I saw the final battle. It was short, and frankly wasn't a good fight. Chatwin either got a horrible script or is just a weak actor. "I am goku...i am oozaru! to be one i must be 2!"

And the beam struggle was over way too fast.

Imo dragonball on film needs a fresh take. We've all watched the show a billions times..we need a really great writer to turn dragonball into the next star wars. I know the budget plays a huge part but this movie really(haven't seen it all yet) doesn't give me the fantasy aspect. They need to take it more seriously...basically.

Dragonball as a series is cool but it does have a pretty basic storyline. I always wanted them to redo it but have someone else write it like (Brian Michael Bendis or someone who's cool). I think if they keep the basic outline plus all the show's characters it might be really great.

Looks like none of you need a review from me, as I predicted.

The movie was indeed HORRIBLE. I felt bad throughout almost the entire thing. I'll give more details later, it's late now.

exactly my point....it's so predictable that it shouldn't even be considered a spoiler.

I think that's the point. They want it to be slightly spoiler-esque and with something the audience is familiar with so as to get excited but not so full blown it reveals too much. Think of it as a classic misdirection. Newcomers will be thinking 'Piccolo's coming back more bad ass in the sequel to wreak vengeance on Goku' when instead, he'll be back as an ally because of something worse approaching.

as i said, even if they don't understand why the cliffhanger was shown it would spark more of an interest simply because it's a new element. they've already seen Piccolo so it's no surprise that he's coming back. they didn't show a cliffhanger for the first LotR movie that showed Gandalf coming back to life. so when the general audience saw the first trailer with Gandalf the White coming back they were actually surprised.

besides, none of the general audience knew about S.H.I.E.L.D. but it was a cliffhanger in Iron Man. it was a hit amongst fans and it was able to spark a bit of curiosity amongst non-fans.

I dunno... I just get the feeling that the general audience won't be so hyped up or curious enough to go Google about Saiyans etc. at the end of the movie just because they showed up at the end credits.

With regards to the SHIELD/Avengers referrence at the end credits, it's slightly different. Most, if not everyone, has heard of the Avengers and know it's the teamup of Marvel's top heroes with Captain America as its face. And so, the prospect of such a movie is bound to get people excited. And to top it off, they got Samuel L. Jackson to deliver the important line. That again, is sheer awesome to the general audience. They didn't know or care that he was Nick Fury, they saw it more of Sam Jackson showing up to tell the viewers that Iron Man might/will be teaming up with Captain America.

With Dragonball, I don't think they've cast Vegeta just yet. So, they can't really show his face (which if recognizable as the character, would indeed generate buzz). Since they couldn't do that, they went with Piccolo instead, which was fine.

i don't believe that they have a rough outline for a trilogy. it's hard enough to believe they had a rough outline for the events of THIS film. when i say rough outline, i mean more like a SOLID outline. they didn't even have enough time or talent to properly right THIS script, so i seriously doubt that they really know what they wanted to do with the sequels before they made this film.

The script issue arose from a combination of the Strike, production time constraints and the amount of material needed to cover all the basic Dragonball concepts in a short period of time (it's under 90 minutes for crying out loud!).

okay fair enough, but my problem with the scene isn't even so much that they showed Piccolo. it's the fact that they make it so blatantly obvious that he'll be back. they don't show Piccolo's lifeless body with a mysterious silhouette walking up to him or something more subtle. they show Piccolo being served a bowl of soup. it's not a hint or even really a cliffhanger, that's a straight up spoiler.

I agree. Something subtler than an 'in your face' shot of Piccolo being still alive should have sufficed.

No we definately need a review. :woot:

The more reviews we get the better.

I am gonna see this movie, maybe on opening night...but man...Seeing the clips, most of that end fight, and the reviews...I might as well bend over after I hand the theater my money for the ticket.

But maybe it be so-so...I still wanna see it myself, but I don't expect it to be even okay. I rather see a director's cut or all of the deleted scenes.

imdb drop from 5.9 to 5.4.....

Also I read that
When piccolo gets defeated he is left laying there and nobody checks is he alive or dead....Then after the credits some chick is looking after him...You left piccolo laying there....the ****?

If someone may pm me this final battle scene, it would be greatly apprieciated.

Thank you

I saw the last battle scene, the one on utube that i think everyone is going on about,

and frankly i couldn't see **** the quality is so bad, i really don't know how anyone can critique that clip.

Yeah, I couldn't see **** either. But from the description from reviews, it sounds bad.

the clip is almost not even worth watching...it's so bad.

I just need to get this off my chest....

Could somebody... anybody.... please explain to me... why in God's name was the baby that represented Goku in a flashback....

ASIAN???? :cmad::waa::cmad::cmad::cmad::waa::waa::waa::ikyn

sigh.... why didn't Stephen Chow just direct the movie and why did Fox have to buy the rights?????

Heh... hilarious. Same thing happened in "The Legend of Chun Li". The child they used for young Chun Li was clearly chinese. As she got older she turned less and less chinese till she was only half chinese.

Vegeto is in the movie !

