catwoman and a host of other DC movies (Batman primarily, didn't like the first four) were crap, I can say Superman Returns is a great movie, and that X-men 3 is the model of Hollywood's banality.
X Men 3 was awesome. I personally think idiots are the ones who all group together and say Batman Begins was awesome for the sake of it, ESPECIALLY when it isn't even the best Batman movie (Batman Returns had more style, emotion and pretty much everything that kicked Begin's ass). It was ''cool'' to hate X Men 3 before it had even finished wrapping. I refuse to believe any movie fan with access to the internet who hated the movie wasn't influenced by all the behind the scenes news and rumours. I would bet my money every single one was. But my love for x men was way stronger than listening to rumours and hearsay, and I loved the movie.
Im not saying X3 was better than supes or bats because of the numbers, Im saying it was a better film, period. But damn does it feel good that it outperformed both, ESPECIALLY superman.
I am a marvel fanboy yes. But I find some aspects of dc interesting. I think Batman is pretty much THE only character worth a damn in dc, (constantine too if you count him) and I LOVE Batman Returns. I just felt Batman Begins is highly overrated. I don't hate it at all, it's totally watchable, but it's not a film I'd own on dvd because I just didn't think it was that special.
Superman Returns is far from breaking even. Untill someone can prove otherwise, it has to make four hundred million box office worldwide. Those are the figures I have heard and I believe it. Even then, a film is only TRULY considered a sucess when it makes a profit domestically. The sad truth is the movie studios don't care as much about the world wide profit. For example, Van Helsing made 400 mill worldwide but not its budget domestically. Hence studios lost interest in it. And you can read ANYWHERE on the net (from non-biased sources too) that almost everyone regards superman as an underperforming faliure. You see, studios want HUGE numbers domestically, ala X3 (on a budget of 160) or either superman in films like this. even if it broke even domestically it could make a series viable. and despite what bryan singer says, I truly doubt you will see a sequel any time in the near future. It sucks if you liked the film, but thats the way it is.
Like I say about merchandise numbers too, you get me numbers, I'll admit it. But as far as I can see, its hanging on the shelves like a series of interacial gay cowboy figures being sold in texas.
