Comics New X-Men: Academy X

Why does Julians's face look fat on that cover?

Because he got his wisdom teeth pulled the day before school photos.

I just love this book! And I am basically in love with this issue from the first few pages because of the interaction we have with characters like Bling, Anole, and Pixie. I love when they use the background characters!

This chick came into the store on Wed and was all excited cuz she though NXM was coming out this week. My comic guy told her that she was mistaken and that it was due out next week. He then proceeds to get out his advanced copy and read it making loud noises of surprise and humor. The chick almost died :D

Ick, you like that humor? It's stereotypical of every fratboy jock who goes ahead and says whatever comes to mind first without thinking about it just because he can. I never find that stuff funny.

What are you talking about? That was one of the funniest moments in this book. It reminded me of the relationship Iceman, Angel and Hank had back in the early days. So how can anyone in their right mind not admire and be taken back to that kind of innocence.

And because of that relationship, I have officially added this book to my roster.... As long as the writer doesn't get rid of that kind of (gullible) humor.

I really haven't followed this book since Beak & Angel bore children, so I know I've missed a lot since then. However, the writing looks refreshing and youth oriented, without a lot of complexity to it. Which is how this book should be written.

It's not quite "X-Men First Class", but it kind of has similarities, only with older kids.

I think Santo is as dumb as a rock :ninja: but his comment to Anole was pretty funny. I just wish his humor would have more depth.

Rockslide's humor isn't innocence, it's blockheaded stupidity, I don't care what the reaction is of other characters. It's not funny.

And Beak and Angel have never been in this book.

Fitting, no? Anyway, you hit the nail on the head. There's no depth to the humor. It's just there, as if the writers just sat around saying, "So what can we get away with Santo saying this month?"

How do you figure Beak and Angel have never been in New X-Men?

Have you even read this book in the last 5 years?

Which book do you think Emma was shot in, and who do you think shot her?

Which book do you think the Omega Gang originated from?

If not New X-Men, what book do you think they were featured in then?

There's a reason this book was originally called, New Mutants, then New X-Men: Academy X, then this, where the characters that are currently in it have always been in it, and never Beak or Angel.

If Julian could make him stronger by dismantling him, maybe Emma can take his brain apart(quickly) and make him smarter :csad:

I'd love for Victor to become the new "Iceman" or "Johnny Storm".... In a sense that he becomes the practical joker of the group. And Rockslide could become the proverbial and gullible "Thing". Sure, it could use a little more depth, but these are relatively new characters, and need to be developed more. Still, they're on the right track to a good start.

I see the Ben/Johnny comparison. Though, you remember when Josh was the funny one? :csad:

So basically what you're saying is that this is the same book Beak, Angel & the Omega Gang has always been in... it just had title variations over the years.

I thought I made it very clear already that Beak, Angel, and the Omega Gang have never been in this book. I said the characters CURRENTLY in the book have always been in it. Are Beak, Angel, and the Omega Gang currently in it? No. And they never have been.

Based on how you were describing it, you pointed out that this is pretty much the same book, but with different titles over the course of time, and that the characters have changed...

If that's the case, then the characters I mentioned have been featured in this book at some point in time. They're obviously not in it right now, due to depowering, incarceration, or other circumstances... Still, what it comes down to is this New X-Men book is based off of it's name varying predicessors.

No, I never described it in any such way. Let me point it out again:

There's a reason this book was originally called, New Mutants, then New X-Men: Academy X, then this, where the characters that are currently in it have always been in it, and never Beak or Angel.

The cast of characters has ALWAYS been the same, which NEVER included Beak and Angel. Which should have tipped you off awhile ago to realize you're thinking of the wrong book.

I don't see him as a funny type, but I could be wrong.

It'll take some time for me to get adjusted to all of these (new) characters, but I don't think it's serious enough for me to buy a lot of back issues, like I did with some of the O5 and Giant Sized characters.

...Thank goodness for the internet.

Okay, seeing as how this still isn't clarified...when Grant Morrison began his run on the X-Men book, he renamed it "New X-Men" but the issue numbers did not reset. Then when he left, the title returned to "X-Men". Somewhere during Morrison's run, Phillips and Weir began writing a book aptly titled "New Mutants" which was an introuduction of several new mutants along with the rejoining of some of the first generation of New Mutants. After 13 issues, the book started over at issue number 1, and was renamed "New X-Men: Academy X". (This was during the time of the Reload) Then, after the events of House of M, Kyle and Yost began writing with the events of Decimation, and the title was skimmed down to simply "New X-Men", which is in no way connected to Grant Morrison's "New X-Men" aside from the fact that they both share the same name.

He used to be funny. Especially in New Mutants.

GOd, I love his book too much. The Thing about this book, unlike X-men or even Uncanny, is that I care about the characters. The original Creators made me care. The new writers continued it. Hell, I even cared about Milligan's characters more than I do Carey's.

I already hate how they're writing Bling. She was all gung ho to being able to control her powers to a good degree and even becoming an X-Man, and now she wants out. Whatever. Par for course with these writers.

let's see shall we Decemtion, Friends Losing powers, those Friends mass Murdered, New X-Men almost killed by NIMROD, lets face it that story would have got around the school in no time. It kinda changes ones perspective on life wouldn't you say?

I cared about the characters until the ones I liked were either A)killed off B)written out or C) given much less panel time. With the exception of Julian, I really could have cared less about the Hellions and hate that they have taken over the book. Still love the title, but dont care as much about the book as I used to. If Mercury, Rockslide, Dust or Purge were killed off tomorrow, I wouldnt care at all. At least Tag and Wither are gone!

I hope you're not one of those Wolverine freaks that need "All Wolverine, All the time"... Because X-23 is practically the only one left (save the two you didn't mention: Anole & Hellion).

What about Elixer? Is he like, not considered to be on the team anymore? God, David seems to be on the friggen team and he doesn't even have a power! Bring Sophia and Laurie back!
