They're just refusing to play Boras' game like they did two years ago with Teixeira. Honestly can't see another team going that high, everybody else either has 3rd filled or isn't a spender. There's no reason to bid against themselves.

Never underestimate Scortt Boras' power over Dave Dombrowski. We've been a literal dumping ground of his clients for the past few years, although in most cases they've pretty much all been positive. Still though I dont want Beltre and his unmotivated ass anywhere near the olde English D.

Oakland already had the best pitching in the AL last year. Offense was their problem, and so far this offseason they've added Josh Willingham, David DeJesus, and Hideki Matsui. By contrast, the Angels and Rangers have done virtually nothing to address their weaknesses.

Lowest ERA+, fewest runs and earned runs allowed, middle of the pack in strikeouts but kept walks down (Minny walked the fewest with 383, yowza). It would appear you're pretty right.

In all honesty, I think Oakland will be a more legitimate favorite than what Seattle was. They became the trendy media picks because of two acquisitions despite the rest of their team being pretty terrible. Oakland's pitching is already very legitimate.

That said, who the hell knows, all we're doing is predicting.
