Comics New X-Men: Academy X

I cared about the characters until the ones I liked were either A)killed off B)written out or C) given much less panel time. With the exception of Julian, I really could have cared less about the Hellions and hate that they have taken over the book. Still love the title, but dont care as much about the book as I used to. If Mercury, Rockslide, Dust or Purge were killed off tomorrow, I wouldnt care at all. At least Tag and Wither are gone!

I totallt agree. I still like the book but don't get as excited to pick it up as I used to before the new creative team took over.

Okay, folks. It's been nearly a year. That means it's time for me to reconsider my dropped books of 2006 (which includes this book, Robin, and Outsiders. Birds of Prey isn't up for un-dropping until this summer).

So here's your part. Somebody here convince me to start buying this book again. What's been happening since those infamous issues where the writers sh@t all over Icarus?

So, we're talking since "Crusade"?

Well, since Jay died, the team (minus Elixir, but including David) fought Nimrod and defeated him with Forge's aide; Rockslide and X-23 were nearly killed, and would have been if not for their extreme durability (and, in the latter's case, a cross-country dash by Hellion). The team's actions won them praise from Cyclops, in spite of the rule-breaking. There was a big memorial service at the school for every X-Man who ever died (including, but not limited to, those who died in the first six issues or so of the K/Y run).

In that same issue, we caught up with Wither, who's been living in Mutant Town in the company of an old lady. It turns out that the lady is Selene, the Black Queen, in disguise, and, after the ugly discovery of how a bunch of his friends were killed while he was gone, Wither elects to become her acolyte/lover (it's not a bad deal, really:cwink: ).

Moving to the current arc, X-23 begins to have feelings for Hellion after he saved her life; Mercury clues in to this, and drags her off to a coffee shop, where they're promptly ambushed by agents of the Facility that created X-23. However, they don't want X-23, they want Mercury, for use on the creation of some colossal monster (who eats Mammomax). X-23 and Hellion head off to rescue her on their own.

I liked Kevin. Tag got screwed. Other than that, I hated the hellions and thought it was unfair the new mutants got pushed aside. That said, I'm starting to like Julian, but am sure he'll go back the the assc*ck he once was. Merc is just there, but has emotion. Santo should die, even now more so than before, and Dust is boring and always will be, I could keep going. Anyway you slice it, I still like this book and care for the characters in it now. The original creators made me hate the hellions, the new wrters are doing their job.

What about Elixer? Is he like, not considered to be on the team anymore? God, David seems to be on the friggen team and he doesn't even have a power! Bring Sophia and Laurie back!
O god no, keep that one dead. And David doesn't need powers to be on the team. Ask Storm, Scott, Doug... wait, don't ask doug.:o Well it's his own fault his dumbass got shot. No one told him to go out into battle when he had, like, a power that couldn't do anything.

Fine, if Laurie stays dead, then Josh has to become an integral part of this title, and not among the ranks of Anole and Matchstick.

I hope you're not one of those Wolverine freaks that need "All Wolverine, All the time"... Because X-23 is practically the only one left (save the two you didn't mention: Anole & Hellion).
Hellion is one of my favorites and his role has been downplayed, BUT I was referring to Josh, aka Elixer. What is his role in the book? He's there yet not really there. He was probably my favorite from the New Mutants, but barely gets any panel time

I think he's being set up as the team's medic/sciences guy, since the closest they currently have is David (who's more into technical/mechanical stuff).

too bad that doesnt leave much room for him to do much. I want him back as an active member

So they killed Mammomax too? This book is starting to feel like Hogwarts post Voldemort's rise... everytime one of this issues comes out we must ask "Anyone we know died?" like Ron did...

Mammomax isn't a castmember; he's a random background mutant. No actual X-kids have died since Icarus in #27.

But they're still killing x-characters just because... it's like this people don't know how to write a story if at least one person doesn't die in it. I miss the previous writers a lot. I just hope this new "magik" storyline that's coming (which is making me return to the book) don't end with her dying again.

That would be rather pointless.

As to killing Mammomax, they did it to showcase a threat. And, again, it's Mammomax.

I couldn't care less about Mammomax, it's the fact that they can't establish a story without killing characters. That's what sucks.

They didn't kill anyone in "Nimrod," or in #32 one-shot.

Pardon, doesn't the alternate version of Storm count? Nimrod killed Storm in reality whatever it was to make that reality's Forge help him. And in 32 there were a lot of dead people, and Wither even killed some cops... again, death everywhere, the new writers can't write stories without at least one death in them.

So, you object to stories where anything is killed? Even random background characters, not even people of Mammomax level notability; nameless patrons of a coffee shop? This is an action book; people get killed. Random bystanders die all the time in comics.

Also, Nimrod didn't kill Alternate Storm; he threatened to.
