I understand the skepticism....but I'm still excited for this game!

And Told him I have. but they need to have that be more accessible and available from the jump/ start, so both reviews and people that have played it will take notice of it and there needs to be what Tron Bonne said with the Empires and Xtreme Legends. other wise they will see it as the usual where the NPC Enemies aren't aggressive enough etc it'll be trashed and be treated the same as per usual anything dynasty worrior's in north America. And I know Nintendo want a win with this and to have a new series as a whole.Have you ever played Dynasty Warriors in Chaos Mode?
Enemies standing around doing nothing most of the time is true in normal mode, but they tend to attack more frequently in the latter modes.
If this does follow Dynasty Warriors type of progression (which, I wouldn't be surprised if it did considering Omega Force is doing it) getting all the good weapons and equipment requires you to play on the hardest difficulties.
Now I'm not saying Enemies have incredible AI in harder difficulties, but they are aggressive enough to the point where they become notable threats. Jumping in the middle of a group while using unsafe attacks will get you killed.
A new trailer for Hyrule Warriors shows Link using another Zelda weapon—what appear to be the Power Gloves. Link is shown lifting heavy objects in the environment and hurling them around with very little trouble, using them to attack enemies.

New character reveals for the upcoming Hyrule Warriors have been trickling out ever since E3. After today’s news, we now know a total of 10 playable characters in the game. There’s been a lot of hype and other intriguing debates about the characters that have been announced so far. Some of you may be excited over getting a chance to play as Midna or Impa, others may express confusion over the inclusion of Agatha or Fi. But there’s one sentiment that keeps coming up that I just can’t wrap my head around: People complaining that there are too many female characters in the game. The only thing I can possibly respond to that with is:
Are you freaking kidding me?
I’ve heard this said on forums, seen it on social media, it’s even appeared in the comments of articles here on oprainfall, and I just don’t understand it. Are people seriously crying that there aren’t enough male characters? I mean, is this really a problem? We’re one month removed from an E3 where major companies revealed so many games with generic white male protagonists that most of the Internet couldn’t help but notice. In the wake of the backlash, the developers were forced to come up with the most asinine excuses for why they excluded the possibility of playing as a woman in their games. It became a sad, soul-crushing joke. People have been looking for more diverse video game characters; women and minorities have been clamoring for representation, everyone wants to see something different, and the industry seems unwilling to change a thing.
With all this in mind, how can it be a bad thing for a game to have so many female characters?
I can already hear the groaning: “blah blah blah feminism”. Okay then, let’s remove the feminist angle from the debate for a moment, and I’ll ask again: Is this really a problem? What is wrong with playing as a female character? Maybe it would be somewhat understandable if these were empty shells to be used as the player’s avatar. But these are pre-existing, fully-fleshed out characters from a pre-established lore. The chance to do battle as one of these awesome characters is one any fan should be excited for. And let’s face it, of all the characters in the Zelda universe, most of the really amazing ones are female anyway. A lot of the men would either make lame fighters, or just be there as a joke or nod to the fandom.
Take our own list of most wanted Hyrule Warriors characters that was published a few weeks ago. There are only four female characters chosen, but what male characters made the list? Two of them are alternate forms of Link: Dark Link, and the Young Link with his mask transformations. Two others, Vaati and Ganon, are villains in the series. Sheik’s gender depends on whether you believe he’s just a disguise or a whole new person. That leaves one—just one—legitimate, non-villain, male character that we want to see.
It’s not hard to find amazing female characters in the entire The Legend of Zelda series. We’ll start with Din, Nayru and Farore, the three Goddesses who created the world–or, if you prefer, the Oracles from the handheld games, respectively the Oracle of Seasons, Ages, and…the password desk, because apparently the Game Boy Color wasn’t technologically advanced enough for Farore to have her own game. Next we’ve got the Sages from Ocarina of Time. All but two of the Sages are female, with most either being on our wish list, or already announced. Four of the seven Sages in A Link Between Worlds are female as well. There are plenty of other awesome female characters that would be fun to play as. There’s the Great Fairy with her variety of magical abilities, Maple, a witch’s apprentice with skills of her own, and Romani, who helps Link fight off an alien invasion, to name just a few.
For male characters though, it’s a different story. Aside from Rauru, the last remaining unconfirmed male Sage from Ocarina of Time, the most likely inclusion would be Tingle, hardly someone qualified to take on an enemy army. There are some minor characters that would make competent fighters, like Renado from Twilight Princess and Orca from The Wind Waker, but they are fairly obscure. Most of the memorable male characters in Zelda games would be gimmick characters in Hyrule Warriors. I’d love to able to play as the Happy Mask Salesman, Kafei, the Postman, Biggoron, Error, or Malo, but it would be more for laughs than for the characters’ strengths.
Yes, it’s true. Of all the known playable characters in Hyrule Warriors, most of them are women. Maybe that’s by design and Nintendo is trying to show they’re more progressive than their counterparts in the industry. Maybe it’s just a coincidence that the characters revealed so far are mostly female. They could also be making these reveals strategically around other possible news within the Zelda franchise—you know, like a certain remake being announced.
Oh, don’t mind me.
Whatever the case, the developers have stated that about half the cast would be female. Half. Not all, not most, half. While the reveals up to this point have been unbalanced, it will even out. The Dynasty Warriors series is notorious for having a large amount of playable characters, so I think it’s safe to say we’ll have a lot more announcements to look forward to.
One of the things that make Zelda games so great is the depth of their characters, and most of the great ones happen to be female. As such, it is not only unsurprising, but rather expected that so many female characters represent the franchise in a crossover game. When looking at who’s been announced already, the ratio is a bit skewed, but that’s no reason to go complaining all over the Internet about it. Stay patient and it will even out soon enough. There’s no need to get upset because characters you want to see haven’t been announced yet. And if you’re angry just because there are women in your video game, then stop it. You’re only making yourself look foolish.
Koei Tecmo have released the first screenshots of Sheik, Princess Ruto and Darunia, who were all recently revealed as playable characters in Hyrule Warriors. Take a look at the screenshots of the three characters below, from the games website.

