News & Discussion Thread

Just heard from one of my sources that Hasbro is jumping on the bandwagon and creating its own multiverse. They plan to use Joe3 to reference Transformers (probably in a news clip) and to have them meet up with the Navy team from Battleship

In some ways, I've just come to see this film being as much of a sequel to the first GI Joe film like how Batman Forever was to Batman Returns. Same basic canon more or less, but definitely a way different approach along with having been created with the sense of semi-rebooting the franchise.

I mean in terms of technology alone, I can't really see this GI Joe film matching with the previous one. The technology available in this film felt more real world based than the lasers, super suits, and fish spying robots that we saw in the previous film.

I really think that this movie can go the way of X-Men: DOFP and pick old and new characters along the way. Like Quaid and Nichols can come back, someone from Retaliation may not show up (I'm thinking Jinx) and so on and so forth. It can in all honesty be a franchise much bigger than a trilogy. Paramount are doing more than three movies for transformers- so that paradigm is at least broken- its not trilogy and bust anymore (are you listening Chris Nolan?).

There are so many characters in GI Joe, one could really have fun with them.

As much as fanboys claim to despise both live action franchises, we'd **** ourselves if they ever announced something like that.

I'm not a fanboy, but I definitely see the possibilities. With the success of The Avengers, and with DC going to take a stab with their collaboration, Paramount would be stupid to not think of trying to come up with something for a G.I.Joe/Transformers crossover.

Kinda bummed out how the Joes wearn't multinational like the first one where they gathered the best "Alpha Dogs" of the entire world.

I get why, but still...

Ok I really don't get why this movie is somehow good and better than Rise of Cobra. Please explain.

Don't get me wrong, I liked The Rock, Adrianne Palicki and Bruce Willis as well as Channing Tatum's 10 minutes of screen time, but I felt that the plot was rather dull and to me, without having more of the original cast it does not feel like a sequel. This far outweighs the good stuff about the movie.

I honestly thought when they delayed the movie that they were planning on changing the script they would not kill Duke off. I enjoyed the banter with Channing and The Rock and reminded us why men can freely say they like Channing Tatum (I liked his performance in movies like 21 Jump Street etc).

In G.I. Joe cannon(like comics, cartoons etc) is Duke really that important? If not I guess I could reluctantly accept what happened and move on. I sincerely hope that if they do G.I. Joe 3 they bring back everyone else. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Dennis Quaid's character interact with Bruce Willis?

I wouldn't. I like Quaid a lot, but he was awful in GI Joe.

Hawk, Ripcord, Heavy, Scarlett, Breaker are absents
Duke and Snake Eyes are the only ancient Joes reprising their roles

I wouldn't. I like Quaid a lot, but he was awful in GI Joe.

Quid seemed like he was giving a bit of a **** in the first one, Willis seemed like he was barely there in this.

Quaid was kinda playing it with the 'exuberance' that he was in a movie based on a cartoon/comic book. I'm not gonna say he was over the top but he was definitely treading that line.

I didn't mind it.

Willis just played it absolutely straight forward.

Well,I just got back from seeing it.On the whole,I enjoyed it,but in no way do I think it was better than the first one.

I knew going in I'd be disappointed that Scarlett & Hawk would be absent (and that- in one of the worst kept secrets of all time-
Duke would die
but,I wanted to keep an open mind about it.

It was OK at best. The Rock was basically The Rock (ditto Willis).I was never a big fan of Jaye and Flint in the cartoons, but they had none of the banter that was a staple of their relationship in the cartoons.Lady Jaye was a lot hotter looking than in the cartoons at least.

Some of it was downright slow moving.I thought the whole prison rescue went on forever. The annoying warden didn't help.

The highlights were,of course,Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.Pretty much every scene with them.(I'm not sure why SS is apparently immortal)Without them, this film could've been any other action film.
I also liked Block & Firefly's fistfight with guns in hand.

So,yeah,not really a bad film,but it could've been better.

And the hilarious being that the military in TF are more convincing as Joes,

Something that I have been saying over the last several years since TF 1 came out. I said it before, and I'll say it again. Bay should have directed the JOE movies and Somers should have directed the TF movies.

Retaliation was a fun action movie. No more, no less. I would have loved more Cobra and Cobra Commander, though. Hopefully that'll be in the sequel.

Oh, and I could watch an entire Snake Eyes movie. Everything with him was amazing.

I watched it opening day and was like wtf Duke dies?
He cant die and yes i do think they should of brought everyone back from the first one.

''Destro, you're out of the band.'' Lol.

I thought it was a pretty good movie, much better than ROC.

Does anyone else have a problem with the government holding CC and Destro in a prison that is basically prolonged inhumane torture? I mean come on, just execute them rather than subject them to that.

You're suggesting that torturing Cobra Commander and Destro of the Cobra organization is out of line?

GTFO. :cmad:

Held without a trial in perpetual torture is sick. At least execute them rather than keeping them in that state. Am I that off base?

Way to sympathize with a bunch of terrorists bud...

Shouldn't we be better than them? What's to gain by subjecting them to perpetual agony?
