To become a ninja, one must learn -- the deadly arts of war, for example. Or how to wear those weird socks. Stuff like that.

You can't be any geek off the street, and so Tecmo-Koei has decided to lock the online multiplayer of Ninja Gaiden 3 behind an online pass. So says a listing on Gamefly warning potential renters of Ninja Gaiden 3, anyway. Update: It's confirmed! Ninja Gaiden 3 will have an online pass, a Tecmo Koei representative has confirmed with Joystiq.

We've sent our silent inquisitors to Tecmo Koei to secure confirmation on the matter. We'll let you know what we hear back.

Yes they did. It comes out on March 23rd. They announced the date when they revealed the Collector's Edition back in December.

NINJA GAIDEN 3 RELEASE DATE, COLLECTOR'S EDITION & PREORDER DETAILS

TECMO KOEI Europe announced today the release date for the standard and Collector's Edition of its upcoming action-packed title, NINJA GAIDEN 3. Developed by Team NINJA, this innovative new installment of the celebrated core action series will be available on March 23, 2012 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. A NINJA GAIDEN 3 value-packed Collector's Edition will also be available for both console platforms on the same day.

NINJA GAIDEN 3 spotlights the series' beloved Japanese dark hero, Ryu Hayabusa, with an original story developed by famed writer Masato Kato bringing new depth to the game's intense swordsmanship and hardcore action combat. Led by Yosuke Hayashi, Team NINJA has crafted the game with the sole purpose of giving players a new experience as the man, the human being, behind the mask of the world's greatest ninja, Ryu Hayabusa.

As well as adding depth to this mysterious and complex character, the game promises heightened intensity during close combat fighting while featuring new competitive and co-op online multiplayer modes that bring a new aspect to the NINJA GAIDEN series. Once more, on March 23rd, it will be time for players to pick up the infamous Dragon Sword, hone its blade and sharpen their skills.

Team NINJA has also prepared a special treat for those who preorder NINJA GAIDEN 3: an exclusive, special downloadable two-character demo stage from their upcoming DEAD OR ALIVE 5 fighting game, which will give fans a first chance to experience the game's high quality and high energy action fighting before it hits stores in 2012.

Meanwhile, the premium NINJA GAIDEN 3 Collector's Edition offers a truly deluxe package as it includes an exclusive NINJA GAIDEN 3 "Unmask" game art book, the official game soundtrack CD, a unique collectors "Duel of the Masked" figure, as well as the chance to play four characters in the DEAD OR ALIVE 5 demo stage.

oh my bad I must have forgotten. ok well rashad has solved the problem raven. I must not have remembered cause almost all other articles after words haven't been repeating the date since. which they usually do. it's sign of confirmation. I just checked the game inform article on the page ahead of this and it's states march 20th. which makes it more confusing. I'm guessing the 20th is for the north American one.

wow!! I wasn't expecting it to come out so soon!!

I just haven't been following this game that closely, I guess......lol

have they said if Kasumi ( from DOA ) will be in this game ( and if we will get to play as her )?

or is Ryu going to be the only playable character?

Ryu is the only playable character. No word on Kasumi, but Ayane and Momiji do return. Check the previous page for images. :yay:

How does cutting down an endless line of enemies make Hayabusa feel? That's the unexpected question posed by the Ninja Gaiden 3 launch trailer.

Retailer lists Ninja Gaiden 3 special edition with bloody sword Move accessory

One week before the release of Ninja Gaiden 3, a previously unseen special edition has popped up on the website of Canadian retailer Video Games Plus. The set inclues a PS3 copy of the game and a special "Dragon Sword" accessory for PlayStation Move that mimics the appearance of Ryu Hayabusa's sword. Or, to put it another way, is a tiny bloody foam sword.

We haven't seen this edition for sale anywhere else, so it's potentially either a Canadian exclusive or something that didn't actually make it to production. It's different from the known collector's edition, anyway. We're asking Tecmo Koei now. We just want to know if we and other mature adults will be able to play this M-rated game with a toy sword.

3 might be a bit harsh but I was reading some comments from people that have it on Gamefaqs and apprently its awful

Wow.....that's shocking, well Itagaki left Tecmo and they tried to still hold Ninja Gaiden together without him. Sometimes new leadership doesn't mean the game will be better, the same thing happened back in the day with Devil May Cry 2

Serves them right. Thats what you get for removing decapitations.

Wow 3/10. Sheesh

I enjoyed the last 2 Ninja Gaiden games. I can't believe this one is so bad. Wow.

Yeah, I'm surprised to see such a low scoring review, but there been some 8/10's out there too. With that review though I'm not gonna be getting the game anytime soon, if at all.

IGN gave God Hand a 3 as well, and that game was fantastic. While I have heard this is a pretty bad game, I'm willing to give it a rental to check it out.

I hated God Hand and thought that game was awful