source: SiliconeraKoei Tecmo previously revealed that Hyrule Warriors will include additional DLC costumes depending on which version of the game you buy in Japan. Today, they revealed a few more of these outfits on the game’s official website.
As previously reported, the standard, Premium and Treasure Box versions of Hyrule Warriors all come with a “Courage” costume set. This set contains three costumes for Link—one from Twilight Princess, one from Skyward Sword and one from Ocarina of Time. It looks as though Link’s character model changes slightly with each.
Additionally, we also have the full list of costumes that will be exclusive to both the Premium and Treasure Box versions of the game. These two versions will contain the “Wisdom” costume set for Zelda. Once again, this includes her outfits from Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time.
The final costume set, which is the “Power” set, will be exclusive to the Treasure Box version of the game, and hasn’t been revealed yet. Theoretically, this should pertain to Ganondorf, although he hasn’t been revealed as a playable character in the game yet.
Hyrule Warriors will be released in Japan on August 14th.

Nintendo invited Siliconera to play a new build of Hyrule Warriors that had Darunia as a playable character. Darunia is the Big Boss of the Gorons in The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time and Links bro. Looking at Darunias size you might expect him to be a big bruiser slow, but powerful.
Surprisingly, Darunia is about the same speed as Link. His attacks appear to have more impact on screen, but since most enemies fall after a few hits its unclear how much more damage Darunia does. Darunia has a speedy rolling attack where he bowls enemies up. If you keep mashing the attack button Darunia will continue to roll and scoop up more enemies. He also has a giant hammer with a wide swing, quite useful for crowd control. His special move, an over the head slam, is easy to combo into if you use the rolling move.
Darunia along with Link and Impa were in the Eldin Volcano which was full of baby Stalfos. Just like the Dynasty Warriors games, regular enemies pose little to no threat in Hyrule Warriors. The goal is to knock out the leader, a larger Stalfos classified as a Keep Guard or a Lizalfos. After a leader falls, morale for the Hyrulian Army rises and the small fry enemies just wander around. Most of the time, I chose to avoid the remaining enemies and get on with the mission rather than clear out zone after zone.
Darunia had bombs equipped, which could be used to open a secret path in the level. A Nintendo represented pointed out the path out to me. It wasnt obvious like when you see a cracked rock in a Zelda game. The path was obscured by a wall which looked like any other wall inside the volcano. Breaking it down made it easier to roll to the next checkpoint.
The main goal in this level was escorting Bombchus, robot bombs that look kind of like mice, to stone spires. Bombchus automatically moved to their destination, but would stop if they ran into a wave of enemies. Thats Darunias cue to clear out the enemy leaders so the Bombchus continue driving towards their destination. After bringing one Bombchu to the right spot Hyrule Warriors played the classic Legend of Zelda puzzle solving chine and the Bombchu detonated. Mission complete, the screen said, but the level wasnt over yet.
I ran to another area and fought a Poe, a ghost-like enemy from Ocarina of Time. The Poe had an ability to teleport out of harms way, but was never really a threat either. I mashed out a combo and used a special move at the end to take the Poe out. Then two more Bombchus showed up close to the beginning of the level. I backtracked and escorted those Bombchus to the stone spires. Hyrule Warriors upped the difficulty here by throwing in Wizzro, a one-eyed sorcerer enemy made for Hyrule Warriors.
Wizzro throw a spread of purple orbs that seemed harder to dodge due to Darunias size and a concentrated beam of dark energy, the only attack that did serious damage in the demo. Still, Wizzro was no match for Darunia and a full focus meter. The focus meter recharges when you find magic jars scattered in a level. When you use your focus meter, your attack power goes up and Darunia gets super armor since he cant be hit stunned by enemies. Focus also changes your special attack into a more powerful move, which took out over half of Wizzros life. After that a couple more rolling combos and Wizzro was toast.
I escorted the last Bombchu in place and walked towards the exit. Darunia did a little dance to celebrate when Sheik (called ??? at first) showed up and talked about going to Faron Woods.
Other Hyrule Warriors notes:
- Darunia has a treasure chest animation where he peeks inside and holds the item towards the sky just like Link, except Darunia is bigger than the chest.
- Weapons like the bombs and boomerang can be powered up by picking up an item drop. The powered up boomerang is the Gale Boomerang. Throwing this will knock out smaller enemies. The regular boomerang just stuns enemies and is practically useless against crowds. Its best used to stun leaders.
- The bow fires a single arrow that does a small amount of damage. It is possible to kill a leader by sniping, I managed to defeat a Poe slowly, but surely this way.
- The powered up bow is the Light Bow and it shoots five arrows in a spread.
- This build wont be playable at Comic-Con, but attendees will be able to try Midna from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess later today.
