I don't really mind if this thread is off-topic. It was an Arpil fools joke to start with.
These days you see things that waddle like ducks on stage with legs way too thick to walk right, and backs so wide their arms jut out at the side.
I love the classic physiques. Sure a lot of the guys had different structure, compare Reeves to Reg Park, but the proportions on the structure looked similar.
They workd toward a specific ratio then. It was not about becoming a freak, it was about having the build of a Superhero, or Greek god.
The guys were HEALTHY back then too. Many of them lived to very old ages and stayed in good health. My fav is Pete Lupus, but then I like the taller frame with the larger joints. He had the taller version of Herculean structure.
Reeves had the Apollonian structure. Tiny waist, small joints etc...
The cool thing is they all had very good proportions.
The other intersting thing about their proportions back then, while they looked like Greek gods in trunks, they would hide in regular clothes, looking only a tad thicker than average. They did not look like Gorillas fully clothed back then.

You are totally correct, before steroids when guys could get as big as trucks they worked off of the Greek Ideal. How tall you are and wrist measurement gave a mathematical ratio to how much each muscle should be. Like the measurement of your neck and bicep should be the same and half that of your waist and so on. There was a method and a math formula for getting the perfect V taper that can be thrown out and look freakish if any one of those are off.

A couple more on what they were going for. Note the first article is about how these guys looked NORMAL in clothes, not like freaks ... like what we expect from Superman.

Awesome articles!!! Thanks for posting :) It's funny how this thread has turned to a discussion on the proper superman physique...hmmm...maybe that should be a new thread...

If...you...make...it...we...shal...post....:yay:

Yet another Fitness Thread it seems. Also, I would like to point out that Daniel Craig in Casino Royal is showing a classic case of 'roid-gut when he's coming out of the water in the bathing suit.

this was a nice joke thread, and as for the superman body i hope who ever is selected gets in great shape and looks good as superman.