:lips:

Was it too much to ask for a shadowy Gary Oldman as King Vegeta with "MARCH OF THE STORMTROOPERS from STAR WARS (aka Darth Vader theme) playing in the background with
CHRISTIAN BALE!!! (in a perfect world)
as Prince Vegeta kneeling before him saying, "It is time... he asks for an audience"

But ya... I told you so...
Everything is so dull and lackluster...
Oh but they got YAMCHA right! Pfft! Who cares?

Trunks: This is not the future my mother warned me about... and in this future ... I don't think I can win this war... This is Trunks... *cue Terminator theme*

Ya awesome scene man!! It played before the movie itself as a trailer....

My Review: 2/10

Ok, guys so I watched Dragonball Evolution Saturday Night, thinking to see some sweet ass James Marsters villain acting. Boy was I disappointed. I would love to sit here and tell you all the million things wrong with this movie but I'll just give the pros and cons from my opinion. Oh by the way, if you're wondering where I saw the movie, I never told anyone I live in Tokyo with my Uncle who is in the Airforce.

but now, I'll start with the pros:

- Bulma and Mai's eye candy. Yes, Rossum's acting is nothing more than bland and Ekira's role is as useless and confusing as ever. But they are both very, very hot,....and that's about it.

- For me, this is more of pro/con.. but the acting is so bad, you can't help but to laugh, and this is what I call entertainment. but wait...

-The ki blasts, were ok, I like the auras as well

-Chow Yung Fat - you might see better acting for him in many other movies. but I'm glad he was there to gives us a few gags.

- I think Ernie Hudson looked cool in this movie

- I liked the fact they used some of the original Japanese names, like the name for the 4 star ball, and the dragon being called Shenlong, and the Mafuba being called Mafuba instead of Evil Containment Wave

- and Finally James Marster's little screen time was the only thing that gave me a smile

now for the cons... (crackes knucles)

- Justin Chatwin - at first, I thought Chatwin could be good, but I was wrong, terrible acting.

-Jamie Chung - nice boobs, terrible acting

- Joon Park - Has the perfect IQ and personally for Yamcha, after all, he is the ladies man in Asia. But his character was written very ****** and given crappy dialogue.

- The plot - if I can get a dollar for every plot whole in this movie, I can get that new PS3 I wanted

- Length- 86 mins just doesn't cut it. The whole movie feels likes the sequence from the Anime where they show you clips for the next Episode. you know.."Next Time..on Dragonball Z!"

- The awesome 9 minute final battle - the last battle is such a rip off, after all the team from the matrix where working on it, well... where the hell was it, all we see is Goku and Piccolo throwing ki blasts at each other and then they collide and they levitate in the air punching each other, that's the only physical contact they have with each other. Then here comes...

- The Kamehameha wave - major disappointment - not only was executed terribly, but it was also incredibly short and pointless, if you're going to use the Kamehameha wave to finish off the villain, at least use common sense to make it more relevant that the blast actually hurt. I mean it just barely hits Piccolo and he's falls back unconscious ..WTF and why in the hell did Chatwin fly towards him while doing it. They didn't even check to see if he was finished, they act as if he was never there.

-why does the baby in the flashback of gohan finding him look Asian and have jet black hair and eyes. Why was he in a meteor, this isn't Superman, he was in a freaking space pod for goodness, they can't get the most simple things correct

- Shenron - I seen this in the leaked scene but it's actually a lot more humorous in the theater, the only thing I have to same about this scene is ...."Dragon!!!!!"..... where???? oh that thing? wtf...that's shenron?

- the freaking Ninja Turtles high kick in the air frame freeze to end the movie... absolutely lame, come on now, this is 2009, nobody does that **** in movies anymore.

I hope Fox doesn't even touch DBZ screw that, just leave us alone

Power Rangers the movie was more entertaining than this :ikyn, hell Power Rangers was the **** back then

but....

I just blame Fox in hiring Ben Ramsey in the first place, and making such a rushed, careful production of a franchise that doesn't deserve that treatment. They don't give a damn about Dragonball, they shouldn't have even brought the rights.

I also speak out against Stephen Chow, who could have directed this movie and made it the fun Dragonball movie we deserve. But this guy says he only directs movies written originally by him. But then he's announced direct The Green Hornet. Stephen Chow is still my guy, but I'm just mad he didn't put much effort, and Fox didn't use him. Kung Fu Hustle did pretty well in the U.S for subtitled movie.

I speak out against James Wong, who basically kissed Fox's ass knowingly that they were butchering his movie. If I was him I would stay away from Fox. I know James Wong did not want this movie like this, I know deep down inside he wishes he could make the movie from scratch without Fox ruining his decisions.

on the side

I give thanks to James for his enthusiasm and trying to bring Piccolo into a bad character and his loyalty to the manga. unfortunately, he was underused and was giving crappy screen time.

I give sympathy to Chatwin for he was not ready for this role, and he must have had a stressful experience, after all, half the internet wants his head hung...

Overall, Fox needs to stop making movies, or they need to serious get some remodeling done in their staff. Because they hasn't a been a big box-office hit for them since... 07

I only seen 2 decent movies from Fox so far.. Taken and Australia

Kill Tom Rothman and bury him with Sudam Hussain

that's all I have to say
