What is your definition of "superficial body art"?

If you are talking about getting tattoos or piercings, I'd venture most would think not, but branding or worse, cutting your skin to make scars is something different altogether.

Now in 2015, body scarification is gaining, a little, in popularity, but back in the 1980's, especially some 18 or 19 year old kid, it was not an acceptable practice.

Even today there are some states and/or cities that are making what is seemed as "non-traditional" body modification illegal. Not saying that's a good thing, but it's the reality of things. The point is that even today scarification is not considered the "norm" and in 1983 it would be something that would get the person seen by a mental health professional.

And the point is that this is not "fun-loving" or "swashbuckling" type things.

Just feel it's really unnecessary.

Blue skinned mutants are not the norm of the 80s.

Pirates had types of tattoos and scars in their heyday, circus people/freakshow performers had tattoos/scars, fun-loving people have tattoos/scars/

People seriously read too far into things.

Are we seriously discussing what is "normal" regarding a kid who looks like a pointy eared blue demon?

But what you are trying to do is come up with a totally different reason for this kid to have the identical scars,

We know from X2 that he scarred himself for his sins.

I just can't see how they can logically change the reasoning behind the scarification. And if the reasoning stands, as in it's for his sins, then I would say that he is an overly religious person as only, IMO, an overly religious person would do that to himself for that reason.

And it's hard to see an overly religious person being "fun-loving" and "swashbuckling".

Then no offense, but you lack imagination.

His reasons in X2 are not concrete for Apoc Nightcrawler.

But again, it's kind of canon that if Nightcrawler at 19 years old has the identical scarification that he did in X2, that it is because of his religious beliefs and that he cuts or burns his flesh for his sins.

Yes, we all know that X2 now, effectively, doesn't exist, but you can't ignore some things. If the 1983 Nightcrawler has the identical scars as the X2 Nightcrawler, then it's for the same reasons. I mean, they are identical!

And again, for me, it's hard to see how a character who would cut or burn his flesh for his sins can be "fun-loving" and/or "swashbuckling".

Jesus Christ, are we still on this topic?!

Jesus Christ has been very popular on this board lately.

No we aren't but apparently Super Jim is. I've noticed here in this section of the forums he just making a lot of complaining posts about the characters. They're not good or true to the characters aka they aren't what he wants to see. So therefore, garbage.

 Okay.

Nightcrawler in terms of age and looks to me fits in well with the Alan cumming version we've seen before.

They have chosen to keep the body art also. The reason is unknown.

I think from the images that's all we can deduce. They can stick with the circus reason. If he was born and raised there he'd have the time or they can come
Up with another reason

Can I just point out that just because Nightcrawler says one scar for every sin in X2...that doesn't make it true? Maybe that's just his cover story for a horrible abuse at the hands of a freak show owner, or something...

I think it's looks amazing.
Kodi's face suits the look well.

Nightcrawler is meant to be a comic relief, but judging this pic, he seems like a more serious and tragic character. There's a strong element of sadness to him.
I certainly hope not. His early interview's said this would be a more fun-loving version of the character. Id hate to get stuck with another sad Nightcrawler.

According to the EW article he will be a source of comic relief for the movie

I know I know, I was only judging the look in the pic above.

You can't say he has a vibe of humour and fun-loving to him there.

The blue part of his hair, is part of his mutation? I hope it's not Jubilee's work:woot:

Why can't Nightcrawler be "fun-loving", "swashbuckling" AND "religious"/"having a darker side"? It would make him less one-dimensional. You don't need much imagination for that.
