I wonder if they will just have background characters, kinda like the way they used Forge and Banshee for a while in the X-Men. Looking forward to the next arc, but I am enjoying the one we are in!

yeah, Forge and Banshee WERE mainly used as background characters. they never felt like full fledged X-Men. The only time they saw spot light were as replacements

they've had background characters since this book debuted. Those background characters have only had more to do since the revamp

I've actually been looking to get into this book, and I'm trying to start from the beginning...so I haven't read anything. Does it look like Magik will be a member or are they just using her for this arc?

I looked all over for some pop-culture or comic strip reference in the 1950's, and couldn't find anything. The cover still baffles me.

Nice to know the New X-Men get two issues of down time!

My I help a bit? Here's a good chronological read list for the New X-Men students from their beginnings.

There's some good comics where they guest star in as well. Just ask, I can include those in the list as well. They mostly include minor cameos or roles with these students, or bigger roles for other students that are more minor in this book (such as the Cuckoos, Gambit's squad in Milligan's X-Men run, Armor in Astonishing X-Men, etc.) If you want a full Students of Xavier list, just ask. I like making read orders for these kind of things.

Thanks, Hobbit...I appreciate the recommendations. I actually am about to purchase the New Mutants run off eBay. I've heard really good things about it. And I gotta say, I really like Young's stuff, from what I've seen of the pages posted in this topic. Is he the regular on the book or is he just filling in?

He's not a fill-in persay. He's a regular in that he's the artist for all the upcoming issues so far. Who knows when or how soon he'll be replaced though. Frankly, I love his art, and think it's great for the book, but after about 6 or 8 issues of it, I'll be pretty tired of it and want something else.
