No Confirmation Yet, Is TIH2 Going to Happen?

“Here’s the thing — it is all in the planning stages, but certainly if you look back to any number of ‘Hulk’ comics, or ‘Avengers’ comics, or ‘The Ultimates’ comics or the ‘Ultimate Avengers’ DVD that we released, it certainly makes a hell of a sequence,” Feige said of a possible Hulk vs. Avengers battle, one which Leterrier set up perfectly with the end of his film with the scene depicting Tony Stark counseling a defeated General Ross.

In fact, Leterrier went so far as to call that shot the first scene of “The Avengers” when we chatted in June. For a number of reasons I detailed earlier, actually, it just makes TOO much sense — it wouldn’t necessarily require Norton (just a lot of CGI), it would be a viable threat to the already assembled group (which wouldn’t require an additional villain’s story), and it could dovetail nicely with a “Hulk 2″ set-up (which Feige admitted in our chat was something they weren’t planning in the moment.)

Well, Feige is basically saying that they want the Hulk to rest so they can move on to other characters, but that doesn't mean we're not getting a sequel. Simply put, I think what'll happen is we'll get the Hulk as the villain in "The Avengers" and then after that he'll have another one of his own films coming along.

HULK IN NO RUSH TO SMASH AGAIN

MTV has a quite good article on the possibility of seeing another Hulk appearance in the near future. Marvel honcho Kevin Feige is high on the reboot / reimagining / rewhatever that Incredible Hulk turned out to be, but isn't necessarily drawing up immediate plans for a sequel: 'We have a Hulk that we can be proud of and that is a better match and fits more with the tone of what had been in our comics." Furthermore, "When we set out to do this, it was a very big deal for us. It was a big deal getting the character back, it was a big deal having it be the second of the films we were going to do ourselves, and we really had two goals in mind," he added. "One was to make even a dollar more than the first one did, so we could justify that we had done it from a financial aspect, and the other one was to bring a Hulk to the screen that a broader fanbase could enjoy. The good news is, we accomplished both."

From those standpoints, I can agree, although I'm torn between the two film versions so far. As Banner, Edward Norton was much more enjoyable than Eric Bana, at least for my money, as was the way that his character was laid out than in Ang Lee's version. Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky also was a highlight for the second film. William Hurt vs. Sam Elliott was kind of a wash for me, with possibly the characterization edge going to Hurt's Ross than Elliott's. But in terms of Betty Ross, I just couldn't buy Liv Tyler over the work that Jennifer Connelly did. No one version of the film was eminently preferable to me over the other, because the second lacked anything comparable to Lee's desert sequence and the final fight with the Abomination didn't live up to hype that I had previously heard about it.

So although Feige and the Marvel Gang consider the reboot a success, there are currently no concrete plans to have a sequel pounding celluloid anytime soon, although further installments of other properties, most notably Iron Man are barrelling ahead at full steam. It could be that the reported angle of having Hulk vs. the Avengers could be the most logical step for the character to go, though, unfortunately, I'm not going to hold my breath till I'm green that Edward Norton will be anywhere near it. Feige added fuel to this rumor by saying, "I would expect that people may see the Hulk again soon before he is again carrying his own film."

So we'll have to engage in that honored fan tradition of wait and see. To help with that, check out Nick's take on the DVD, premiering today.

That's actually not bad news, and I don't mind if we have to wait until after the Avengers movie for a Hulk film because we have gotten two movies already. One was good, the other was great, so that's enough to satisfy me for now. The Hulk being in the Avengers will be a big treat, and I look forward to it.

Both of these articles concern me, as I have absolutely NO interest in an Avenger's movie, especially this early. The Hulk character is the only thing keeping me interested in an Avengers movie, but by the time they do get around to doing another solo Hulk movie, the likes of Norton, Letterier, etc may have moved onto other things.

So if they end up re-casting the lead again, count me out. I really feel like Marvel is a JOKE at the moment.

Thing is if Marvel do get Norton back for The Avengers, you know that he will want some sort of control in production same with Downey Jr. Downey was so involved for Iron Man and is really into the sequel with Favreau. The same for Leterrier and Norton for TIH but that one article was blown out of proportion and people think there is a Norton vs Marvel feud going on.

But if Norton is back for The Avengers and Marvel confirm for TIH2 to be released one year after Avengers, I am sure Norton will do something that will lead The Avengers straight into TIH2. So in a way the Banner/Hulk character can be developed more in Avengers then in a sequel we just go straight into it all.

If that makes any sense...

That makes complete sense, and I just have to add that I hate how people are still trying to make it seem like there's a Norton vs. Marvel feud going on even when he already said the discussion was blown completely out of proportion. From what we saw on DVD, Norton was really interested in portraying the character and working with Leterrier, so I seriously doubt either will have a problem returning. A hiatus for Hulk isn't a problem, we have gotten two films of him, so I understand Marvel's current approach.

Just keep Marvel giving me 3 movies a year and I'll be fine :woot:

When asked at the premiere of TIH about returning for a sequel, Norton replied by saying if the script is good he will do it.

TIH2 Norton and Leterrier both write the script together and both get control of what is cut and what is kept.

I'd love to see that happen, because we'd get one hell of a movie. If Marvel is smart, they'll give them both more control, and if we're lucky, we'll get to see Norton put even more into the character of Banner next time.

If you guys want...I could kidnap Norton and torture him until he agrees to another Hulk.

Nah, I wouldn't do that....or would I? The twists keep coming!

I'm sure there will be....after the Avengers in 2011, of course.

Norton & Leterrier both wanted this movie to be taken as part one, so I don't think they'd just drop out of the project in a flash.

I just saw both Ultimate Avengers movies tonight.. The HULK kicking everyone's ass

I've only seen the first "Ultimate Avengers" movie, but not the second. In the first, it was almost like Betty resented Banner, or so it seemed. Still, that was an awesome movie, no doubt. The end fight between the Hulk & the Avengers is how I expect it to be in the live action film, only on a larger scale.

Was his role increased in the second movie, or about the same as the first?

Smaller. But there's a hint at the end, like he's gonna be on the run.. they never made a 3rd movie, though

Yeah, I know, which sucks, but they might, you never know. As for him being on the run, I think that eventually that will wear thin with the character as a whole and it'll need a rest. They should make Banner not be a fugitive all the time. It's worked well for the past 30+ years, but try something new...I think they intend to with this franchise if it continues.

I was thinking how funny and crazy it would be to watch the Hulk fight King Kong. Then I started feeling very very sorry for King Kong.
It would be the most brutal beating Kong ever received.

It really would be, poor guy would probably get his head ripped off or get a hole punched through his chest.

Kong would be begging for mercy, bloody ape nostrils, covering his head. LOL!!
So sad. I don't even want to think about it anymore. Poor gorrilla, sheesh!

Yeah and as ridiculous as it may sound, animal rights activists boycotting the film for cruelty to a fictional ape. :woot:

I really wouldn't put it past them.

I think that they need to really utilize the Hulk's rogue's gallery and make the best of it. The Hulk has a great rogue's gallery, but most writers don't use his rogue's gallery to the best of their ability. I'd like to see Leterrier use a variety of villains like the Leader, Madman, Ravage, etc.

That's freaking hilarious!! You've got me rolling over here!! :woot::woot:

Kong's eyes filled with tears, as the Hulk wails on him...
God, it's a heart breaking image in my head! This is terrible, I can't seem to shake it!
